We just talked about this in Bible study last night. We were not agreed on committing sin. This is really eye opening and explains every question I had! I became a Christian as a child. I have struggled with sin (addiction) for years. I did not want to justify my sinning but I had no idea how to understand what was going on inside me. I hated, still hate, when I sin. I do not want to sound legalistic, but feeling bad about doing something wrong does not mean that you hate doing that thing. It's just your conscience and the HS. If you really hate doing wrong you will not do it. If you love God with all your heart, you will not put your desires and feeling ahead of Him like Adam and Eve in the garden. If we are born-again, we will be lead by the Spirit and will come to a point in our lives where we will cease to sin (1John 3:6-10). Jesus as man never sinned because He was constantly being led by the Spirit of God (Hebrews 2:14-18; Hebrews 4:14,15, Matt 4:1). Christ is our example and He expects us to overcome sin in the flesh as He did (Rev 3:21,22). The key is to be born-again (total surrender to Jesus)and heed the voice of the Spirit. 1John 3:4-10 4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. 6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. 7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. Romans 7 is the life of someone who was convicted of sin but not born again or lead by the Spirit. This vid instantly made me a subscriber. I’ve been battling some stuff lately and I was led to Romans 7. Read it. Barely got it. Started to get it. Then found this video and it started to make more sense. But I still hate that I sin when I don’t want any part of it.
🙏 Very encouraging to hear that it was useful! Regarding your point about sin, I think this 4 part Video will help: www.crosspaint.tv/timothy-course/ May the Lord bless you 🙏
Thank God for having Paul write this and for people like you preaching it correctly, the Bible means what It says and says what It means. So many want to twist this scripture out of context but it means SO much for new Christians to understand this, why they still sin I was having so much doubt and struggle until I read this years ago and also that our bodies are slaves to sin but our spirits are slaves to righteousness.
That’s Awesome! Praise the Lord. Bro, want to got deeper into the word of God? We have a 4-part special called “The Timothy Course”. I’m sure you will like it! crosspaint.tv/hello-tim/

Hi Charles! Thanks for your question! You are definitely in a spiritual battle, yes! Don't give up, it's only worth it! Keep it up with the different content we have made, it will be a great help to you.
May the Lord bless you real, real good!! He gave you this simplistic understanding of this most-challenging chapter...maybe in the whole Bible...if you ask me. 😊
@lindawhite1943 it is very simple and such wonderful news that takes a load off. Yet a lot of these comments reflect that they just aren't seeing and understanding exactly what Paul was trying to explain to us.
The reminder at 2:49 seems like a problem anachronistically. Doesn’t it? Adam and Eve’s problem wasn’t sin, as sin had not entered in until they took the fruit. It was temptation. Maybe defining “sin” as “temptation” would be better, no?
@@judymiller5154 What good truths, hey? Praise God for His grace in our lives. All I was saying is that the video made a point that I don't think was valid. They described our sin nature as the reason Adam and Eve sinned. But with Adam and Eve that wasn't their nature until they sinned. I agree that they were still tempted as Jesus was, but failed where Jesus didn't. And that's why the 2nd Adam is greater than the first (Rom. 5)!
For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. (Rom 7:18) If Paul is saying here he is incapable of doing what is right, how is it he is able to dictate this letter? Is he somehow trapped in his body and someone / something else is speaking?
@crosspaint there are other religions that want to do God's will but can not because they lake the power. As true beleivers we have the power to do God's will not just desire. The law of death has the desire but no way to do. So do Muslims and jews... faith without works is dead. The desire is measly the outward working of God not yet the inward working of a changed heart.
SO GOOOOOOOD!! IM WATCHING FROM BRAZIL, AND I WOULD REALLY LIKE IF RHIS VIDEO HAD PORTUGUESE CAPTIONS! MY CHURCH NEEDS IT! I CAN HELP U IF U WANT! COUNT ON ME, THINK ABOUT IT. I WOULD BE SO GLAD TO HELP. GOD BLESS U GUYS!!
So if I hate my sin one moment and like it another moment, do I have Jesus in me? Are we suppose to hate it every single time? I'm talking about the impurity inside my mind. It seems to be a battle every day. I remember scripture, pray daily, repent and read the Bible every day. I can also hear the devil and his demons from things I've done in my past. I've been struggling, but my walk with Christ is new. My life is confusing.
In Romans 7, Paul recounted his struggles under the Law while still seeking a deliverance, which he found in Jesus. In Romans 7:14 he clearly identified himself as being in bondage to sin, so he is not talking of his experience as a born again or saved person, or a "new creature in Christ" (2 Corinthians 5:17) so to speak. So, Romans 7 should never be used to explain that a Christian is continuing to live in sin. That's ignoring the foundation for the Christian life laid out in all of Romans 6, and missing the transition from Romans 7 to Romans 8:1 where the apostle Paul speaks of being in Christ Jesus and under no condemnation, not walking according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Only then is he talking of his life as a Christian, having been delivered from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). That is the exact opposite of the situation in Romans 7:23 where he spoke about being in captivity to the law of sin working in his members. Romans 7:14-25 is about the apostle Paul's experience when he was still in sin and lost and seeking a deliverance. He did find in Jesus his deliverance / salvation / freedom from sin (John 8: 31-36, Romans 6:7, 18). 1 Peter 2:21-25 21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow his steps, 2 who “committed no sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth.” 23 Who, when he was cursed, did not curse back. When he suffered, did not threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously; 24 who his own self bore our sins in his body on the tree, *that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness;* by whose wounds you were healed. 25 For you were going astray like sheep; but now have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. To help you come out of the confusion you feel that there is in your life, please see the videos in my playlist called _"Be Set Free From Sin". _ Take some time to understand well the way you need to approach God. Your obedience to God is the key to your deliverance from any sin that you are bound in (Hebrews 5:9). Peace to you!
@@LucrativeLeroy You're welcome. I appreciate your response. It's an uphill battle because the result of many things that are preached is the opposite of the victorious life we all can have in Jesus, without being double-minded or seeming to be living a double life. I have been through that "confusion." For any follow up, feel free to reach me on my channel. I don't want to add much to this thread. Take care.
Thank you so much for addressing just who Paul's audience was, which were Christians. How would they not be saved if he's telling them they died to the law through the body of Christ? ( Romans 7:4 NIV So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ) Notice also that he's calling them brothers and sisters. Lots of people read right past these very important verses. God bless you and your ministry. 🙏
It was just through this video, I understood, that sin is only in the body of the believer. Before, I actually believed in this having-two-identities-at-the-same-time-thing. I did not realize it watching it the first time though. But later. The video is really extremly helpful!
Great video.....the way God taught me was through heb 4:12 We are saved in our spirit ..yes ! Its is completely sinless. But our soul is not saved or sinless .....it is constantly being saved and renewed! It is with the mind of the soul or flesh ...we live sinful lives because all of our choices reside in the will power of the soul ...hence Rom7:25 Now as sons and daughters of God we must with our own mind or (soul) ...choose to serve the mind of our born again spirit... who is guided by the Holy Spirit!!! Awsome right ?? I know ...lol God is amazing 👏
I think I'm understanding, but what about when people say it's not u! It's the devil, evil , making u do these bad things called sin. Im kinda confused 🤔
The Bible teaches us that we have three enemies that we must face in our lives: the Devil, the world, and the flesh. Each of these enemies poses a unique challenge, but with the help of God, we can overcome them. First, there is the Devil, who tempts us with things that are not of God. But as 1 Corinthians 10:13 reminds us, "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." And, as Jude 9 reminds us, "But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a railing judgment upon him, but said, 'The Lord rebuke you!'" It's important to call upon God for help and resist the devil, as stated in James 4:7 "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." 🙏 🌍 Second, there is the world and its systems and temptations that can lead us towards sin and away from God. 1 John 2:15 states, "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." And 1 John 2:17 reminds us that "And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever." Third, there is the flesh, the battle of the self-life and the Christ-life. Galatians 5:17 says, "For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do." This old nature cannot please God. It cannot be converted, or even patched up. But as Romans 6:11 reminds us, "So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus." This is done by faith. It is crucial to remember that we are not alone in this battle, and through faith in God and obedience to His will, we can overcome these enemies. 🙏🙌💪 #backtotheword
Don't misunderstand, I like the video. I'm not sure I agree with the statement at 3:54 about you only having one identity and "it's not like you have a split personality with an OLD SELF and a NEW SELF." I'm going to differ with that statement. You do have and "old man and a new man" and you can choose which one you yield to and serve. The old man although "crucified with Christ" is still very much active in all believers and is on of the 3 enemies of the believer along with the other two being the world and the devil. James 1:8 indicates that a Christian can be "double minded" which literally means to have "two souls "or two ways of thinking going on inside. That Christian with "two souls" is unstable spiritually for certain and really mentally as well and will not have their prayers answered. Their lives will be one defeat after another. If that's not in essence a "split personality" of sorts I don't know what is. The Christian is admonished to "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus." and in Romans 12:1,2 to be "transformed by the renewing of your mind". We still have things in our minds after salvation that are inconsistent with the Christian life that we need to learn to get rid of or to change. I understand that as far as God is concerned the "old man" is "crucified with Christ" judiciously, but I can tell you from personal experience your old man can be yielded to and it doesn't like staying on the cross!!! The ruined lives of thousands of Christians including Pastors of churches attest to that reality! Living the Christian life goes against everything the world, the flesh, and the devil stand for and all 3 will fight you tooth and nail. If you don't experience that fight I would doubt you are a Christian at all. Ephesian 4:22-24" That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness."
In my own testimony, I used to struggle to understand what Paul was writing about in Romans chapter 7, but by prayer and consistent Bible study, God opened up my eyes to understand Romans chapter 7, over time. In Romans chapter 7 verse 21, Paul writes, "So I find this law at work. Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me." Paul really understood the Torah to know what he was writing. Paul's comments relate to humanity's condition, as revealed from the Torah. First, when God confronts Cain, God says "If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it." -- (Genesis 4:7). Again, God warns again, "Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood.." (Genesis 8:21). What Paul is elaborating upon is his struggle with the "evil inclinations" in his heart and that sin desires to have him, as explained in the Torah. In Romans chapter 7 verses 22 through 25, Paul explains that even though, as a Jew, he has the Law of Moses to tell him the right way to act, he still struggles with the "evil inclinations" in his heart, and that sin still desires to have him, as a result, Paul comes to the conclusion that he is very grateful to have a Messiah, Jesus Christ, to help him to be victorious over the "evil inclinations" in his heart, despite the Law of Moses, as the sin that desires to have him produced in him "every kind of coveting" (Romans 7:8). At the same time, how do you prove coveting, even though they could be sinful thoughts in a person's mind or heart? Paul felt bad to have such struggles with coveting as it made him feel as a "wretched man" since he was breaking the 10th commandment, which is "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet..." (Exodus 20:17). At the same time, no human witnesses could prove Paul was guilty of coveting, other than God himself as Paul knew, which is the reason Paul says, "..as for righteousness based on the law, faultless." -- (Philippians 3:6). He was faultless because no human could prove that he was at fault for coveting in any human court....no human blamed him for coveting, even though Paul felt guilty for his inner sinful desires. That is the reason Paul praises "that which is through faith in Christ -- the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith" (Philippians 3:9). Paul's new faith in Jesus Christ and that righteousness from God has saved Paul from his guilty covetous desires and feelings.
Romans 7: 20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. This is NOT following the Way! If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off!
You totally missed the context of Romans 5-8 my friend, and “cherry-picked” chapter 7 out of its context. You’ve come to totally wrong conclusions about Romans chapter 7, which leads people away from the truth of who they are “in Christ”and who Christ is “in them”. I would encourage you to go back and carefully study the whole context of Romans 5 through 8, and you’ll see that chapter 7 is clearly and emphatically not speaking about Paul after he was born again and indwelt by the Holy Spirit. This was a description of those who personally experienced growing up under the Mosaic Law, but being “in the flesh” and not “in the Spirit”.
Hi! Thanks for commenting! As you saw in the beginning of the video, we have studied the different views on this chapter, and from what we see in the context of the whole Bible is the conclusion we make in the video. But thanks for sharing your point of view with us. 😃
@@crosspaintI would encourage you to study the actual context of Roman’s 5-8 rather than people’s opinions of chapter 7. It’s all so very clear. I pray the Holy Spirit will open the eyes of your understanding!
I thought the spirit of life in Christ has set us free from the law of sin and death. Notice that Paul mentions the Law of Moses many times in Romans 7:14-25 (six times). Christians are not under the Law of Moses, since they have died to it in Christ as he stated earlier in the chapter. Most probably Christians struggle with sin and the Law since they don't realize they are no longer under it. Paul makes it clear in Romans 8 we have been set free from this law of sin and death by the spirit if life in Christ. We are not to try and be justified by keeping the Law.
How can you twist a simple, clear gospel that even children could understand! This is what the devil's lies have done, perverting the teachings of our Lord! In Romans chapter 7 Paul is not talking about himself, but about any non-born again, carnal (with old Adamic nature) person to whom the law came, and therefore this reasoning cannot be applied to a born again person, as the context of the whole chapter and the continuation in chapter 8 confirms
Sin is no longer indwelling the believer. The Holy Spirit indwells the believer. Romans 7 describes the life of a person who lives to try to keep the Law, not the normal Christian experience.
Amen! Sin is no longer indwelling the believer. Chapter 7 does not handle the healthy state of a believer it's true, one who still lives under law and has not realized his new identity in Christ, which comes in chapter 8. 🙌
Paul says he is a slave to sin in Romans 7. And in Romans 6 he says we are no longer slaves to sin. So if when we are born again we a no longer slaves to sin.... how did Paul after he vacate a follower of Jesus on the road to Damascus somehow become a slave to sin again? You left out of your statements the very strong statement that Paul’s say he is a slave to sin? Rom 7 is Paul’s testimony and it all fits together, before Christ Paul was clearly a slave to sin as described in Romans 7. The. Salvation thank be to God who freed me.
Thank you for sharing that. In verse 1 of Romans 7 Paul says he is speaking to those who know the law (the Jews) . I believe he is putting himself in the place of a Jew who has not yet accepted Christ and is not living by the spirit. The understanding in this video, which is probably the most common, contradicts the chapter before and the chapter after. Consider Romans 6:14-16, 18, 22 (KJV) For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

TRUTH. Way to go describing a difficult (and often misunderstood) passage. Subscribed!
Thanks so much
No there is not two laws present in you. That's a lie
Regarding your point about sin, I think this 4 part Video will help:

This was fantastic! I loved the art animations! If you ever need help Id love to help! Thanks
Thanks Jonathan!
good job, guys! extremely helpful reminder
Hey Starbuckin! Thanks a lot for your feedback! It's really encouraging! 😃
This was really good. Thank you for simply explaining this. I now understand Romans 7 better. Is the workbook still available?

glad you could watch this video. God bless
May the Lord bless you real, real good!! He gave you this simplistic understanding of this most-challenging chapter...maybe in the whole Bible...if you ask me. 😊
Thank you Linda!
Maybe defining “sin” as “temptation” would be better, no?
temptation is not sin, as even Jesus was tempted but did not sin. Our old nature dies upon salvation and He now lives in us Gal 2:20. God bless ❤🙏❤
God bless you guys so much. And he'll give super wisdom and revelation of his word to you guys. Keep the good work up.👍😄
😊🙏
loved this!
Glad to hear! 😃
For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. (Rom 7:18)
If Paul is saying here he is incapable of doing what is right, how is it he is able to dictate this letter? Is he somehow trapped in his body and someone / something else is speaking?
Wanting to do good is not proof of salvation. Freedom from sin is proof
If "Wanting to do good"= "Wanting to do God´s will", then it is clearly an indication that a person has the Holy Spirit.
@@crosspaint you shouldn't be teaching, obviously doing God's will is proof you have the Holy Spirit
Amen!!! Freedom from sin is being truly saved
@crosspaint Amen! That's what it says.🙌

1 Peter 2:21-25
21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow his steps, 2 who “committed no sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth.” 23 Who, when he was cursed, did not curse back.
Take some time to understand well the way you need to approach God. Your obedience to God is the key to your deliverance from any sin that you are bound in (Hebrews 5:9).
Peace to you!
@@yestothetruth thank you for sharing this with me.
Take care.
We need story of philomon please made it 👍👍
Thank you so much for addressing just who Paul's audience was, which were Christians. How would they not be saved if he's telling them they died to the law through the body of Christ? ( Romans 7:4 NIV
So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ)
Notice also that he's calling them brothers and sisters. Lots of people read right past these very important verses. God bless you and your ministry. 🙏
Thanks a lot for the encouragement and the reminder. 😃
Please pray for me that I come to the fullness of the Gospel of Christ Jesus
Will do now.

It was just through this video, I understood, that sin is only in the body of the believer. Before, I actually believed in this having-two-identities-at-the-same-time-thing. I did not realize it watching it the first time though. But later. The video is really extremly helpful!
Super cool to hear David. May the Lord continue to help you understand the amazing liberty we have IN CHRIST.
Surely subscribing
Awesome!
Great video.....the way God taught me was through heb 4:12
We are saved in our spirit ..yes ! Its is completely sinless. But our soul is not saved or sinless .....it is constantly being saved and renewed! It is with the mind of the soul or flesh ...we live sinful lives because all of our choices reside in the will power of the soul ...hence Rom7:25
Now as sons and daughters of God we must with our own mind or (soul) ...choose to serve the mind of our born again spirit... who is guided by the Holy Spirit!!!
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." 🙏
🌍 Second, there is the world and its systems and temptations that can lead us towards sin and away from God. 1 John 2:15 states, "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." And 1 John 2:17 reminds us that "And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever."
Third, there is the flesh, the battle of the self-life and the Christ-life.

Ephesian 4:22-24"
That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness."

Romans 7 is clearly pre-conversion.
No, it's not. Read my other comments, backed up by the word of God.
So are you talking about the flesh?
Hi Bernard, could you explain that in a little
more detail, please?
That the flesh desires to sin.
Flesh can mean two things: 1) the fallen nature 2) body.
Romans 7: 20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.
This is NOT following the Way!
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off!
Hi Ryan, thanks for commenting. Have you seen also the following videos? They might help you understand the whole picture a bit better.
But Jesus is one with our bodies. Does He cohabitate with sin in our bodies?
Thank you, Christ Jesus.
Glory to Him alone
This cartoon video is great explanation thank you
Great to hear! 😃
TQ
You're welcome! 😃
Romans 7 talks about Paul when he was still a pharisee
That's what some people think. It's not what the Bible teaches.
Romans 7 is past tense in the original. Don't justify sinning, it's not what the Bible teaches
eyyyyyyyyyyyy new video :)
Yessssss, Bro
crosspaint really appreciate this romans chapter summarizations
How can you twist a simple, clear gospel that even children could understand! This is what the devil's lies have done, perverting the teachings of our Lord! In Romans chapter 7 Paul is not talking about himself, but about any non-born again, carnal (with old Adamic nature) person to whom the law came, and therefore this reasoning cannot be applied to a born again person, as the context of the whole chapter and the continuation in chapter 8 confirms
Best watch the next because this was so terribly lacking
Sin is no longer indwelling the believer. The Holy Spirit indwells the believer. Romans 7 describes the life of a person who lives to try to keep the Law, not the normal Christian experience.
Amen! Sin is no longer indwelling the believer. Chapter 7 does not handle the healthy state of a believer it's true, one who still lives under law and has not realized his new identity in Christ, which comes in chapter 8. 🙌
Is the dude in the illustration Beavis..... lol
❣
Thank you!
🤔 PRETTY GOOD. SIMPLE & TO THE POINT. I LIKE IT. UMMM... & WHO WILL WIN?... THE HOLY SPIRIT OF COURSE SILLY! HE'S ALREADY WON THE BATTLE! 🤦♂️😆
❤❤❤❤❤❤
🙏
This is a form of witchcraft that Paul is teaching, causing us to want to sin.
