But he counts as local
@@nik_uttam Yes. I initially thought he was implying that the USA was developing these players. After rewatching I realised he said players are relocating to the USA. I missed this on first watch.

@@nik_uttamcould you please do a segment with them which includes games like a cricket version of the football cap that's famous nowadays and other games as well. Would be really fun to see, And Loving your conversations !
I started following cricket when I was 16-17. I would say cricket is the most interesting sport, requiring a lot of equipment, rules, and terminology. Once someone really follows cricket, they will find it to be the most fascinating and interesting game. There are many moments where even a single action can impact the whole game. Every ball bowled is interesting for the audience, as they wonder what will happen: will the ball swing or not, will it turn or not, will the bowler bowl a no-ball, will the batsman hit a six or a four, will there be a stumping, a run-out, a bowled-out, or an LBW decision? I mostly watch cricket and football but i would say cricket is most interesting game.
Cricket is difficult game
Very difficult boi
Is depend on how you understand this game as a indian i follow the cricket like a 6 year not difficult to me
Cricket is more difficult than Baseball. As USA is the birth place of Baseball americans can't shift to Cricket easily on the one hand. On the other hand, Cricket is harder than Baseball.
Cricket is certainly difficult and has more rules than baseball. But once you understand it I can bet it's very interesting.
Are you talking about Test Cricket
I live in Chicago and we play in the Midwest cricket conference league. We need a local Chicago team in the league. There is a stadium being built in oswego IL. However in my league atm the outfields of these local grounds are so horrible, cement stripe type pitch. I think for the game to evolve it needs to improve the local grounds so the quality of the competition to improve. As long as the MLC continues on its path the die hard cricket watchers will spread the work at functions, work etc to try and pull in outside people.
Fantastic insight from you all thank you!
Thank you, Charlotte! Appreciate the support!
@@cricketdistrictnetwork I hope that in the future, Major League Cricket makes a stronger effort to broadcast many, many more of its matches on networks not called Willow.
Exclusively keeping MLC on Willow significantly RESTRICTS and LIMITS Cricket's exposure to the broader American society. If MLC is serious about expanding, that will need to change.
If you guys ever have Tom Dunmore, the head of MLC's Marketing, on your show, re-emphasize the above points to him.
Cricket is the most entertaining interesting and unique sport in the world ❤
lol no - cricket fan here
@@TheTrippleTKA yeah
@@TheTrippleTKAlol yes cricket fan here
Brotha it's pretty boring ngl.
It might be possible to determine which sport is the most unique. What I think you mean by saying it's the most interesting and entertaining is that you like it.
Of all the sports that I like, it seems more understandable that people tend to like cricket the least. In a similar way, most people seem to prefer films to books.
I hope that Major League Cricket understands that it cannot keep MLC solely on Willow.
Keeping MLC on Willow significantly limits and restricts Cricket's exposure to greater American society. This will need to be addressed in the future.
@cricketdistrictnetwork, if you ever have anyone from MLC on your show, mention that to them.
Hopefully they have a lot more matches be on the big TV networks this season and hopefully in season 3 they properly partner with a big network to broadcast every match because I agree with you that you can't grow that much if the league is limited to one small service.
Let's make Cricket 🏏 bigger!
Cheers guys, interesting chat.
Grown up with cricket and watched a lot of baseball. One of the reasons I like the two is the opposite ways that they work. Everything in the batters favour in cricket, everything in the fielding sides favour in baseball.
Watching baseball expecting home runs all the time is like watching cricket expecting wickets all the time. Sixes and home runs are not equivalent to each other, even though the visual effect is the same.
The equivalent to lots of sixes in cricket is probably lots of strike outs in baseball. After all, runs are common in cricket, outs are uncommon, in baseball it's the other way round. The pitcher is the one to watch in watch in baseball in the same way that the focus tends to be on the batter in cricket, at least in T20.
I think the MLC is great for the growth of cricket if it's done the right but if last year is anything to go by it's headed in a great direction! Hopefully the World Cup being played right before it brings more eyes to it as well. Great info as always fellas
My only concern is not something to do with MLC but rather with USA Cricket. I think the people running MLC are competent and they know what their long term goals are which is great but the people running USA Cricket aren't that way and I don't think they're thinking about the long term. There's only so much MLC could do to grow the sport because the best way to grow the sport would be for young Americans to see their home team do well in big tournaments and USA Cricket is not doing anything to make that possible in the future.
@@rangergaming8316 On paper, USA Cricket has a vision for the future, including full ICC membership within the next 5 years. But I agree with you that we should not expect miracles from them.
It'll probably be done wrong though. MLC has to understand how to connect with Americans and you don't just do that through free merch giveouts.
@@cricketexplained8526 I do think their players are doing their job well and I'm quite impressed by their performances. They have brilliant players but the only way they get full membership by 2030 is if MLC takes off and the local talent just see massive improvement and they get insane amounts of revenue from that. I downloaded their roadmap PDF a few years ago and I'm still optimistic they can get it done in a decade or so but USA Cricket might be the biggest hindrance.
@@cricketexplained8526 I think MLC has been doing a good job at that. They're trying to educate the audience and also market more towards non traditional cricket audiences.
I remember seeing an interview with the people running MLC last year and they said that the first season they'd try to get a few locals but most of the marketing would be towards diasporas to help establish a fanbase that they can rely on while they start trying to attract a more broader base from season 2 onwards and I like that approach. It's a lot more sensible than just trying to get South Asian diasporas and thinking they'll make sure everything is fine forever.
I also do think that people who run the Super Kings franchise and such know how to attract a newer audience and they're also focused on that and they won't let MLC slip up as they stand to gain the most in revenue from MLC becoming massive.
If only MI NY had access to an ICC regulation pitch to build that fan base. (Looks meaningfully at Nassau county)
Why’s team called New York Mubai Indian

@@williamoshea6437 I agree the name is horrible but it's a franchise brand they did the same thing with South Africa's domestic league its MI Cape Town for some god awful reason.

I look forward to seeing the Americans get into cricket.
A little worried how much money might skew the game. Tradition/history is great but I think there would be a loss of talent if cricket does establish well over in the US and I can see it doing it more than football (not the NFL kind), as to a lot of people would love to live in the US and get paid like Premier League footballers. As they would have so much money to throw at cricket.
MLC will only be a two month long tournament at most and think about it from this perspective, if other countries like USA, Canada, Scotland, UAE etc. get to the level of the big full member nations then there'll be a ton of high quality players that get added to the overseas players pool for each tournament so even with a lot of tournaments happening there's no lack of high quality talent.
What you should be worried about is if the UAE gets its own large-scale T20 franchise league. They would blow everyone else off the table money-wise.
@@cricketexplained8526 they already do have their own league with the ILT20 and that concerns BBL and SA20 as the ILT20 takes place during the January window but it shouldn't affect MLC.
@@rangergaming8316 yeah and happy for the increase in numbers and thus top talent playing the game. I suppose my worry comes from Americans like Baseball and if there was a country that could get behind Test cricket, I think Americans could.
With their climate they could host tours all year round as well, spring/summer in the Northern states, autumn/winter in the Southern states.
So I worry how that might effect the county game if there was lucrative tours on available plus all the limited overs series just worried there will be a pinch point until there is enough numbers playing at the top level but I could also be just catastrophising, whilst I get used to the new normal. 😅
@@cricketexplained8526 UAE not so worried as I think they want it for the spectale and it will settle down and be like the IPL and the T20 Blast a disruption but not constant draw. Might even be handy if it allows more players to train and play in the traditional off season.
Look at their faces when he starts talking technical cricket terminology😂
They run this channel dude
Nice work guys!
I hope the stadium in new york stays up forever ❤️ 🏟
The first ever International Cricket Match was between the US and Canada in 1844, it was played at St.George's Cricket Ground in New York from 24th to 26th September. Now with the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup being played jointly in the United States and the West Indies(Caribbean) starting in June; with the first match on 2nd June is between the United States and Canada at the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas.
Would love it if it lead to more batting cages like they have in the US for baseball/softball opened here in UK for cricket.
Yeah, indoor practice facilities will be huge. I hope eventually they reach a point where people so desperately want to play cricket that they play it in their houses or on the streets as well. I think that's the speciality of cricket, you can play pretty much everywhere.
I hope cricket grows in America
Yah without indian players its not going to penatrate indian market
Yes it’s true. Because they can’t understand other sports and were waiting for cricket to come in the US for a long time
It needs to penetrate the American market
What’s the point of eveyone in the US still goes India, Pakistan WI ect
When u understand properly anything will be easy and interesting

Americans that don't know cricket are just gonna go "It's a baseball copy".
You obviously can't convince everyone to give the sport a try but not everyone is like that and there'll be people that are open to learning about the sport.
Cricket is older than football
@@createverse6 you dumb or something we're talking about cricket and baseball.👁️👄👁️
Eh, I think baseball fans are fully aware that the two are very different.
Nah most Americans that really love baseball would want to go see a game, if for nothing else other than the novelty of watching a different ball and stick game.

MLC doesn't have to compete directly with baseball and should find at least a sustainable following. Except for the NFL, every sport in the US is something of a niche sport, in the sense that a guy doesn't assume any other given guy watches the NBA, MLB, NHL, or the Premier League (poor MLS). T20 tournaments actually share one advantage the NFL has over all those competitions, being less than six months, and every match matters.
Kudos to Nikhil for coming to see grassroots cricket in the US too!
Yeah, every match matters in the MLC unlike in the NBA where you could have a very mediocre first 50 games and then make the playoffs with good performances in the last 32 games or in baseball where there's even more games.
Cricket in America will be good for US as well as Cricket in whole
I think.. If bcci have dare to take risk.. One of the season of IPL or introducing Champions league again can be hosted in USA. Atleast one phase of the season.. Most incredible cricketers playing together can increase the popularity.. Shorter format, franchise cricket will gain more revenue than ICC events
Hosting the IPL in the US is a horrible idea. Hosting CLT20 would be a good idea because it's actually an international competition and it could feature a team from the MLC.
Moving the IPL to a foreign country when it's not absolutely needed is stupid.
Watching from India.
Lux cozi 🤗
What about a joint USA, Canada and West Indies league
That'll never happen. The cricket calendar is already too packed. The only way they would come together is if the CLT20 is revived like it's been reported in which case I see CPL and MLC getting at least 1 team in the tournament.
@@rangergaming8316 That is exactly it. One team in the tournament would be fine.
Way too logistically difficult and expensive.
@@cricketexplained8526 yeah, the main issue would be figuring out which leagues should be included, how many total teams should be allowed to compete and how many teams does each league get?
I'm sure the IPL will get most likely 3, I don't even know if the PSL would be invited, BBL would probably get 2 teams and so would ECB but I don't know if they would choose teams from the Hundred or Blast. I think CPL gets one spot, same goes for SA20, MLC and ILT20 because all three leagues have IPL investors and they'd heavily push for it.
After that it becomes much more tricky as to whether Sri Lanka, Bangladesh or other full member nations get a spot.
@@cricketexplained8526 Obviously at present this would be in practical now but it may be something to aspire to.
There is the potential amongst the affluent and growing North American South Asian diaspora for a league that would tap into the heritage and the sentiment that comes with West Indies cricket. A weekend following your team to Barbados or Antigua would be attractive not least for West Indies cricket and tourism.
A team based in Florida, Texas, California, New York, Toronto and 5 West Indies teams could be attractive to a local and a worldwide audience
It's imperative to understand that raining sixes will not automatically be exciting to baseball-watching Americans. Baseball is *culturally* embedded, it's part of the fabric, soul and identity of the nation. Sixes are important to the marketing of cricket, but it *must* also identify and define itself in other ways.
I think things such as run outs and diving catches would do a lot more than baseball because cricket is a much more athletic sport. Seeing good fielding is just as exciting as big hitting in my opinion so I would market the sport like that as well because Americans are probably used to seeing people using gloves in baseball.
@@rangergaming8316 MLC/ICC should leave no stone unturned in packaging cricket as a whole to Americans.
@@cricketexplained8526 the only thing that's in their way is the obsession with India. I think MLC look past it as well which is good but I think the ICC is too obsessed with promoting everything around India like how everything regarding the T20 World Cup is about India vs Pakistan.
I think having other big nations such as Australia and England play in the US would've been better. But in terms of the top three things I would use to market cricket in the US, it would be:
1. Good fielding (run outs and catches)
2. Big hitting (sixes)
3. Fast paced.
@@rangergaming8316baseball requires more athletic skills than cricket though
You guys should come down to cplt20 and experience it..Trinidad especially..you would see fan base loyalty ..sea of red #tkr

I want cricket to grow in america, cause america being pop culture capital, Who knows some other countries might wanna play it more as well
I agree, whenever something becomes popular in the US it takes popular in many other countries as well especially in Europe.
@@rangergaming8316 don't forget south korea, japan who literally follow american trends like crazy
@@marathiboi96 yeah, I didn't mention them on purpose but you're right that they follow a lot of American trends. The thing with Japan is that they've got a really good team already, their openers set the world record for an opening partnership in T20I cricket recently with 258 unbeaten.
All they need is more attention so if cricket becomes popular in the US and that encourages people in Japan to take up the sport then it'll secure the Japanese team more funding and a bigger talent pool in the future which would be great.
@@marathiboi96cricket is the fastest growing sport in Japan and lof SAMO city is know as cricket capital
Imagine a world where people find cricket to be cooler than soccer, I would die for that thing to happen
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the big cricketers were coming to the U.S. just to enjoy the game, and not have as much pressure to perform as they would if they were playing in India, England or Australia.
We see this phenomena in Hockey all the time, with Canadian born players being more attracted to playing for US franchises, because hockey isn't as big in the US, in comparison to Canada which is crazy about the sport and with that comes media pressure, fanatical fanbases, and the added pressure to represent Canada as a whole.
Now most interesting sports in only on Cricket all over the world 🌍

Failed in those
That's why even people from Australia don't watch cricket
Despite Australia being so strong
ICC should reintroduce Champions league T20 so that T20 team of every league can participate.
ICC??😂
Players play for too many different teams
Going to be super difficult to extend past the diasporas. Especially without tv coverage that extends beyond the diasporas.
Hopefully this year they can get more games on big networks like CBS. Last year they got a handful of games on there and hopefully this year it'll be more and hopefully in the near future they'll get a long term deal with a big network to broadcast full seasons.
Other sports executives will try to squash the growth of cricket
They can't do it in the US when many IPL owners are also the team owners in the MLC. The BCCI can't get involved without getting the IPL owners mad.

Cricket in USA will not get popularity unless the sport get reached to non South Asian, Non European, and Non Caribbean Decendents. US national cricket team is nothing but South Asian cricket team. Besides, the leagues have the worst grounds ever in the history of cricket itself. They need to fix all these. No point of bringing MLC, If you can’t support your grassroots players.
