Why I Chose The Street Bob Over Other Harley-Davidson Softails

- Choosing the Street Bob over the other Softail models by Harley-Davidson wasn’t exactly an easy decision. But I think I made a good choice! All the other models have a lot to offer and are great bikes in their own respect. But I boiled down to personal style and flexibility to make my bike my own. Come along for the ride once again as I blah blah blah about some more crap about my bike!
Damn that turtle propably spent the whole day getting there and now he’s back where he started 😅
Lol!
I love my Sport Glide. It rides as if on rails and just loves to turn. You can't go wrong with the new Softails. The M8 is sweet.
Turtle: "It took me two fucking days to get that far and you put me back where I started!"
Anyone who helps animals is cool. Thank you on behalf of Mr Turtle 🐢
We'll never know if he really helps it.. Maybe the turtle belongs to the house on the other side of the street and now it will take two days to get back in there :)
Always put them on the side they were headed to, but hard to tell with this one.
Tried the Low rider st,Breakout and Street bob today ….so far the Street Bob is way ahead of the other two….got a demo on the Fat bob and sports glide in two weeks time before I decide which softail is getting a place in the stable…..the flick ability and the grunt on the 114 Street bob was something else
Thanks for the shout! Good points you had here. Would have been nice to see another Sport Glide rider out there! Still the street bob is a pretty bike and that color is 👌🏻
I’m so glad you are enjoying your HD! Be safe and enjoy life!!!!
Out of hundreds of review clips, I found this one by far the most informative and honest. Thanks mate. Great job.
Thank you for these videos. I am getting back into riding motorcycle at 58.
There is a bike for everyone. My FayBoy works for me.
There is a softail model for everyone. I love my slim👍😎👍
I really wish I could have test rode one. Everyone that has one loves it!
Thats the one I'm looking at too. Love that thing!
Hey you didn’t mention the Fat Bob or Fat Boy in the soft tail line up.
The downside of the 240mm tire is that it doesn't like to take turns. Salute ✌🏻😎
I bought the 2021 Softail Standard. Right amount of chrome and black. Added the V&H slip ons. No regrets. ❤️ it! Can’t stop looking at it.
Same
I bought my Softail standard for the reasons that you mentioned. I've customized it at a lower cost as well. Light, nimble and quick.
I just wish HDs had centerstands.
They come in handy for tire repair, replacement and belt alignment, etc.
Great video! Congrats on the bike!
Yes, helping the turtle was cool. You also have a very safe way of riding. Very responsible.
We are on opposite sides of taste as far as Harley's go but I really enjoyed the video and I love your Bob. Nice ride man!
Street Bob is a great bike. Glad you're happy with it. I was deciding between it and the low rider. The 3 gallon tank and spoke wheels were the deal killer for me. After 2 years I'm finally replacing the handlebars on my LR :D
That’s some scenery you got there man.
In the process of buying a Sport Glide and you're right it's a coin toss, what swung it for me in the end is the size of the fuel tank and the bags that I would have had to buy separately.
Nice vid and good choice. Looking forward to seeing how you build her out.
it’s funny, I have a black Sport Glide (which I love) and it was a coin toss for me between that and the Street Bob. It was the modularity of the Sport Glide that finally did it for me. Great video. Glad you love your Street Bob.
I test rode all the softails except the Fat Bob. I ended up getting a 2019 Sport Glide on Christmas Eve for the price of a base Slim. I couldn't pass it up. My dealership was trying to get rid of the 2019s, and had a Christmas discount.
You are right. The bike is awesome! Bigger bags than the Heritage, inverted front forks, cruise, and killer looks!
I just started doing RUclips. Subbed! Love your channel!
Thanks for the videos.
Tomorrow Is my HD street bob test drive. Nice...
I love the fat bob...
You made a good choice, I just got a 2018 Street Bob and I picked up an FXDR the same day lol. To answer your question no, not many FXDR accessories and upgrades that compliment the design and style (basically most people make it into a Breakout or something similar) I'm a sportbike guy and still have my CBR which is why the FXDR spoke to me.
I own a 2018 HD Street Bob FXBB and I love it. I did personalize it to my tastes. My major dislike is the anemic sounding horn. I wish it was a side mount horn so that I could easily upgrade. The small gas tank is a drawback but after 150 miles one should be getting off for a bio break and stretch your legs.
Some are wrong about bigger tire, unless you add weight a wider tire you are goin to have less traction
Loving the music, sounds like the Stray Cats
Awesome video! I own a 2007 Streetbob from San Jose Harley in California. It's vivid black with standard bars for comfort and almost stock with soft Michelin tires. Again, my first Harley after riding sport bikes for many years!
I have the exact same bike. I love it and have no plans to change a thing.
I test road nearly all the 2019 line up and I ended up buying a 2019 Street Bob (I got a video up of it on my channel). Its too bad you didn't get to test out the Slim because that was the closest toss up for me. The Slim handled perfectly even with the fatter tire. The thing with the slim though... it loses that ol' retro look once you change the handlebars or the tire. The reason I went with the Street Bob personally was the riding position, it gives it a responsiveness that you dont get with forward controls. I love mine, I can cruise easy, or ride it like I stole it. My only complaint is the size of the gas tank. That's it. But it does give you an excuse to stretch the legs now and then.
The tank can easily be replaced with another softail tank.
@@ProTuner06 yes, that's true, but I like the look. I wish there was a way they could have squeezed a little more capacity into this tank style, it's a killer look
You hit the nail on the head with all the models you named. I was on the Lowrider s train for some time and was over looking the Street Bob somehow. Great video 👍
Absolutely beautiful countryside roads. Whereabouts did you shoot that video?
Not to mention such an honest down to earth comparison of the Softail lineup.
Enjoyed it thoroughly!
Ride safe and keep 'em coming 👌
I did a comparison of my I dian Chief dark horse and fatboy S. Mostly riding style. You did a great detailed vid on even the upgrades you would have to do. 🙏
I wish you could Frankenstein a bike from the factory. I ended up with a Slim but I totally agree, I'm not a fan of the fat balloon tire. I wanted the softail standard look but just couldn't pull the trigger on a 3 gal tank.
I picked up new 22 streetbob fast back blue great deal,I also have 22 Honda rebel dct 1100..both are fun bikes to ride ..
One of my favorite rides between here and Naches. Old Naches highway north side of highway 12 is great as well. Started following you because of the Vulcan (had an '18); I went the other direction and traded my vulcan for a yamaha Mt09. That bike is a blast on the twisties and so much more comfortable than the Vulcan. Congratulations on the new ride and your channel, keep up the great content.
PSA : if you have to move a turtle,do it in the direction they’re heading 😁... I got the 2020 streetbob also, love it! Except for the placement of the foot controls
Only thing where he was heading was a main road!
@@GasWorksISO Anything beyond that?
I think it’s funny they call them mid controls. I think they’re pretty far forward but fit with the mini-apes. I’d prefer the lower profile California bars.
@@chrissmith7669 I hate the placement, constantly banging ankles when moving it with feet...I prefer forward controls, but expensive to switch out...
Through owning a streetbob my only gripe is the digital display, sometimes the sun makes it hard to read. Mind you it’s not often in U.K. so a minor gripe….
It is waterproof though! 😁
love those front running lights !
You reject the Slim because you don't like the fat front wheel. That fat tire is one of the stand out reasons I love that bike.
The fat front tire absorbs the bumps and make for a much nicer ride
Just bought one I’m adding the forward controls.
I have a twin cam 103 Fat Bob, thinkin about adding a twin cam Road King 2014-2016
Crome is awesome
I have a fxlr and now wish I got the street bob.
The seating position is just so far back.
Even after a saddlemen and 13 inch bars
Great vid.
Very nice love the street bob so much you can do to this bike ride safe peace to all ✌️
I just got myself a good deal on a leftover lowrider S and I love it but I can't help but be envious of the street bob's standard forks with the dust boots
Yes, terrific video thank you. I sure like the sport glide, but the single disk up front turned me away. It checked all the right boxes then bingo, Sorry folks we were heading there, but cost got in the way.
A good video. Interested to see how you mounted your Sat Nav, only seen mounts that would put it off centre.
The intro voice over sounded a little quite. But everything after that was fine.
Cool video man.
I agree with your process. I really like the Sport Glide, but it’s too expensive, same as the Heritage. For $18k or more I’d get a Touring chassis bike. I like and dislike the Low Rider and Low Rider S for the same reasons, and like the Standard and Street Bob for similar reasons. I really would prefer to be under $15k for my first HD, so those two make the most sense, and the clean looks really are growing on me. Plus they’re the lightest and more minimalist, and make best use of the 107 engine.
If you dont mind answering, what was the out the door price you paid for your bike? I am in the market for the same thing. Thanks!
Now I have the answer at the question I asked in the video you made about your first HD try 😄
Awesome Tutorial. 👍
I got a 2019 Street Bob and love it!
You know what other color is nice the Scorched Orange/Black Denim on my Fat Bob!
You helped me here. I would say same things. I am between street bob and sport glide now so will get bob too then. And what exhaust you have? Sounds dope.
Might try using ceramic polish to reduce dust attraction.
Street Bob was a serious contender for my purchase._ But I went with a Sportster.. will trade it in after I feel like I have mastered slow speed riding..
No love for the heritage? I do like the streetbob though it definitely is a blank canvas for whatever you like. Enjoyed your video
Can you show how you mounted your GPS on the street bob? I watched your vulcan video, but this looks like a different mounting style. Great Video!
It’s the same mount. Took it off my Vulcan when I traded it in. Just mounted on the back of the gauge cluster on the Street Bob.
@@GasWorksISO So just the double sided 3M tape?
Yes
@@GasWorksISO Awesome, thanks for the great channel!
Heritage classic is badass too, but I love my street bob
when helping a turtle, you should move them to the direction they are heading in. You moved him back to where he came from.
Yes I did. Where he was heading is nothing but 4 lanes of busy traffic and an empty field on the other side.
@@GasWorksISO than the empty field is where it wanted to go. why would you think a turtle wants to be in opposite direction than its head was facing? Whatever, im not getting into a spat over a turtle. Just do some research on them and you will see I'm right. Moving them in the direction their tail is pointing is incorrect.
Well next time I’ll walk him across the 4 lanes of traffic and we can both get run over along the way.
My 2007 had harley put 103 jugs on it ,flat black and by the way best bearings for the lower end do your research
Man I’m the opposite of you, I wanted chrome and more chrome, I went with the st std, love it.
Looking at an 09 street Bob dyna
Low Rider S was the one I liked, but neither color did anything for me. Side bags would have cost $3500 plus I want a windshield. By the time I got it the way I need it, the costs would be too much.
I would buy this bike as my first Harley only because I hate gauges on the tank
all the models you looked at share the same frame and engine. . its time for us to be able to click on exactly what we want from the manufacturers website, and have the bike built FOR us.
If I wasn't already subscribed I'd have subscribed just for saving the turtle. :) Have to say, the bike sounds great. Stock or did you put some aftermarket on?
where are you riding in this video? the views are absolutely amazing.
A little town called Cowiche Washington. Pronounced “cow”-“itchy”.
@@GasWorksISO hah dang, i had a feeling you were gonna say the west coast - that's on the other side of the country from me!
Street Rod is significantly smaller bike than the Street Bob - and more of a ‘modern’ styling (I’m getting to grips with all the models ...).
What gloves were you wearing in this vid please? Cheers!
Alpinestars SMX-1
Gas Works Garage - Thanks. Whoops, that first part/statement was intended as a question ... I do have that right, right? 😉
It’s smaller, yes.
Nice video! Can you please share what gps and mout you are using? Thanks!
The color you choose is so nice. So next bike is gonna be a tourer? You allready got the 125cc done, the Vulcan done, now the street Bob 😊😊😊
Love my Street Bob!
I got a street bob cause I didn't have the money for a low rider st... And el Diablo wasn't out yet
Thank you for a very well thought out video. Why you did not include the Heritage as a Softail??? I understand Harley considers that bike as a Touring model, but the chassis is a Softail. Using that logic, the Sportsglide is a touring bike, so it also should be in the touring section. And I difer on your comments about the Deluxe because I had a 2012 and I had lot of choices to customized it. Now, maybe on the new chassis, there may not be enough parts, which kind of explains why the model was cancelled. Low sales may have kill my beloved Deluxe. Ride safe and am looking forward to more videos. And thank you for saving Mr. Turtle.
The heritage is a beautiful bike! I like the blacked out version, but it was just a bit too spendy for me..
@@GasWorksISO for that price, you are so close to a Road King. They need to lower that price at 17,500 to get more sales and separate the Heritage from the Road King.
Agreed. I think Harley needs to lower prices 20-30% across the whole lineup. Bikes would literally fly out the doors..
What GPS and mount are you using in this video?
You picked it because it is SEXY!!!!😍🤩👍 I want the 114 though.
GWG with the way things are going for HD, do you see yourself buying another one of their bikes or would you consider a different brand? If so, which bike?
Harley will survive. But I think they will have to drop prices a LOT to get thru this. Hopefully the new CEO will get things going in the right direction. As far as buying another, yes, I will eventually. In a few years I plan on getting Road Glide for longer trips, but that’s a ways off, so who knows what will be on the market by then from other manufacturers..?
@@GasWorksISO I'm shopping for a vulcan voyager right now because HDs prices are still offensive.
Bro this dealership sounds trash I hope 3 years later they keep a stocked inventory
Can you do a review of your eliminator 300 exhaust?? Thinking of putting a set under mine street bob
Hey Great Video! I recently bought a 2021 Street Bob in the Baja Orange, question for you, how did you mount your gps in the center of the handlebars? did you use a kit or fabricate it yourself? thank you and safe riding
I curious about that myself. How did you do that?
Thanks for sharing your decision tree. Have you considered fat Bob?
Hey gas what kind of crops were you passing by with all the trellis’s? I have never seen anything like that before. Curious to a Texan.
Hops and grapes. Big wine and beer industry in my area.
Gas Works Garage thanks for the info. I always enjoy the ride along thanks for info
No mention of Harley’s iconic FatBoy?!?
I knew I forgot one!!!! Damnit!
The turtle was heading the other direction ... what if he was there already a week ago where you put him back 😄
Love the street bob?! If I were to pick up a second bike it would be a street Bob!
May I ask where this video was shot? Just a general idea? Looks like where I grew up in California? But I could be wrong!?
Cowiche, Washington
What about the Fat Bob!?
What GPS is that
FXFBS: "Am I a joke to you?"
Lol!
🤔
What GPS do you have mounted on their?
You say you didn’t want some bikes because of all the customization you’d have to do to them. But you said that you didn’t want an FXDR because you didn’t think it’s very customizable?
Eh.., it’s kind of the difference between having to change parts to make it comfortable and changing parts just for the fun of it..? Kind of hard to explain my reasoning....lol
i cant make my mind up on the 2021 Sport Glide or Low Rider S. Both pretty much same price and good lookin bikes.
I’d go Sport Glide no doubt. Forward controls, hard saddle bags, cruise control, passenger pegs… It’s got it all.
@@GasWorksISO yeah. I am leaning that way for those reasons.
Nice vid.the turtle lokked to be a yellowbellied slider most likely female looking for a place to nest.if possible and u see again being to nearest pond to ensure itams survival
Did you get ABS on yours?
What clamp do you have for the sat-nav?
I made a dedicated video about how it’s mounted. 👍🏻
What happened to you man. I enjoyed your vlogs. Peace
Great review and comparison with the other softails. I like the standard street bob (cos I like chrome!) and I may well have gone for it but it was not yet introduced when I brought my Low Rider. I think the graphics on the LR are ok. I went with black which I think looks best. The River rock colour you have is simply fantastic and I would love to have that colour on my LR. Thanks
Yes! If the low rider had the River Rock and no ‘swooshes’ it would be a gorgeous bike!
@@GasWorksISO ha,ha yes i agree.
whatever direction the turtle is facing is where they want to go. If you put them anywhere else they'll just come back. I don't understand Harley's whole 70's paint throwback. You're literally going back to the AMF days when Harley was at it's lowest
