levi's decision didn't have much to do with armin, it was all between him and erwin this episode was the conclusion to erwin's character arc. his whole life was about realizing his goal and every action he took was for that sole purpose, so faced with that dire situation during ep 16 and the creeping realization that he won't be able to reach the basement after all he did? that caused him to break character and talk in that childish way back then; he still wanted to go to the basement even though everything was about to be leveled by the beast. according to isayama, that was the moment erwin was forced to abandon his childish dream and step up to his role as the commander of the scouts, however he still needed a little push, and his dialogue with levi was in search of that push. levi caught on to that, and answered "I'm making the choice. abandon your dream and die". later in this episode when levi was about to use the injection on erwin, he smacked his hand away as he was hallucinating about being a kid in his dad's class asking the same question that he'd invested his whole life in search of an answer to. levi realized that erwin wasn't really over his dream, which then made him remember kenny's words about people being drunk on their dreams to keep pushing forward, thus allowing him to reach the obvious conclusion; it'd be insulting to bring erwin back after he finally managed to muster the courage and reach the resolve to abandon his dream. it was time to let him rest
12:03 I thought this too watching it a 2nd time. Not only does Hange's restraining hand turn into a hug, but Mikasa's resistance turns into what looks a lot more like her comforting Hange for the pain she's endured losing her closest friends. Something super underrated about AOT is how the characters are so sweet and loving towards each other in very subtle ways. Some of the best moments I can remember: * Armin holding Eren's hand and crying in Season 1 when he realizes his friend is back, Eren hugging him and doing the same in 3x19. * Mikasa and Hange comforting each other despite being at odds this episode. * Levi giving Petra's patch to one of the soldiers in Season 1 and lying and telling him it was their friend, knowing the soldier needed the comfort more. * Grisha calling Mikasa his daughter with literally zero emphasis on it whatsoever. He never even calls her adopted or anything, she just needed a family so he gave one to her and then she was his daughter.

Eren was willing to risk his life for Armin back during episode 5 of S1. And now Armin returned the favor. And we see how much it's broken Eren. He barely speaks above a whisper and he pleads with Levi to bring Armin back. Because Armin was the one who gave him his dreams of freedom. Armin was the one who told him about the outside world. About the sea. Moblit is very underrated. And he went out protecting Hange until the end. And the last thing Hange saw with her other eye was him burning away to save her. R.I.P. Moblit. On a side note, I definitely respect Bertolt for what he believed in and that awesome OST he brought. R.I.P. Bert. You'll always be the Colossal in my heart. Our original poster boy who finally found his confidence near the end. Also, it's commonly theorized that the reason he calls out for everyone in the end is that when he wakes up, he's still pretty out of it(possible due to blood loss). Then he remembers the situation he's in and calls out for Annie and Reiner. And as for Floch, he may sound annoying, but Erwin coming up with that plan was the only reason the Beast wasn't able to get over the wall and obliterate the rest of the scouts with his throwing ability. He provided them the opportunity for victory while being at a disadvantage(due to Monke Man being skilled at long range fights due to his lanky arms). Erwin overthrew the Government and made the plans that allowed everyone to get to this point. Erwin sacrificed his arm to save Eren. Floch doesn't really know Armin, so saving a random scout with potential over a commander with known ability seems crazy to him. But also, carrying Erwin over an entire field just to be told you did that for nothing has to feel really crappy. And so, Floch is the lone survivor of that charge.
It is actually possible to stay alive for up to a couple of days after being burnt alive but you'll die nonetheless It's just delayed death at that point
@@thewoo7269 when he fell it looked like he was floating because of all the steam and hot air. It wasn’t like he just plummeted and hit the ground hard.
Amazing writing, Erwin always sacrificed his troops to get closer to his goal only too end up sacrificing himself in the end right before he got it. Erwin’s arc was complete, his goal was to find the truth(the basement). Armin had further ambitions.
I'd prefer Armin's death was here, it was a legendary death, but this episode is so beautiful and seeing Eren and Mikasa's suffering, that's the most emotional ever for me. And the final scene with Armin being reborn with that song and his friends in joy tears, is totally beautiful. There's another thing, the truth is right there, Erwin could keep going after killing all those people for his own egoistic dream? Maybe he would not want to fight anymore. But we'll never know.

fun fact: isayama (the author) is actually a fan of the show Breaking Bad.
