He inspired me to pursue my dream as a multimedia artist mostly on illustration (books, posters, comics) He is still working school and the last time me and my friends visited him was two years ago. (we plan to visit him again after the pandemic)

I like of how the special effects are so well integrated that you really believe them. It seems that special effects now a days just aren't believeable as they were in the late 90's/early 2000's.
That's because they're all really there. There's actually props to interact with. Compare the Lord of the Rings movies with the Hobbit movies for example. The Lord of the Rings movies have real props. Real things for the actors to touch and interact with. In The Hobbit, a lot of things are not actually there so it's awkward and fake. Both were made by the same people with several of the same actors. However, there is a huge gap in quality because of the CGI.
This movie was my childhood this movie literally taught me English when I first moved to the states. Seeing stuff like this after all this time is absolutely touching I love it so much.

I’m 32 and I still enjoy this movie. My 2 year old baby niece is in love with it she is glued to the screen. So she kinda got me back into it. I love this movie. It’s an instant classic and the actors are absolutely brilliant.
You know I was recently thinking weeks before this, that she would have made a much much better headmistress in the fifth movie. I feel like the first half of that movie should have been treated very differently.

And the CGI they did use was fantastic. I never would have guessed the cards flying around Matilda were computer animated. They still seem super real to me

I think I read that they put a bunch of rubber nails that don’t hurt when they touch you, so when the doors shut the “nails” feel like nothing. No clue where I got that but it’s probably out there somewhere.
It's really nostalgic to see how they explain how they do the floating chalk or pitcher with practical effects - today that's 100% done with computers; practical effects is a dead art.

The way all of them talk about the special effects and how it was done sounds like it was made in someone's garage, a home movie type. But in a positive way like you can see how Dani was so proud and close to his work and the actors and the staff.
Danny Devito seems like a genuinely kind guy and seems to really know how to communicate with child actors. All the children in the movie seemed to really enjoy themselves, even though the whole process can be overwhelming. Respect

And the CGI they did use was fantastic. I never would have guessed the cards flying around Matilda were computer animated. They still seem super real to me

You know the special effects are good when you don't even notice they had to use them
I honestly always just assumed it was magic when I was little and that sort of stuck 😂 this sort of thing works much better than the the fully cgi stuff nowadays I think

I think I read that they put a bunch of rubber nails that don’t hurt when they touch you, so when the doors shut the “nails” feel like nothing. No clue where I got that but it’s probably out there somewhere.

It's really nostalgic to see how they explain how they do the floating chalk or pitcher with practical effects - today that's 100% done with computers; practical effects is a dead art.
I love this book and movie! Pam Ferris looked so different from her character Miss Trunchbull. She's so elegant and lovely in real life! That was some movie magic!

The way all of them talk about the special effects and how it was done sounds like it was made in someone's garage, a home movie type. But in a positive way like you can see how Dani was so proud and close to his work and the actors and the staff.
Danny Devito seems like a genuinely kind guy and seems to really know how to communicate with child actors. All the children in the movie seemed to really enjoy themselves, even though the whole process can be overwhelming. Respect

Cheaper. Thats why they did it that way back then, too. It was cheaper and more realistic than CGI was at the time.
