Just a word about his comment on 80's shooting: Those were the best days for street shooting, or as i call them the last golden age of the street shooters. I was shooting back then, but didn't have the mind to know what I was in the middle of or where it would go. Kudos to you Poe, keep shooting the streets.
I really was able to connect with this guy and his feelings towards photography. The part where he speaks about the need to be creative to keep yourself from feeling down or depressed in his situation. Its that lack of creativity that brings me down, I have to be doing/creating something all the time, at least trying to. Great video!
The viewer shouldn't have to ask why the shutter button was pressed. A lot of his work has me scratching my head why...Make a photo, don't take a photo, huge difference.
I really enjoyed this -- been one of your fans on Flickr for a while - your perspective and post processing excites my photographic vision. I'll never be able to replicate it - but take from it what I can. JSturr.
JOHN PARISI I see this all the time. * If your subject knows you are there, it's not street photography * If there are no people in the shot, it's not street photography * If it's posed, it's not street photography * If you are not using film, it's not street photography * If you are shooting in Live Mode, it's not street photography * If it's not dangerous, it's not street photography * If it's in a tourist area, it's Travel Photography, not street photography * blah, blah, blah, blah Whoddafuq says they have the final say-so about what is and isn't? Is it their contention that you have to copy to be valid? My reply to those people is this: " "
this guy certainly has the balls. in the street with a neon shirt, a huge lens(24-70) with a huge petal hood. probably knows some Segal shit. but cool photos.
+badmelon18 Sometimes my mom shoots in live view so she can see something easier. Say for instance, she needs to shoot a picture of a ventilation duct or something hard to reach like that, she will switch to live view instead of using the view finder.
it calls snap photography not a street photography. go do more research and learn from old master such as garry winogrand, robert frank and henri bresson. if you think you can hold the shutter button and wish photo will come out. I guess you are doing it wrong.
No slam on Poe, but another NYC based street photog......Seriously, shooting street in NYC, London, Rome, LA, SF, and other cosmo-metro metropolises, is like shooting fish in a barrel, you'll always get something. Now do some street shooting in places like Boise, Des Moines or Amarillo, and come away with some stunning imagery, that takes talent.
This guy has skills and takes very well shot, nicely exposed, thoughtfully framed pictures. However, the content of most of the work shown here is just.... beige. This guy's portfolio reads like the public stream on flickr, the same tired shots of absolutely no substance beyond nice advertisement backgrounds. When he says he always looks for "shadows, reflections, bad weather, and light" that completely sums up his work. That is all he is actually taking pictures of. He is not USING these things to tell a story, he is simply taking pictures of these things. You've built up your technical abilities, time to start looking for the content. It's like the visual version of karaoke, he has a great voice but needs to work a lot harder on his song writing capabilities instead of just doing cover songs. No I'm not saying he is ripping anyone off but his shots are the same thing any tourist shoots, just with more technical ability.
+no name I think there's something to be said for a more documentary style of street photography. OK, so it might not be your cup of tea, but that's fine. It's not to my taste either. I quite like the cinematic style he brings to his photography, though.
Looks weird walking around with a big ass camera. As least try to act like a tourist i.e. backpack headphones anything to be as unassuming as possible.
Thank you Andrew. I can relate to a lot of what you said about photography. Nice work.
Thank you for this. Great interview, Andrew!
Awesome info and greatly needed

very good video. Need to get back to NYC for a couple of days.

Great video!
I love your message. It's how I feel. Keep shooting! :-)
Which lens? on video and in general to the fact that you are doing such a beautiful picture?
Enjoyed the video. You can always learn something from others or find inspiration if you are interested in the subject material.
Very well done. Great video

Great video man, Love your work...bravo :)
Thank you so much!
+TheHynez Exactly that! I love street photography and nature photography!
Love your photos man!!!
Nice low contrast colour, I like the atmosphere.

JSturr.
Very very nice !
Excellent video !
5:06 why is he wearing a microphone while doing street photography.
Also why not use the viewfinder...??
But the pictures are awesome ... Good work...
why is it that someone always has to pick a fight? Who makes the rules? I wanted to reply to guess777 but there is no reply button there.
JOHN PARISI It's internet, people love to hate each other.

What lens do you use?
this guy certainly has the balls. in the street with a neon shirt, a huge lens(24-70) with a huge petal hood. probably knows some Segal shit. but cool photos.
Why is he shooting in live view mode?
it doesn't matter how you get. as long as you get it,
+badmelon18 Sometimes my mom shoots in live view so she can see something easier. Say for instance, she needs to shoot a picture of a ventilation duct or something hard to reach like that, she will switch to live view instead of using the view finder.
+badmelon18 I'm not sure but it seems like he is focusing manually, cheers! Although I still have the same question why live view?
+badmelon18 the focusing is usually better in live view, well at least in my experiences. I shoot manual 98% of the time btw.
If you do a screen grab at 1:02, the frame is awesome.
Thanks Jacob!
***** it is yes!
good vid. although, a bit strange that the entire interview with him is out of focus
Really like this guy. smart.
3:23 shooting DSLR like a pro ^^
the green baby!!!!
Dat dead pixel.
***** Spent a bit of time trying to clean my screen....

Phil Walsh disagree
Phil Walsh rule no1: its not street photography if there is no street.
Phil Walsh that's your opinion.
Ага спасибо, все очень понятно!
Damn this dude thinks just like me.

Is it really street photography if you’re using a zoom lens? I don’t think so. If you’re not close, it’s not street photography.
@4:00 You can't shoot with the camera turned off.
some screens turn off when looking throught the viewfinder.
@@luisliv_ Right, his was already off and he turned it on that's why the sensor cleaning feature showed up on his screen.
On The Money
nice
Cool video
But where is the street photography though
Good work ... Come see some of mines
Shoot with. Leica M3 film camera. Now your talking grass roots street photography.
ToddB987 According to the metadata on Flickr, he uses Sony A7r2+Zeiss Lens😀
