    You can download a new version of this track or buy my complete solo album "Axe-Files" here: www.cdbaby.com/...
    or here:
    itunes.apple.co...
    - plus on several other digital music download sites.
    This is my special multi-style medley version of "Canon Rock". It's in five different parts: Classical, rock, jazz, country and fast rock.. All guitar and bass parts were played, recorded and mixed in Cubase SX (the drum parts were made with EZ drummer), and the video is filmed afterwards with me playing to the recorded track so I might have hit the odd wrong notes if you watch closely.. Also, picture and sound may not be perfectly synchronized, hope it's not too annoying.
    The piece itself is originally based on Johann Pachelbels "Canon in D" from around 1700, but especially the rock parts of my version are similar to Jerry C's famous "Canon Rock" version.
    Watching some of the hundreds of different versions of "Canon Rock" on RUclips (some good and some not so good..) inspired me to do my own version, but with a little twist to it. I didn't want to be just another Jerry C "copycat". Instruments used: Yamaha APX-5NA nylon-string, Burns Brian May signature, Eastwood Savannah semi-hollow, Eastone Banjo, Fender "Nashville B-bender" Telecaster, Fender Jaguar Baritone Custom and Ibanez "Jazzbass" (for the bass parts).
    Pedals and stuff; V-stack BHM guitar preamp pedal, Boss PS-5 Harmonizer (for the harmonized melody parts), Boss DD-6 Delay (most notably on 2:58-3:07, where I use it for the "Albert Lee" echo effect), Boss RV-5 Reverb, Behringer CS100 compressor plus some effects, EQ etc. added in Cubase SX.
    Tabs/backing track:

    Thanks for over 400000 views so far! All your views and nice comments has inspired me to finally make my first solo album, which is now available on cdbaby, iTunes and various other digital music download sites. (It will also become available as physical cd hopefully soon). The album is called Axe-Files and includes 9 of my own compositions, plus new versions of Canon Rock with a Twist, and Toccata and Fugue in D minor.

      You know, I first discovered this video when I was 14. It's one of the oldest videos that I keep coming back to over the years. I'm now 29. 15 years have past and I don't feel any differently about this video. Everytime I return to it, it's an absolute delight. I still remember watching this as a kid and being absolutely mesmerised by the tapping at the end 😂. This was a massive influence on me as a kid and is one of the reasons I started playing instruments. I hope you're doing well all these years later and thank you so much for this video. Don't ever delete it 🙂

      @@mikeyrobinson1509@mikeyrobinson1509 Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! Yes, I'm doing well, I'm not very active on youtube etc. these days, but I play all the time; lots of different stuff.
      It's so cool that people still comment on this video, and some have asked me to do a new version, but I don't think so.. I will never be able to recreate the magic again.😉 (And I won't delete it) ❤

    @121wietse Yes, I am! Do you think I would spend all this time and energy through over 30 years of playing if I didn't enjoy it? I just doesn't show very good when I play, especially when I'm playing difficult stuff (but I'm smiling inside)..

    @rednebb  13 лет назад

    @choicemc I'm sorry you think that. I just wonder; are you saying this because of my rather expressionless face that so many have commented, or are there other reasons? Not all guitarists twist and turn and make a lot of facial expressions when they play, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are emotionless. After all, what's important when it comes to the music, is what you hear, not what you see. I guess this maybe isn't the best musical piece to show a lot of emotions either..

  • @rednebb
    @rednebb  13 лет назад

    @dodo4hire Sorry you didn't like it. I don't consider myself a shredder at all, but sometimes I play fast if it's called for, although I'm no Shawn Lane or anything.. My aim here was not to play as fast as possible, but to create different variations over the original theme, using melodic motifs, sequences and arpeggios following the chord changes, in the classical tradition. Some might regard this as stereotypical, but actually that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing..

  • @rednebb
    @rednebb  11 лет назад

    I'm sorry, but I don't get your sense of humour (if that's what it is..?). It's ok if you don't like the video, but in that case you could try to be factual instead of just writing insulting or stupid comments.. To your benefit, I understand that you are a Knopfler/Dire Straits fan like me.. (I actually play in a Dire Straits tribute band)

  • @rednebb
    @rednebb  13 лет назад

    @7234333 Thanks! Some musicians (especially guitarists..) try to enhance the musical expression with various body and/or face "gymnastics", others, like me, just rely on expressing it all in the music and the playing itself.. (Still, you can see me making some weird uncontrolled grimaces a couple of times.. ;-)

  • @rednebb
    @rednebb  13 лет назад

    @dodo4hire Ok, I'm not sure what you mean by broken arpeggios, but actually I use a lot of arpeggios and tapping (maybe not "active" enough for you, though..? ;-) But you're entitled to your opinion, of course. Thanks for watching and commenting anyway :-)

  • @rednebb
    @rednebb  14 лет назад

    @YaKuza0NTSD Thanks! Are you referring to josenildochaves' comment about the Red Special? Well, I've had many similar questions about that guitar, so I guess it's a fairly unknown guitar for those who are not very familiar with Brian May and Queen..

    By the way, your Tocatta part 2 video is unbelievable, I have made a single electric guitar arrangement of that piece and I stopped at about 4 mins of the song it was impossible to keep going. I agree 100%! I think it is SO stupid to watch guitarists in a slow part of the song bent,leaning back,face so scrunched it looks like they are constipated,or passing a kidney boulder.Does it make them sound better or look cooler?NO!!There have been several standup comedians to point this out.Example,go look at some of the vids for nevadamusic.Alex is an awesome player,but sometimes the contortions are very unnecessary and just plain silly.There's my 2cents. rednebb,Still Fantastic!

    Thanks! Being a great Brian May/Queen fan, I love the guitar of course, but it's not for everything or everyone. It was kind of a coincidence that I decided using it for this video, otherwise I mostly use it for Queen/May stuff (obviously..) I have a lot of guitars, and this is probably not the one I bring along to a regular (non-Queen) gig. The neck is quite large and heavy and not the easiest to play. I think it sounds great, but not for everything, it won't sound like a strat for instance..

    To have that amount of finger accuracy you are either a reborn Robert Johnson, or you did indeed sell your soul to the devil.
    Amazing talent!

    Great variety. Would love to have heard steel guitar in a segment. Reminds me of my favorite version which is spliced version of people from all over the world one piece at a time.

    @rednebb I wish you lived in california. learning guitar from you would be awesome. buckethead trained down the street from my house.. but I honestly feel you are that damn good.
