you are the MAN! thank you from a woman who has been taken for a ride for the last 15 years maintaining my 1991 geo tracker. i stumble across your video for check engine lights...thank you! Now I can view this, go to my mechanic and speak the same lingo and make him know I'm aware of switches and sensors, etc.
U r the man!! These are the things dealers have been doing to reel in business...but now they can't do that because we have smart people like this guy (obviously know his stuff) will figure it out and share!! Thank you for sharing. It helps when u don't have tons of money to throw away on services u don't need from the dealer. Worse mistake of my life was getting rid of my tracker!!!
In my 95 Geo Tracker, there is a plastic, removable panel right in front of the driver's knees. I snapped out the panel, and found the switch. One click of the switch didn't not do the trick, though. After three or four clicks back and fourth, it worked like a charm. Thanks to Mr. Robinson for his very helpful video. Kudos to Robinson!!
Great video. This helped me out a little over a year ago, when I was denied service for my CEL on my '93 Geo Tracker. It was my EGR (code 51), and after I cleaned it up real good, including the temp sensor), I was good to go, until yesterday, it came back on again. After cleaning it out again, I was getting a code 12. Removing the Tail Dome fuse for about 30 seconds won't clear it. And I can't find that white box, so I'm guessing that a '93 is different. However, when I remove the paper clip, I don't get a CEL anymore, so I think I'm good to go.
What a clear video, with great audio and really good close focus. What video camera are you using? The notion of designing a car to malfunction so that the client will bring the car in for service is very short sighted.
I sure wish I saw your video before taking it to the repair shop when my check engine light came on! It costed about $100, and worst of all, they said that they can't fix it because all the EGR parts are discontinued for my 1993 Geo Tracker. I took your advice, using a paper clip, and also came up with 15. Anyway, they told me that I need an EGR Valve, EGR Transducer, and EGR Coolant Temperature Sensor. I have a very detailed service manual for my Geo, and can't find anything about a EGR Transducer. Is that the same thing as the EGR Modulator? I found a website where I can order the EGR Valve, but not the Transducer and Sensor. Any ideas? Thanks!
HEY Will, I HAVE A 1994 TRACKER, I've TRIED "everything" listed, My "Check Engine Light" Is Stuck On" NO matter what I do, It Just STAYS LITE UP" ON" PERIOD! WHAT IS YOUR THOUGHTS?? THANKS!
My 1987 Chevy Sprint Turbo has a hidden SWITCH under the steering wheel. It looks like a light switch. There is no jumper wire needed! No inserting of fuses. Some watching this may have a similar setup if they have any geo/chevy/suzuki lovechild.
What would a jumper wire be considered I have a old ground wire made with copper I don't want to break anything or fry any wiring will the copper wire I have work
I just bought an 89 geo tracker :-) to go with my 94 geo metro. I get average 55mpg winter 65mpg summer and I can hit 70mpg. I am hoping to get 30-32 in the tracker with some tweaking.
So, with that last comment in text, do you mean that the check engine light comes on around 100k, no matter what? And when you flip the switch you leave it flipped to the opposite side forever from then on? And the check engine light will then function normally after 100k miles?
on my tracker it would not let me check the codes until i fliped the switch . so in other words if you are checking the code and your light isnt flashing it is more than likely the switch needs to be flipped . after i flipped my switch i got a code 12 .
Hello, My SUZUKI vitara jlx canvas 1.6 1990 engine light comes on. I can not turn it off? Have shorted plug in the engine compartment, but the lights are still there. Have had the fuse out for 30 seconds, but no light goes out? There is no switch under the dashboard? How do I switch it? Regards ...
my 95 did the same thing a code 51,,,,but mine turned out to be the stainless steal tubing connected to the bottom of the egr valve and runs up to the intake manifold by the tube that goes to the brake booster..was blocked with carbon, which kept the hot air that should be going into the intake manifold....which means the thermister could not get hot enough to tell the pcm.. it is working...so it would throw the code. again...
My 95 tracker has a black switch behind the left front speaker...take the speaker grill off then the speaker out....and right behind, to the right side of the opening was the switch...after fixing my egr problem...I just took the battery cable off for a 2 minutes...
I have tried everything shown in the video. First when I jumper no codes flash; the "check engine" remains on steady. Second, though the switch is slightly different, pushing it does not turn the light off. Third, pulling the fuse does not clear the light. And fourth, disconnecting the battery does not clear the lights. Anybody have any more ideas?\ Herman
que tal amigos! tengo un geo tracker 1996 no e podido eliminar la luz de chek engine alguien me puede explicar paso a paso el video en mi idioma (español)

If you have a 6 pin connector, you jumper pins b and d. A is the blank slot, and b and d are the two slots 'touching' it, one beside and one below.
I was looking for this answer. Thank you G!
95 geo convertible here- thank you for the video!
It really works!!! Thanks!!! I removed 3rd fuse and problem solved... My code was 24

You rock!!!! I've had this same issue with mine for years!
nice, thanks for sharing. damn those underhanded dealers/manufacturers...

Hi! Thanks for video! My 94 wouldn't even let me read the code until I toggle that switch! I though my connection to B and C was wrong.
LEGEND
Thank you, BIG help
hey...1991 here!
I have a 95 geo tracker. To retrieve the codes you said jump 2 and 3? Yours only have 4 slots but mine has 6 so I just wanted to make sure.
i have a 91 geo and the jumper wire didnt work and a obd1 scanner didnt connect to ecm and i have no white switch can you help?
same here...1991 and no code showing...no switch...jumpers didnt work either.
Do this work on a vitara jlx 1995 model?

Hi. I just moved mine to the opposite side and it cleared. Has just crossed 290,000 miles.
So what do I do if it has 5/6 wires in the plug ware I'm suppose to jump it?
Good info!
Good Stufff !!
I can get the codes but I can't find the switch anywhere, any tips on where to look
what are those ports next to the fusebox?
do you need jumper installed for that
Does a91 sidekick have a 0bd-1 switch ?
I believe it has obd 1 diagnostics. Obd 2 wasn't until 1996.
It should also have the switch shown towards the end of the video.
what if I jump the wire and the check engine light does not blink? it just stays on.
Did you ever get an answer? Mine started doing the same thing. Light came on, now it wont clear.
1990 Geo Tracker. Can't find reset switch. It's because it's California model and not federal?
Have a saab 95 900 se with same problem check ingene dont go out
don't have scanner.. can you please tell me how to retrieve codes???
What's the white plug there called

Is this the same for a 92 geo tracker
on my tracker it would not let me check the codes until i fliped the switch . so in other words if you are checking the code and your light isnt flashing it is more than likely the switch needs to be flipped . after i flipped my switch i got a code 12 .

Did you found the solution? I have the code 12 flashing and no switsh on a Suzuki Vitara 1990 1.6L
I found the "problem" on my car, someone had put a fuse in the diagnose hole, so after I removed the fuse the check engine light went away!
On my 1995 tracker the switch was behind the speaker grill...take the grill off and you could see it..
my 95 did the same thing a code 51,,,,but mine turned out to be the stainless steal tubing connected to the bottom of the egr valve and runs up to the intake manifold by the tube that goes to the brake booster..was blocked with carbon, which kept the hot air that should be going into the intake manifold....which means the thermister could not get hot enough to tell the pcm.. it is working...so it would throw the code. again...

Did you ever find out what to do? I have this issue :(
Wow I'm shocked that a 94 Geo is still on the road.
I see your ten year old comment and thought I'd let you know that my 94 Tracker is running and looking great (original paint, top and interior).
@@jeffhammers5677 Nice, man, post up some videos of the thing. How did you keep it up and running all these years?
My 94 Tracker is still on and off the road 12 years after you made your comment.
So i did this but CEL wont come on. Never does. But my 92 is def running like shit.
I belive my code is 31 what I should do? Thanks .
My 89 has code 12 and doesn't have that switch.
Why is my car overdrive flashing ?!
