Historicalaerials shows that something was where that dam looking structure was in 1969 which is as far back as it would go in that area. There is another creek directly behind that embankment.
Looking at Topo maps from 1944 and prior show the Delaware and Hudson Canal (rail) going over that embankment/dyke you were walking over and heading north. Modern topo maps call it Old Mining Road 3. As it heads due North from where you last were, it splits where Route 6 and Meredith Street route split. Both 6 and Meredith appear to be in the same location as the old rail bed, which makes sense. The Meredith line goes into Carbondale, the other heads into Honesdale, etc.., there is a lot of info on this. But the maps for the Delaware and Hudson only show it going to Carbondale - you need to look at the pre 1944 maps to see the actual part of the rail that heads south of Carbondale to Archibald. From where you are at the dyke the rail goes south and it looks like Hill Street in Archibald is the rail bed that eventually goes into Archibald and merges with a bunch of other rail stuff. I am just following maps, I am not a historian at all. Thanks again for showing the maps and locations. No indicators of Edgerton.
At 5:38, I am most sure that's where the portable generator was stored. This was a big party spot. They had a shelter here with a lot of lights. I actually saw them partying on my way to the geocache. They moved the party spot to Archbald now. I think it was called the Carbondale Township Sportsman Club. That's what all those lines/circle looking objects with a white speck in the middle are.
That last part could have been a train grade. If they were taking coal out by train, they would have built it up to level instead of going down and back up. The reservoir was really cool. The building was an awesome find. Makes sense that you would filter the water before running it through the pipes. 💙 Can't wait for you to go back out there in the winter.
Hey Jay! and Hello to "Sunny-the-Snake!" Lol! At least he's your favorite color (Blue racer, I think). Building 559 was a curious structure. Favorite finds: The pretty little waterfall and the step falls, too! Loved the gorgeous scenery all the way through, and the filtration house was really cool! Very impressive Haoqui ebike, the way it handled the rocky terrain. Loved this adventure! Thanks for bringing us along!😊💙
At 1:12:04, if I remember correctly from the book, there was something down there to do with the town. At 1:12:41, the breaker and the cavern were/are up there. Not too far above the cavern are more small things to see. At 1:14:22, that is were the breaker was. At 1:15:44, the cavern is up there with a geocache inside from 2002.
By no means bored or disappointed with the length of the video or the discoveries! I really like the way you unraveled the mysteries of this area as you explored it and incorporated your knowledge of its history. Also appreciate your firsthand thoughts/review of the ebike as you put it through its paces. 💙
Also the fire hydrant that may be tapped into one of those water mains that runs down from that Reservoir probably the one that's not running, I remember there were two valve stations up there but only one pipe was showing down through the landscape unless the other pipe was heading in a different direction, you were mentioning how you followed a pipeline in another video, I think it would be really cool to come back to this place and follow that Pipeline and see where that goes Because by the looks of it and the flow of water through it it is still active and it will be coming out somewhere.
I'm a first time viewer and new subscriber. I'm fascinated with history and love to explore myself. I really enjoyed following along as you explored. 💙 I don't know how far you go to explore but I have a recommendation for you. There's many "ghost towns in the Black Hills of SD. One that's fun is Galena. They've restored some of the buildings but there's still a lot to explore. The cemetery has so many stories to discover. There a markers dating back to the Civil War. So much to learn and discover all over the Black Hills 😊
It was amazing to see the pump house, I think it was built after the town was gone. It's very odd to see that electrical cord built into that small shead, seems like a very long distance to run underground electrical wire. Excellent video JP 👍
Thoroughly enjoyed this adventure! Waterfall, gorgeous greenery, mystery items -what's not to love!?! -Can't wait for you to go back in the winter and explore more corners of this beautiful area! 💙
JP - the dam levy at 1:25:48 was built in the 70's by the Army Corps of Engineers. it was all part of the Aylesworth Creek Lake flood protection project after the flooding from Hurricane Diane in 1955. in case of a catastrophic flood - the main Aylesworth dam is designed to hold back water up until around that area where the levy is before water goes over the spillway. that levy just gives the main dam some extra protection. I was only though there once but didn't make it to the reservoir - might have to take a hike up there soon. great video
Very cool adventure. I used to go on such searches myself but due to health reasons, I now watch your videos and others who post here. Thank you for sharing. My life is now lived in a wheelchair and oxygen tube so my exploration days are over. Nice job with your hard work then editing the whole thing I’m sure is a lot of work and commitment.
At 53:35, the area is pretty much the same over the years except for the party spot. I think there was even a refrigerator there! There were 2 outhouses-one labeled "bucks" and the other "does".
Seeing all them abandoned buildings makes me wonder what they did, like did they use them to bring coal up to ground level. or load coal on to train's. Interesting!💙
Awesome adventure JP! Awesome to see where the pipe originates! I cant wait to see where it ends up, really looking forward to that one! Amazing finds in this video! Awesome E Bike also! Navigated that rough terrain nicely! Thanks for bringing us along!👍💙
I liked this video 🎉. I like that you took all of us with you. I wouldn't be able to go and see the stuff you have seen and showed us, so I'm glad that I could see 👀 it through your eyes. 💙💙💙💙💙💙
Hey Jay WOW, what an amazing video. There was a lot of beautiful scenery along the journey. The reservoir is such an awesome place. Not for sure obviously, but I'm thinking the cul-de-sac with the flags and fire hydrant may have been a campsite at one time hence the reason for the sign to take your trash with you. It was a long video, and I sadly admit, that I closed my eyes for a few minutes since I was watching later in the evening, but it certainly wasn't out of bordism. I truly loved the adventure and am blessed to have had the opportunity to have come along with you. Will be watching for the next video. Until then stay safe and God bless. Steve in Oklahoma
It looks like that concrete block little structure with the roof on it is a place where somebody could stick a generator to sit and whatever that cord is plugged into it, or it's somehow a place for a water pump, but I think it might be for a generator, a structure like that definitely would make it quieter. And that pipe that is still buried in the ground with the section of it washed further down, I believe those are old steel tanks converted into culverts, that was very common back in the early 1900's where they used to reuse tanks and turn them into culverts cuz it was cheaper than buying Calvert's.
At 1:09:09, I think you are in the area with many homes. My friend (who lives in Delaware now) bought the book which had a map and 2 years ago we went through the whole area following the map.
Just watched again and this was an awesome journey and adventure, the history is so interesting, and the landscape is just beautiful! I love the underwater footage, even seeing Sunny the snake.🐍lol The waterfall is beautiful, and I really like that section of woods that was so open. I wanted to add that the bike looks like it's really reliable for adventures like this. Your photos are amazing as always! Looking forward to when you return for part 2 of this adventure. Great video JP, thank you! 💙
I enjoy looking/finding places like this in general. In fact, the video of "Ol' Greenville" you made, I traveled 380 a lot and never knew that was ever there. Me & a friend went to check it ourselves. In fact, part of the old bypass does run onto private property and you can still see the brick outline of the bypass on the edge of the road.💙
💙 Wow what a beautiful view. Was that snake blue?!?!? You are very brave wandering around out there by yourself. You always do such a great job tho making the videos. The stories of the past. 💙 It will be be interesting if you can return. Looking forward to that! Safe travels.
He Jay, I watched the entire video this morning (Sat) while I was making Oatmeal Raisin Cookies for my church tail gate picnic. I was so impressed. some of my cookies were cooked a little too long but it was worth it. I am so anxious for you to go back. The reservoir was so beautiful. Thanks so much I wish I could repay you for all the enjoyment. Maybe sending you and Jill and lily some cookies.?
Wonderful video once again @ JPVideos81! But have you ever considered wearing snake boots? Even if you are unable to bike in them perhaps you could take them with you and wear them when you get off the bike to walk around and explore. I’m sure it would ease your wife’s mind and make us feel a little better. 😢😢😢
💙💙love these long videos. And it sure was fun coming along with you. And trying to figure out what the different things were used for, or why they were there. I hope we can see it when it is not so green and hard to see things. That will be a exciting video. And really what is it with you this year and snakes…lol
This was a AWESOME video !! There was so much to see and explore !! Absolutely beautiful here .....the pump house 😳 the the step falls 😳 the Reservoir 😳 WOW !! 💙
💙 I, too, am fascinated with exploring the past. Great video; Love your enthusiasm and perseverance. I always look forward to your videos. I especially like how you talk to us as if we are really there with you.

I am amazed at all the beautiful secluded spots you find. I would be interested in knowing what state you are exploring in,. I enjoy seeing the underwater shots. Have you ever found anything interesting in the water? I am surprised there are no big snapping turtles :) Are you ever apprehensive about being on these adventures alone? I love the history lessons and this site would be interesting to uncover some ruins. Prayers for your safety, health, and blessings to you!
Just watched your long fascinating explore and encounter with Sunny the 🐍 !!Your enthusiasm is infectious ,love your positivity. I never made it to Pennsylvania unfortunately but from what I see you have some beautiful scenery . Thank you JP. Gill 🇬🇧
Just a great adventure. So much fun looking around with you, like being a kid. The snakes will almost always go the other way- but don't ever touch that caterpillar.
💙💙💙 i have enjoyed this video . i love exploring . and these longer videos are great . such a beautiful area and love the water falls . so quite there or it seems to be .💙💙💙
💙 A nice video of your bike excursion. I wonder how that car got out there in the middle of nowhere, and then turned upside down to remove the catalytic converter. The cul-de-sac would be a good place for a summer picnic or birthday party. Interesting from start to finish!💙
Amazing video and amazing review on that Explorer bike that was an amazing e-bike it took you through areas that I thought you would not going to make it but that bike put you and went through everything you went through and this video was amazing through my 4K 65 inch Smart TV was amazing the views the sound it was awesome I cannot wait for part 2 on this video I don't know how you do this but man JP cannot wait for part two and I cannot wait what you have installed behind your camera page as well thank-you JP see you on your next video💙🩵👍
This was another great adventure full of interesting finds. Thank you for sharing these discoveries & for the content diversity you offer to all us viewers!!!!!!! 💙
That was an awesome hike/ride. Wore me out. LOL Seriously, it was beautiful and the filtration building was a super plus. That little waterfall and pond was a nice surprise. Yes, go back when there's no leaves. Maybe take your drone and wear orange if it's hunting season. Hey, got ya naming snakes now. Sunny is a beautiful Northern Water Snake. That stump isn't that old. I have stumps from trees that were cut about 20 -25 years ago or so and they look like that. Looking forward to when you go back. 💙
I really enjoyed the video JP, The large concrete block with the 4 metal rods looks like it could have been part of the head house of the mine and breaker. Keep up the awesome work. 💙
I been watching your videos for awhile but never comment much. But I noticed at the 1:07:33 mark. When u post the pile of rocks being a “wall/foundation.Well In the distance it looks like their was a concrete structure in the woods in the background. I zoomed in and I can’t tell if it’s a concrete structure or a tree that has fallen down? Maybe y’all can check it out. I really enjoy your vids JP keep them coming.
💙 Absolutely enjoyed watching his video and all of your videos to the end. WOW, what an awesome find, the building at the reservoir was is great condition, could imagine seeing it working in hits hay day. It's such a shame to see towns just disappear, can only imagine who lived there and what the town was like when it was still standing and very much a bustling mining town.
Is it my poor hearing or are there no birds? So many trees no humans I would think the forest would be singing with birds. I probably watch too many bigfoot video's quiet forests. Fabulous video!!!!
JP, Watched the hole video, all railroad videos, rail trail videos, watch them all, can't get enough, doesn't matter how long, let me look for the blue heart, when I watch on my smart TV, can't leave a comment, need to go to phone or computer. But always give you like, wish I was there to help you explore this territory to find the old town ruins, this adventure is where it was good to bring 4 people and each take an area to explore... can't find the blue heart, so is a red one ❤ blue heart, where is it, oh well, will just enter blue heart 😊💙💙found it haha
There are no wild "water moccasins" (cottonmouths) in PA - their range is much farther south. Sunny is a beautiful Northern Water Snake - nonvenomous and nothing to be afraid of! JP, you will come to love snakes yet!!!
It's difficult finding remains from over 100 years ago, but what we did find was pretty interesting. I think this area has more to be uncovered...
Historicalaerials shows that something was where that dam looking structure was in 1969 which is as far back as it would go in that area. There is another creek directly behind that embankment.
Yes, there's also the Edgerton cavern (and nearby, bolts into small stone foundations) and the air shaft. Also, the old waterwheel to clean the creek.
Yes, I saw that on Historicalaerials also. @@D3M3NT3Dstrang3r

Lots of Oddities, but that's what makes it fun. Never know what you'll see.
Probably housed a petrol(gas) generator and that helped to keep the noise down and the weather off

Great video, Jay. Very cool views of an abandoned town. I wouldn’t worry about the snake. It’s a common northern water snake, non venomous.
Beautiful area. So MANY great finds! I believe that was a northeastern water snake (non venomous).
A few said water moccasin. Either way, I'm glad I didnt go for a swim.
I reckon he was a water snake as he was happy there
💙 Wow what a beautiful view. Was that snake blue?!?!?

5:35 this looks like a generator can be hooked up - maybe a well pump?
This is one of the best videos I’ve watched on RUclips it’s very mysterious

I wonder if that little building in the woods u found is either a gate house for the gate or a little guard house for the gate 💙
Since it's relatively close to the gate, it may have been used with it. 💙

When u post the pile of rocks being a “wall/foundation.Well In the distance it looks like their was a concrete structure in the woods in the background. I zoomed in and I can’t tell if it’s a concrete structure or a tree that has fallen down? Maybe y’all can check it out. I really enjoy your vids JP keep them coming.
great explore for sure, really enjoyed it a lot ...this area requires a revisit or two who knows what the vegetation is hiding. take care 💙

Hi Jay. Awesome video. Hope you are doing great.
At 36:30, the Dan looks so similar to the #5 dam, except for the step falls.💙
I swear I wrote dam, and not Dan...lol
Yes, very similar design
Thank you JP 💙

💙 Absolutely enjoyed watching his video and all of your videos to the end. WOW, what an awesome find, the building at the reservoir was is great condition, could imagine seeing it working in hits hay day. It's such a shame to see towns just disappear, can only imagine who lived there and what the town was like when it was still standing and very much a bustling mining town.
💙😊
Really cool adventure. Hope you get back in winter and find even more. 👍🏻
I'm hopeful 🤞
Thanks JP! Great video as always!💙

💙
Enjoyed every minute of it!!!
It’s always interesting to explore
@ 32:30 that looks deep ..
💙 Thanks for the adventure!
My pleasure 💙
Awesome Video jp keep up the Great work buddy :D
Is it my poor hearing or are there no birds? So many trees no humans I would think the forest would be singing with birds. I probably watch too many bigfoot video's quiet forests. Fabulous video!!!!
I was back there a few years ago, and where the flag pole is, if you look into the woods facing south, there were several parts of old buildings
Awesome video!! Love the beautiful nature (except the snake😂) and learning the history of that area! Thank you for taking me along!! Stay safe!💙
Will we see a kayaking adventure at this reservoir?
Maybe? 🤔
Hopefully you made it back by now, or before the foliage comes in. Great video!
Great video!❤
What a great location and explore. The last spot, the "levie", I think may have been for a level railroad spur for removing the coal. 👍🤙
That's something I didn't consider, but could be a possibility. Thanks for watching Frank.
At 9:00, yes it is intentional. Back when it was intact years ago, it looked just like the rest of the dirt road going over the creek.
Haha thanks
enjoy exploring always
Hi Jay this video was awesome👍👍👍👍
snake looks like a water moccasin. great bike trek. 🌺🌺🙏🙏🌺🌺 💙💙
I'm glad I didn't decide to go for a dip 💙
There are no wild "water moccasins" (cottonmouths) in PA - their range is much farther south. Sunny is a beautiful Northern Water Snake - nonvenomous and nothing to be afraid of! JP, you will come to love snakes yet!!!
