I talked about this with my 95 year old grandpa a few weeks ago. According to his experience, the best time of your life is from your 40s to your 60s. When you're younger, you're still dealing with stuff like building a career and starting a family. And when you're older, age starts to catch up with you. But think about how life is when you're between 40 and 60. You made it. You have lots of experience in your job and reached the position you wanted. You have a wife and kids. You have a stable social life with friends that you've known for decades. On the other hand, you are not yet old. You can stil run a marathon. You might not win it, but you can surely cross the finish line.
@adammasterx5854 That’s sad to hear; may he rest in peace. Yes, mine is still quite active, as far as you can say that for a 95 year old guy. We’ve been at his house for Christmas Eve yesterday. He has a bit of trouble with walking etc., but I think he will celebrate his 100th birthday.
I believe that life is full of peaks and valleys, but that when you zoom out, all of life can be a continuous climb towards betterment, understanding, and growth. Through the experiences of being young and looking forward, to then growing old and looking back. It’s all part of the journey we each get to embark on. I hope that you all are learning and growing, wherever you are, upon your own mountain.
As a 47 year old, I leant to see things this way: I cannot be better than a 20 year old peak version of me, but since at my 20s I never reached my peak, I can be better than the 20 year old man I used to be. It’s not impossible. It’s just harder. If you have 1 year running 15 minutes a day at your 50s, you’re probably be better at running than 90% of people of any generation, because most people don’t run.
I’m 42 now and I can say physically my peak was in my early 30’s and sustained till about 36, and I have noticed a steady decline since then. As for mentally, I think I’m at my peak now. I am in school for my masters and having the interest in learning and having a thirst for knowledge makes it so much easier.
What I *LOVE* about getting old that you get calmer and wiser over time ( usally). I wouldn't change any young body over this seriously. I can't believe how naive, dumb and triggerhappy I was when I was younger.Sure, I still get mad etc. but I can put things into relation and overall don't make a fuss about things I can't change whatsoever and are not dangerous to people I like or myself. [ The "problem" is, I knew this when I was young already but only can "live it" with enough lfie experience so its really a thing of patiente rather than self improvement] Also its important to acknowledge that personal peaks are more important than statistical median depicted in this video, I was pretty unfit in my late 20s but got ripped in my late 30s so my personal peak was way later.
I also peaked physically at 23. I broke my shoulder that year and have never been the same. Still in great shape, but pain and fear of injury has kept me from ever pushing myself again.
Brother I've had hip surgery, shoulder surgery, knee surgery, and another knee surgery coming up all before the age of 31. After each surgery I came back and improved in some area. Don't let fear hold you back. Just be smarter with your training.
As a powerlifter nearing my end of 20s I was worried my squats, deadlifts and bench was peaked and now it'll only get worse. Thank you for letting me know I got atleast 7+ more years of peaking.
Started competing in Ironman races at 40. Did my PB at 48. Last race at 58. Still fit today. 'Peak' is determined by work ethic and goal setting. Some never peak because they never tri.
i'm 40. i don't workout and i have a desk job. i'm 5'7, 140lbs. yesterday i threw a fastball 63mph. i've set a goal to throw 70mph by this time next year
I was stronger in the gym at 30 at a lighter bodyweight than I was at 28 at my biggest. Now at 31, I'm at my current ever peak in strength and continue to rise
Your legs go first, so any sport that involves running you'll peak in your 20's, but after your legs slow down your upper body gets much stronger and faster. That's why the peak for Football is 25 but for boxing it's 30-40, in my opinion.
This is why I always thought physicists are happier as people than world class athletes or movie stars. It might sound good on the surface but you peak so early in life. Whereas most nobel prize laureates are in their 70s. You have so much more to look forward to as your work bears fruit much later on in life.
@alexshi wrong most Nobel Laurettes are for mundane things like peace prize and useless to science 😂 nor has any mental gift to accomplish. Also Nobel prize winners don't peak and get award later in life. Some are young and got it while they were young and actually peaked earlier later on retiring or do not output anything thereafter their fame peaked to accomplish other prizes or recognition in their older years of life. Albert Eistein was in his 40s when he got nobel prize. Hardly old at all. Marie Curie received hers when she was 35 yrs old. Neil Bohr received his at young age of 20s.
"I loved the idea of your channel! The animation style is similar to Fern’s, but you’ve come up with fresh content ideas that make it stand out. I think it has great potential to go viral!"
I’m 42 and I find it amusing how this suggest some mental peak at twenties. The way I remember it, we were pretty much emotionally unstable in twentysomethings. All your friends are kinda jerks and you drink too much alcohol. 30’s were more stable but more depressed and competing with your peers. Life truly starts at 40’s, and 100% of my friends in their 40’s and 50’s agree. Everything just gets easier, you’re smarter than ever before, and people of your age become genuinely nicer 😊
In your early 20s, your knowledge is limited and you really have no idea how life works. I knew how to keep jerks and drugs out of the picture thanks to listening to older generations, though. As I am in my late 20s, I see improvements but I will probably think the same later on about this time. At the same time, I think my ability to learn was a lot better in my late teens than later on.
I guess it depends. I’ve known so many older adults who say their teens and early 20’s were the most fun times in their lives. They had little to no responsibilities, no kids to take care of , work is much easier since it’s most likely just some part time job instead of working 50-60 hours a week like they do now. Also a lot of them also either let themselves go after their 20’s , or they never work out to begin with and their bad habits catch up to them , which them being unfit physically could also have a negative effect mentally as well. Ultimately it depends on how well someone lived their 20’s , as well as weather the person continued to improve in terms of quality of life after their 20’s .
People peak in their 20s..whether mentally or physically. Not drinking too much anymore is not a sign of maturity...your aging body just can't handle the late night binges anymore..so you drink less. That doesn't make you more mature...you simply have no choice. It's like saying an elderly is more mature because they sleep early and don't do physical labor. It's not maturity, they just can't anymore.
@@niphotwala188 20’s is physical peak, that much is true. Well, the potential anyway, some people are in bad shape and obese in their 20’s but run a marathion in their 40’s, but physical potential is in 20’s. And when it comes to alcohol, your body adjusts, tolerance builds up. Alcoholic in his 60’s can drink inexperienced guy in his 20’s under the table without even becoming heavily intoxicated. But mental peak, no. Definitely not. Twentysomething is a child 😄
There was no talk about emotional-intelligence peak in the video. Do a reaction speed test and confirm that, yes, some of our mental abilities peak in our 20s. I believe they mentioned that fluid intelligence peaked in 20s, and crystallised intelligence peaked 40+

At 32 my testosterone levels have never been this high 😮, it’s crazy. In my early 20s I was getting highs of 600-700 ng/dl but as soon as I crossed 30 I started getting levels of 1000-1200.
the good thing about being mediocre in your 20s is that you CAN become your best self in your 30s or 40s and feel better than you ever did in your 20s sure, if you worked hard until your 20s you would have peaked then but the past is in the past and you now have the chance to reach high
Very true. I used to play tennis when I was 9 - 14 years old, wasn't good at it at all, pressure was so high in the tennis club where my parents sent me to, didn't have good memories. I stopped playing for 20+ years. I'm 38 now and for the past 2 years, by accident I have rediscovered tennis in a different joyful light and now I'm playing the best tennis I've ever been in my life loving it so much and still improving my techniques after each time, can't wait for the next session!
Most scientists have their peak at mid30s to early 40s. In sports you are mostly old after 30-35+ but if you never was on peak in younger years you can still try that with 40+ or even 50+. My life is like a wave. I had my peak in my early 20s then was not very active to get another peak in my early 40s, then it gone down and now i am fighting back to the best myself i can be in my late 40s. I do not expect to be fit as in my 20s but there is one great thing about age. A lot things does not matter anymore and i def. think i am mentally more on peak as i could ever been in my 20s. Well, maybe i have a midlife crisis but that is also a good thing to change things until i feel better. One thing for sure, the older you get it is harder to stay healthy and fit and look good but if you can achieve it you really feel great and also stand more out of the crowd. There are so many healthy, fit and good looking young people but after 45+ a lot people let them go, eating still junk food, no sport, does not care how they look, drinking too much alcohol and maybe are smoking etc.....well, you pay the price. You could say it is never too late to change that but one day it is....... Oh and i bought my first airfryer just this year in summer....i like it :)
yeah same I am 37 and I am in the best shape of my life. Mentally I have greater depth perception, I get less excited about small things, am less likely to be fooled or scammed, and know who I really am and what I want. Its wisdom that only comes with age.
“Humans are built to move. We evolved under conditions that required daily intense physical activity, and even among individuals with lower physical potential, that hard-earned genotype is still ours today. The modern sedentary lifestyle leads to the inactivation of the genes related to physical performance, attributes that were once critical for survival and which are still critical for the correct, healthy expression of the genotype. The genes are still there, they just aren't doing anything because the body is not stressed enough to cause a physiological adaptation requiring their activation. The sedentary person's heart, lungs, muscles, bones, nerves and brain all operate far below the level at which they evolved to function, and at which they still function best.” - Mark Rippetoe
Guys, this is valid for the peak of the peak. For the regular person, you won't even notice that much different as long as you stay active and healthy. I've been working out in the gim for over 20 years now, and I'm still improving (i' m 37yo now). The only thing that does get worst it s hangovers... haha, but there is a twist, you now know how to avoid them. I m sure that for those who didn't gave up on going out and and get e few drinks, they now know how to drink and avoid hangovers at all. You become smarter as you age. Same thing for cognitive capacity. You might start to fill that memory ain't as sharp, but you find ways around it, and all things you've learned at life allows you to find mechanisms to learn things or worlk around them in a different way. I can only speak by myself now, let's see 10 years, 20 years , 30 years from now. I also have faith in new technology. Perhaps in a near future we might be able to improve in further as we age
I started learning Spanish in 2020 at the age of 20… now I’m 25 speak everyday and likewise get compliments every single day so I’m grateful to have picked it up well by now at a late age
My peak as an endurance cyclist was 34 years old. After that, my body really began to break down and energy levels began to decline. I’m 41 now and I got a month long hip injury from sleeping.
I am uncertain of my happiness as I am seeing so many perspectives at my age and being online with so many different people changes the way I think about my life and so far I think that I have freedom to do nothing to change or to just be happy with whatever and also to be sad, mad and confused, but what’s most important is that I am me and being alive is the greatest gift that I think we just don’t get enough of or even to just have a good time anyways I am 16 what do I know 😊

The positive thing that people's average nowadays is low. With a bit of consistent training and taking care of yourself, you can surpass even people at their prime age. I play different competitive sports for fun with different groups of friends. In terms of physical ability, I am almost always on top of everyone even though I'm 31 and many players are in their early twenties.
Going to turn 31 but I feel more stronger and fit today than I was in my 20s. Been working out since I was 19. I will say I’m not fast as I use to be but I’m in the best shape physically. So I think as long as you workout daily, don’t overdo it, eat clean, watch your health, I think you can maintain your peak for awhile. I feel like the late 40s, early 50s is when you will start to decline
Wallst operates on this timeline. Most traders are in 20s with some senior traders in 30s and MD’s tend to be 40. To stay past 50, u gotta make upper management.
Turned 40 several weeks ago and I realize paying close attention to physical well-being is crucial because the wheels can fall of real quick. Slowing the process of aging is high priority for me because health is wealth. I see some people roughly my age or even slightly younger aging rapidly because excercise and eating well is not part of their routine ...
Pretty cool video. Guess there are still things to look forward to. I'm in my 30's. My happiness was far higher when I was in my early teen years but far lower in my late 20's. Much of this has to do with comparing myself to where others my age are. My life feels more meaningful right now however due to being a father. I don't feel the body pains and as long as I keep blood sugar stable I don't feel tiredness, but I did give up alcohol due to the negative after affects that I never had in my 20's.
When I was 17 I suffered from chronical lower back pain as crazy as it seems. I'm 24 now and that pain is long gone, I eat healtier and work out at least twice a week. I am 39. Finished a 42 day water fast and I feel younger than in the last 10 years. Look better too. Overall I feel like I peaked and got another chance to go higher after this. Strange concept, I know. I just see myself beating even my 25-28 yearold self, probably even phisically.
For me age just kills the joints. Muscles you can hold for long. Stanina can always increase. But joints will fuck u up. I am 31. I am in my best shape when it comes to running 5 km for example. But after i try to set my pr i can't walk for a week because my joints are cooked. And it will only get worse. Of course i can stop running and do other sports but it just keeps coming back. And it never happened before 30 even if i run goggins style.
As someone who falls into the last category, I can’t help but find it hilarious that you grouped 40-99+ together. Then again, grouping everyone by decade before that feels pretty arbitrary too.

But think about how life is when you're between 40 and 60. You made it. You have lots of experience in your job and reached the position you wanted. You have a wife and kids. You have a stable social life with friends that you've known for decades. On the other hand, you are not yet old. You can stil run a marathon. You might not win it, but you can surely cross the finish line.
oh damn how's your grandpa? Is he still pretty physically/mentally active? Sadly mine passed away earlier this year (a month before his 90th birthday)
@@neptun2810 thanks a lot man, hope your grandpa lives for many more years to come.
wow❤
Yeah that applies to his generation. Most Gen Z/younger millennials will be lucky to own a home before 40.
Same here at 42, same here where my prime was between that age gap. Slowly declining in strength, size and body fat percentage.
2:37 I can vouch I'm dodging all those with my peak reflexes
What is this animation 💀0:20
Some never peak because they never tri.
i'm 40. i don't workout and i have a desk job. i'm 5'7, 140lbs. yesterday i threw a fastball 63mph. i've set a goal to throw 70mph by this time next year
I could throw that at 14 5,11 130 pounds Never 70mph tho get in the gym 140 pounds at 40 is victim weight
Go for it!
Your animations are incredible. One of the best, and positive videos I've seen this year!
I was stronger in the gym at 30 at a lighter bodyweight than I was at 28 at my biggest. Now at 31, I'm at my current ever peak in strength and continue to rise
Damn would not have expected to be among your oldest viewers at 28, big respect to all the 18 year olds watching this channel
It's probably just younger people being more likely to see/find the poll as they scroll
Watching a 10 minute youtube video is deserving of respect now?
11 year old here, I like his videos and I am subscribed
@@Aemmeroli1997lol I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks all these "respect" comments are getting out of hand.
I'm 36, I sneezed and my arm tingled...I was like oh no, here it comes..my hearts giving out.
Wait is that what that means? I'm so cooked
As a 32 year old who can't seem to talk about his airfryer and running semi-marathons, this is histerical
Your legs go first, so any sport that involves running you'll peak in your 20's, but after your legs slow down your upper body gets much stronger and faster. That's why the peak for Football is 25 but for boxing it's 30-40, in my opinion.
not for muhammad ali
@@bobstevens9360 At 25 he was exiled for 3 years for refusing to fight an illegal war, so unfortunately we never got see Ali's prime :(
Ali did lose the dancing after the foreman fight.
Plenty of footwork in Boxing.
@nowhere529 Yeah but no sprinting :-)
This is why I always thought physicists are happier as people than world class athletes or movie stars. It might sound good on the surface but you peak so early in life. Whereas most nobel prize laureates are in their 70s. You have so much more to look forward to as your work bears fruit much later on in life.
Interesting analysis. It's easier for a physicist to be more wise and content than someone who's always lived beyond expectations.
WRONG. Most scientists actually peak from 20 to 30 y/o, regardless of later recognition/awards.
@@v1kt0u5Source?
Einstein discovered his e = mc^2 in his 30s not when he was old.
This is such an interesting topic! It really shows that different aspects of life peak at different times-there's no one-size-fits-all answer.
My eyes have DEFINITELY peaked before this moment 💀💀💀
I'm super happy I found an amazing channel created by a fellow Portuguese person. I'm also working on Data Science and ML field and it's incredible how someone is using their skills to educate people!
2:38 This was funny
George Foreman became the H.W champion at the old age of 45, he was mentally very calm and positive compared to his younger self.
At 32 my testosterone levels have never been this high 😮, it’s crazy. In my early 20s I was getting highs of 600-700 ng/dl but as soon as I crossed 30 I started getting levels of 1000-1200.
That's why baldness happens around that time
@ Yeah I noticed that with most of my buddies. Thankfully there’s no baldness in my family, Dad is 68 and still has a full head of hair.
That's unusual. Please let the docs have a look at those elevated levels of testosterone.
@ yeah I did and the doctor said that it’s no cause for alarm ( other than the fact that my sex drive is through the roof)
@@dekev7503
Well then, good for you. 👍🥂
the good thing about being mediocre in your 20s is that you CAN become your best self in your 30s or 40s and feel better than you ever did in your 20s
sure, if you worked hard until your 20s you would have peaked then but the past is in the past and you now have the chance to reach high
@@NicHeuwGuitar good to hear, enjoy that shit
"I got a bit carried away". Nah not at all, i actually paused the video to analyze the plot thoroughly :D
I love your perspective on life, man! Cheers brother!
true 30 year old wont shut up about airfriers
Airfriers are a cheat code though lol
Doesn't even fry air..
Dude I am just 28 and started talking about them 2 years ago!
I'm turning 36 this year and I think I'm only just beginning to peak tbh. Both mentally and physically
As a fellow 36 I admire this outlook
yeah same I am 37 and I am in the best shape of my life.
The sedentary person's heart, lungs, muscles, bones, nerves and brain all operate far below the level at which they evolved to function, and at which they still function best.”
- Mark Rippetoe
Brilliant.
Specific Adaptation to Imposed Demands

I’m 41 now and I got a month long hip injury from sleeping.
you can't avoid the passage of time that will eventually get you past the peaks but you can probably sustain those peaks with good exercise and diet

That air fryer and marathon are so on point 😂

Pretty cool video. Guess there are still things to look forward to. I'm in my 30's. My happiness was far higher when I was in my early teen years but far lower in my late 20's. Much of this has to do with comparing myself to where others my age are. My life feels more meaningful right now however due to being a father. I don't feel the body pains and as long as I keep blood sugar stable I don't feel tiredness, but I did give up alcohol due to the negative after affects that I never had in my 20's.

That was a beautiful multi dimensional graph. How does the data look when you isolate for peak quantity of fucks given? I feel like this is a (mostly) independent variable that underpins many other aspects of performance in life and it is highly age dependent in my experience.

For me age just kills the joints. Muscles you can hold for long. Stanina can always increase. But joints will fuck u up. I am 31. I am in my best shape when it comes to running 5 km for example. As someone who falls into the last category, I can’t help but find it hilarious that you grouped 40-99+ together. Then again, grouping everyone by decade before that feels pretty arbitrary too.
