  • Until now I've been limited by breadboards and wires with my electronics projects. I finally committed to learning how to create my own custom printed circuit boards (PCBs). This video chronicles the journey of learning how to create my first PCB. I can't wait to start putting my own PCBs in upcoming projects. If any of you are interested in a more in-depth tutorial on PCB creation please let me know!
Thanks to our friends at PCB for sponsoring this video. Please use my referral link to order your own custom PCB! pcbway.com/g/A1nO6I

It's funny how you graduated from breadboards straight to PCBs instead of doing prototype boards first (which are PCBs that have a grid of holes in them and various layouts of copper - either as strips or maybe just copper pads around the holes - that one can use to make compact-ish circuits like those on custom PCBs.
Just a few pointers though, try to learn to do copper planes. You'll need at least a ground plane for more complex ciruits, as it helps to reduce noise/EMI. You'll also want to increase the thickness of your power carrying traces.
Challenge yourself with routing the traces. The simple AND gate circuit can be routed all on one side. Later if you're doing high speed signal lines like USB you'll need to adhere to certain design rules (like the traces need to be parallel on the same side of the board, same length etc) so it helps to challenge your design skills before hand and not just settle for the minimum viable.

Hey thanks so much for the advice!! I really want to continue to build on this skill. 🎉

@@LukasDeem Well a good next challenge would probably be to design a PCB that interfaces with one of your favorite microcontroller boards and contains a power supply (battery terminal with voltage regulator) and maybe a motor driver IC, and/or terminals for servos.
Such a PCB will def. have to make use of a large Ground plane, and use decoupling capacitors to filter out motor noise.

@@J0ermungand hey I was totally thinking the same thing about getting a microcontroller integrated into one of my designs! I'm going to indeed to do some research on filtering out motor noise and such 😅😅

      @@LukasDeem Excellent.
I mean, it's the logical choice considering the projects you've been doing
      😉
I'm curious to see how you'll do on this project (I assume it's gonna be another video?).

@@J0ermungand haha yes of course! My next video may or may not be about building a Lego train track around the top of my house but then after that yes totally 🤣🤣
