Arthi Prem, Moving money from traditional 401K into ROTH IRA when switching jobs might come out ahead only if you are leaving the country in 5 years. Best way to handle that is by moving the 401K money into traditional IRA. If it comes to us leaving the country after 5 years, that is the time we should be moving the money from traditional IRA into ROTH IRA as the income will be least in the year we are moving and so less tax incurred from the move. Better yet, we should be moving the money into ROTH IRA following year after we move back to India, that way we will incur least tax.

Wow , I was assuming the rollover to ira is bound to income limits (like individual roth ira ) which is not the case. Having money in the ex-company 401k will let you withdraw only after 59 (unless u want to pay 10% ) , this is a shortcut to withdraw after 5 years. Great information 👌

And the suggestion is to move the ex company 401k to ira rollover when 1) the market is down, so u will have less value and pay less taxes 2) do the rollover in the years where you have less taxable income to fall in lower tax buckets

One question there is lot of confusion and mis information in h1b transfer using i140.Suppose after 6 yrs completion in h1b and found a new job using existing i140..After moving to new job with existing i140..should we again submit perm or can we keep extending h1b using already existing i140 ...

Bro we can extend using the existing I140 which approved by previous employer... also its better to transfer the I140 to the current employer its not mandate but when u you got the interview for green card your I140 should belong to the current employer
