We've owned a total of 7 so far. They have issues just like all the others. What has most impressed me most was their customer service. Had an '08 WRX that had an issue with the clutch pedal bracket spot welds. Vehicle had been purchased used and was out of factory warranty. Had my local dealer assess the issue to get an estimate on repair cost. Received a call from the dealer saying that Subaru North America would be contacting me which they did. Was told the repairs would be completed at no cost as a good faith repair. They could have just as easily told me to pound sand. Don't know if the other manufacturers would have done same. Wasn't an easy repair as the dash and cowling had to be removed.
Subaru of America is probably one of the best out there. They don’t play games when it comes to dealerships trying to pull fast ones, etc. SoA WILL sort them out. I will say that Subaru has been much better than any Toyota, Ford, etc I’ve owned.

You'll love it! I've had my Forester (same engine as your Crosstrek) for 8 years, and currently have 109K on the clock. It's been very reliable, and is a total beast in the snow.
I like the genuine excitement you had when showing off the crosstrek. The crosstrek is no rock crawler, but itll take places that you didnt think it would.
I’ve owned 2 Jeep Wranglers and a huge stack of Quadratec catalogs. My son and I had a philosophy about Jeep repair…don’t replace, upgrade all broken/worn parts. I traded my last Jeep for a truck. The truck, 4X4, has a Hemi and gets better gas mileage than the Wrangler. You made a wise move going from Jeep to Subaru.
Coming from 2 Jeep GC to a Crosstrek. I have no regret. Much cheaper on my wallet when it comes to gas. And not to mention i spent less time at the mechanics.
Great looking vehicle. I bet it will pan out well for you and your family. I just bought an Acura MDX for my wife yesterday and gave her Toyota Highlander to our daughter. I can't imagine taking the MDX anywhere near a gravel road though.
You know the ride height might be higher in the jeep but the 2024 wrangler sport has a ground clearance of 9.7" and the wilderness is 9.3" less than a half inch difference.
Best car that we ever purchased is the subaru crosstrek. Great on gas, comfortable, great offroad and top 5 in safety. Subaru also was just named the most reliable car brand on the road.
I would have opt for the Forester wilderness myself. Then, you’d have the larger vehicle your daughter could still drive and the size you wouldn’t complain as much about. Otherwise, a Subaru for a Jeep is ALWAYS a good trade off.
@ These are all good reasons than to choose the Crosstrek. I bought an outback last year and had to decide between the three models. They all have there advantages. Good choice.
I had a 2008 JKU. Transmission went out at 90k and had replaced. Engine needed to be replaced at 121k miles and had to let the Jeep go. thanks for helping make my decision on getting the Crosstrek as my next daily driver.
I think you made a solid choice. (Though I currently have a truck) I've had several Jeeps, so I'm not a "Jeep hater." _But-_ we had a snow storm last week, and the following day I moved some vehicles that got plowed in at my job. One of them happened to be a Crosstrek. The thing drove as if it was on bobcat tracks.. Totally unfazed by any snowy/icy obstacle. No need to switch into 4WD. Crosstrek must make an incredible daily driver adventure vehicle.
I bought an Outback touring XT less than a year ago. The only thing that stopped me from buying a wilderness, was I like the additional options that were available with the touring XT. I sat in a Crosstrek, and it was very nice to sit in. It just lacked too many options for me, even in the limited model.
I've had my '24 Crosstrek Wilderness since October of '23. Currently have 35000 miles on it and haven't had a hiccup with it. I've camped with it, hauled massive amounts of fishing gear along with a 2000lb boat, (3500lb towing), and have taken it out on numerous trails in both Florida and Georgia. This is my first Subaru I've ever owned; have had multiple large trucks, tuner cars, and even my 2nd favorite vehicle (to my Crosstrek now) a '97 TJ wrangler. The Crosstrek is a Swiss-Army knife. When my warranty is up I'm planning on slapping on a turbo kit for a boost in power. That's pretty much all she really needs. The Crosstrek will grow on you for sure. It's become my favorite vehicle thus far!
I did the same thing as you, except I traded a 2014 Jeep Cherokee for a 2024 Gyser Blue Crosstrek Wilderness. I'm still getting used to the smaller size compared to the Jeep. The pros I've noticed. Improved fuel economy, superior headlights, and the automatic brake hold I love. Cons, the heated steering wheel non-existent between 10 and 2. Only the sides. At highway speeds, the wheel feels twitchy. I guess I'll see how I feel after 2 years when my lease is up
Good choice. The CrossTrek is a great allrounder and great in the snow if you live in snow country. They could probably get rid of the complicated dash... Your cell phone can do everything now. I wish they still had the manual transmission. The gold colour should match the gold colour from Sparco Wheels.
I've thought about trading my Golf R for this. I love hatchbacks. I hear a lot of good things about these Subarus. Going from a Jeep to a Crosstrek is definitely more extreme.
Our 2022 Outback Wilderness is a BEAST in the snow! We absolutely LOVE it because it will literally go anywhere you need to go. Handles snow like it’s on dry pavement!💪🏼😎
I was skeptical about trading in my 2001 Chevy Blazer for a new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek. I've owned the Blazer since new in March of 2001 and it's provided years of driving enjoyment. I'm still getting used to all the newness of my Crosstrek and am very happy with my decision. Have a great drive everyone and I'll see you on the journey 😊
Bought a Crosstrek five years ago. The Eyesight system has helped avoid collisions and the symmetrical all wheel drive is great in rain and snow. Very reliable, no problems at all. Just bought two new Foresters to replace our old Honda sedan and Nissan truck. Your Crosstrek will keep you and your daughter safe on the road.
Reliability. This is exactly why I purchased a 4Runner instead of a jeep for my daily driver. It is a shame really but since Jeep got rid of the 4.0 I6 motor they want way too much money for a crappy motor (both the 2.0 and the Pentastar V6) and drivetrain. This is also why Jeep is introuble. Still have my trail rig with my trusty 4.2 I6 (76CJ7) but I think you made a wise decision.
I bought my Subaru in 2021 a Forester touring. I’m planning on keeping this vehicle a good long time, it’s been very reliable and it gets around in the snow as well as other 4 wheel drive vehicles I’ve owned and it gets decent mileage.
I have this exact same one and it can haul up to 3,500 lbs due to the extra cooling for the transmission, it won’t overheat. The tires are great, but if you upgrade them to snow tires they work even better.
We had a Subaru wagon, and it never let us down. My wife used the Subaru, I had 2 Jeeps, A Larado hardtop, 6cyc 4spd, and a Wrangler hardtop, 6cyc 4 spd that had a plow.. The newer Subaru are not as heavy as the older, but wil go. Do they still have the boxer motor? That was a plus for us. Good luck, enjoy, it gives a safe ride.
You can turn off the annoying beeping for lane change. Spend some time reading the manual and you’ll find a lot more things that you can change to your liking. To my knowledge none of the Crosstreks come with electric seats but at least they’re heated.
@@guylr7390 The heat was really on the seat when I test drive it... couldn't initially find the switch...a bit uncomfortable and embarrassing at the time.
"Which is better?" I would say it's whatever vehicle fits your needs at the time you need to get one. I did have a Subaru once (2014 Crosstrek XV) but my Jeep (2021 Gladiator Rubi) meets my needs presently. -- BR
I bought the same vehicle, even same color. My first Subaru. Been 6 months now and I'm in love with almost everything about it. I loved my 2006 Wrangler but as I'm getting older, I just didn't really enjoy the ride anymore. Enjoy!!
That car in that trim and color is Subaru's best looking car, in my opinion. I tested Outback and Forester a while back. They just didn't quite have the driving experience I want for my highway commute. If I had a shorter commute or regularly needed awd, I would probably have a Subaru. Congrats on your purchase.
The stuffed animals in the corners of the windshield create opaque as well as reflected blind spots that are important when turning into parking places between cars. The windshield is for clearly seeing your path of travel, not a display shelf.
I'm going to assume those are his daughters. My sister does the same in her car and it's so annoying and frankly, dangerous. But it's just one of those things that women do that make them different from men, like screaming anytime there's a fight or something off. I'm surprised we didn't see any hair scrunchies on the floor or wrapped around the shifter or directional.
I went from a 4Runner to a red CTW just like yours. At my first service, while waiting I test drove an Outback Onyx XT. Told them to keep the Crosstrek. I love my Outback and don't miss the Toyota. I never really needed all that truck anyway.
Those Crosstreks are great vehicles. We have the ‘outdoor’ edition 2021 with the 2.5 litre engine and it has been an absolutely outstanding and reliable vehicle. The awd system is very safe and confidence inspiring. Fuel economy is really good too, ours has averaged 7.3 litres per 100 kms. Currently 76,000 kms on it now.
You're going to fall in love with the Subie experience Jim! When that snow storm hits, please make an update on how much better it is :) haha. great videos as always! Great review :)
The Crosstrek is great, I have a 2024 premium trim. I do wish I got the wilderness though because of the bigger engine, towing ability, and better towing. I do wish Subaru would bring back the Baja or make another small truck/UTE to compete with the maverick and Santa Cruz.
I had a jeep and for awhile i was thinking about getting rid of it, its a gas guzzler. Then i hit a deer one day and decided to scrap it then got a Subaru and never regretted it. Got the outback touring, planning on adding the crosstrek soon this summer.
I’ve never owned a Subaru personally but when it came time to get my son his first car. We bought him a 2015 legacy. Thing is nice. The awd is phenomenal and I’ve had Jeep Tacomas , tundras. Ridgeline was awesome. But awd is the best daily driver vehicle
I did the same thing. Gladiator to CTW. I didn’t want to but economy, job and needs changed. Definitely miss my jeep but still happy with the subi so far. Good luck
I absolutely love jeep wranglers, but I chose my Subaru Crosstrek limited (2020) at the time as the best all rounder for my needs. Aside from hardcore off-roading, the Subaru does everything else better. Better fuel mileage, easier on tires, etc. the AWD is truly full time and the best AWD on the market. Comfortable and I personally love how it sounds like an old bi-plane in cold startup due to the boxer engine 😂 The biggest downside is you need to keep all tires about the same. If you get a unfixable damage to one tire, you’ll need to get a whole new set so the tire tread is similar in depth. Otherwise it will wreak havoc on the AWD system. Changing spark plugs isn’t bad but it can be aggravating to get the driver side rear (the right socket and extension will make it a super easy job though!). Overall, I think you’ll be very happy with your Subaru! I’m fortunate to also have a Tesla Model Y Performance…and I honestly reach for the Subaru more often than not! 600Hp is fun but I just love the slow and easy going nature of the Subaru! I’ve taken this thing all up and down the west coast, up in the winter mountains of Washington, off-roading the open deserts of Nevada in summertime, etc…never skipped a beat! Forgot to add that they are legendary on safety for a reason! I’m convinced that Colin McRae (famous Subaru rally car racer) crashed all the time and Subaru took that crash data then applied it to their factory built production vehicles. There’s a reason Subaru has earned their reputation of safety and you can rest assured that you and your family will be in good hands
something i just learned with my 2020 outback i got about a year ago is that you can change climate settings with voice commands. unsure if you were told that or not
I have owned two Subarus in the past. Both great cars that had TONS of miles (nearly 300k when sold), and dealth with my abuse in the Alaskan winters, from ski trails, beaches, and of course ice racing with friends. One was a manual and another was an auto. I've always wanted a WRX since they came out right after graduating high school, I am seriously considering one right now, but IF I can find the extra money, I was thinking an Outback XT is a much better choice. With that said, I would seriously look at a Crosstrek or even a Forester. The Forester has amazing seats and fantastic ergonomics, my wife is only 4'11" and the Forester fit her prefectly and way better than the Outback, but since this would be my new car, I do not have to worry too much about that I suppose. Great choice!!!
Deer can hear your car coming without the whistles - the low frequency sound made by tires on the road carries further than engine sound and much much further than highly questionable deer whistles.
I have a 2015 jeep renegade trailhawk. I love it. I actually sat in one of these cross trek vehicles years ago when I was contemplating trading in my renegade for the so called more reliable Subaru brand but man this thing is small!!! I couldn’t get in comfortably! It’s way smaller than the renegade. Going from a wrangler to a Subaru I would think the outback would be the choice to go with. I test drove the outback and I actually liked it. Just not a fan of the cvt. My renegade is still going strong. I wish they hadn’t discontinued it. And they went with a turbo engine toward the end. I have the regular 4 engine. I would have bought another renegade in an instant.
There is a video of a whole team of 2013 bone stock Crosstrek’s crossing a tundra in Iceland driving through ice filled rivers 😂 even the guide in a fully modded Nissan with the big huge snow tires on it was impressed.
Well, depends on insurance and safety concerns. Subarus are small, and when giving a sibling a car you want the comfort of knowing that if there’s a collision Jeep and Ford automobiles have very good safety and passenger survival capabilities than most other brands. Small cars are great, but, you want something for a relative that’s as safe to drive on public roads as possible. Seen too often many videos of small cars and passengers get wasted on those ‘highway pileups’. But, this is just my opinion.
I traded a Grand Cherokee Trailhawk for a CT Wilderness. No regrets other than I miss the quadra lift pneumatic suspension that allowed me to lift the Jeep when going off road at the push of a button.
You do realize you basically bought the smallest Subaru, there’s 3 larger ones. We’re on our 9th Subaru, great vehicles, their awd is the best in snow! Tips to keep one a long time. Change oil at 1k miles, then every 5k after that. Have dealer Change the CVT fluid every 40k miles. Some don’t want to do it, they say it’s lifetime. The good dealers change it without hassle because they know it gets dirty over time. Also every 30-50k miles have the front & rear differentials gear oil changed. We’ve had almost zero problems over the years. They hold their value & you see very old ones on the road for a reason.
the 1k mi oil change is not necessary. Just stick to 5k mi oci despite Subaru saying 6k. use a 5w-20 if you can vs 0w-20 (fewer friction modifiers in the 5w-20 oil and you won't notice a difference). use Subaru filters, they are cheap enough and can be found for less than $10ea. I'm a big fan of low SAPS (ACEA C3) oil for my WRX, but it is tough to find as it is geared more toward Euro cars and stores don't really stock "fringe" oils. 30k mi front/rear diff oil changes (use the Subaru gear oil $13/bottle).
I bought the crosstrek one below the wilderness last month. A thing I ran into was what I call the 3000.00 curse. If I wanted the wilderness, extra 3000.00, or same non wilderness car with bigger engine, (mines a 2.0), 3000.00 more. Or an Outback, (mid grade), 3000.00, so for an extra 3 grand could have gotten either of those 3 choices, but I’m kind of poor, so I couldn’t afford it. But overall I like the car.
Though Crosstrek vs Wrangler review is apples to oranges, you made some very fair comparisons and observations, I enjoyed watching this. I'll be looking forward to watching for updated videos to see what your opinion is as you get more miles on the odometer.
@@LordCryptid I'd love to hit the trails by your cabin. ;) As you noted in your video, your Jeep has more power and probably better clearance, as well as 4WD, so I guess I'd take that into consideration when you do the comparison. But those little Subarus are pretty remarkable cars, very capable for reasonable off pavement operation....but I certainly wouldn't attempt some of the places I went with my '95 Ranger 4WD while grouse hunting and trout fishing in northern WI, UP, and MN.
You said you're gonna put bikes in there. I recommend to install a 2" EcoHitch from Torklift Central and Quikr Quik Rack Mach 2 bike rack. It will be expensive but so worth it.
While I hope you and your family never need to find out the hard way, the Crosstrek is a very safe vehicle in an accident (and also at avoiding them) and an IIHS best pick. Make sure to keep up with the maintenance schedule (especially the cvt related parts) and it'll last.
My Jeep Cherokee has been a money pit and continues to be undriveable and a waste of money. Been leaning towards an Outback but liking the manual version CrossTrek. Please keep us posted.
I loved my Jeep, but I started a job having to drive twisty mountain roads in the dark, my Jeep was a manual trans, and the halogen headlights were shit. Traded it for a Crosstrek Sport, my commute is much more enjoyable.
Traded my 24 Honda crv touring hybrid for this exact 24 Subaru crosstrek wilderness. Red look good on it. Have 600 miles on it so far. Such a fun little rig. Hopefully they don't sell a lot of the red ones in my city. So far I have only seen one. Wish they had a bronze rims for it as a factory option. Are you planning on a overlanding build for it? Method wheels. RTT bumpers rock sliders skid plates rear locker ect ect ect. . Oh that my plan.
You are changing worlds - suv to car, 2012 to 2024, Chrysler to Subaru, American to Japanese - the horn says it all . But if you embrace it you will love it. @@WhipTastee Toyotas and Hondas are good too but pricier

This is a great video of someone discovering common sense.
The horn made me lol, you should replace that with something ridiculous haha
Ridiculouser!
i love the way the wilderness edition looks on all the subaru models that it comes with
You'll love it!
Not dumb at all ! The cheapest Subaru is easily more reliable than the best Jeep. And in snow ? NO contest.
I tested the Forester and liked the ride of the Crosstrek. The price was also a factor.
@
These are all good reasons than to choose the Crosstrek. I bought an outback last year and had to decide between the three models. They all have there advantages. Good choice.
That’s what I have - 2024 Forester Wilderness. Love it !
I had a 2008 JKU. Transmission went out at 90k and had replaced. Engine needed to be replaced at 121k miles and had to let the Jeep go. thanks for helping make my decision on getting the Crosstrek as my next daily driver.
I had a 2011 JKU. Engine blew at 60K miles, and transmission replaced at 60.5K miles. I went with the 4Runner, never looked back.
4runner made in Japan still
I think you made a solid choice.
I guess I'll see how I feel after 2 years when my lease is up
I treaded my 2022 Jeep WILLYS WITH ONLY 2500K miles for a 2024 WILDERNESS
I’m happy with my decision
@@lempira69 Wow.
That Crosstrek looks BAD ASS
Good choice. The CrossTrek is a great allrounder and great in the snow if you live in snow country. They could probably get rid of the complicated dash... Your cell phone can do everything now. I wish they still had the manual transmission. The gold colour should match the gold colour from Sparco Wheels.
I 'm a avid Subaru owner since 2017 and love my crosscheck
I've thought about trading my Golf R for this. I love hatchbacks. I hear a lot of good things about these Subarus. Going from a Jeep to a Crosstrek is definitely more extreme.
Why not! nice looking rig-Congrats.
Wife and son both have a crosstrek great for driving conditions here in Washington love them.
Thanks for the video… enjoyed it.
We're on our ninth Subie. Trouble-free, worry-free excellence.
Boxer with the Wilderness engine and about 600 pounds lighter than the Forester. I will only pull light things...mostly a bike rack and a kayak.

Looks so good in red. Switching ti Japanese is never a wrong option.
I bought the same vehicle, even same color. My first Subaru. Been 6 months now and I'm in love with almost everything about it. I loved my 2006 Wrangler but as I'm getting older, I just didn't really enjoy the ride anymore.
Enjoy!!
If they made the rear seat roof a bit taller it would be perfection
Wranglers suck. If you must own one then buy a used 2 door preferably manual as a weekend driver. Its the only way.
Good idea.
@brianhorn2527 I coach women's cross country. My Jeep had many hair ties wherever they could hang.
tell that to EVERY Jeep (Wrangler) owner who has 30 ducks displayed along the dash of some sort of "badge of honor" because they got it at a Jeep meet
I went from a 4Runner to a red CTW just like yours. At my first service, while waiting I test drove an Outback Onyx XT. Told them to keep the Crosstrek. I love my Outback and don't miss the Toyota. I never really needed all that truck anyway.
My wife loves her Outback.
I would NEVER own a Chrysler product, they're junk. I would take a Subaru over ANY American manufacturer vehicle.
We have a Subaru Forester 2022 and love it! It’s reliable and fun to drive on long trips.
Bro went from a piece of ass shit to Ice Cream cake. I have a wilderness outback. You did good 👍🏻
I had a jeep and for awhile i was thinking about getting rid of it, its a gas guzzler.
Good luck
@@sassinator21 Thank you.
I do like the reactive headlights. (On the cross trek, non wilderness one)
Comfortable and I personally love how it sounds like an old bi-plane in cold startup due to the boxer engine 😂
The biggest downside is you need to keep all tires about the same.
Great Dad!
i did the same move and it so much more comfortable than the wrangler
something i just learned with my 2020 outback i got about a year ago is that you can change climate settings with voice commands. unsure if you were told that or not
I have owned two Subarus in the past.
From pure automotive crap to shining gold.
Nice job! 👍
More practical drive. AWD gives you more security on road and is easier to drive since you do not have to think to switch to 4 x 4. Good choice.
Very good move ! 👍🏼
There is a video of a whole team of 2013 bone stock Crosstrek’s crossing a tundra in Iceland driving through ice filled rivers 😂 even the guide in a fully modded Nissan with the big huge snow tires on it was impressed.
Now I have to find this video!
I got last year's model at a discounted rate (thank you, former student) and opted to lessen the radio, etc., for a similar reason.
I got the green sport. My dream car!
Heat vents are under the front seat.
as in just about every other car in production today..
Though Crosstrek vs Wrangler review is apples to oranges, you made some very fair comparisons and observations, I enjoyed watching this. I'll be looking forward to watching for updated videos to see what your opinion is as you get more miles on the odometer.
@@gerardhaines8119 I want you hit the trails near my cabin. I am used to them in the Jeep so it should be a fair comparison.
...meant to say "to"...
I am going to add a hitch and use my existing bike rack. That is the plan so far.
its absolutely worth it
Subaru Crosstreks are great vehicles. I had one for 10 years, no real issues. Traded for a Toyota Tacoma because my needs changed.
While I hope you and your family never need to find out the hard way, the Crosstrek is a very safe vehicle in an accident (and also at avoiding them) and an IIHS best pick.
Make sure to keep up with the maintenance schedule (especially the cvt related parts) and it'll last.
You are a genius for that. In 2025 and still driving a jeep unless you live in the woods is not very efficient.
The Subaru will still get me to my off-grid property. My wife's Outback has no trouble.
My Jeep Cherokee has been a money pit and continues to be undriveable and a waste of money. Been leaning towards an Outback but liking the manual version CrossTrek. Please keep us posted.
You got the right toy
You're not dumb at all. I think about moving on from my jl wrangler to a Subaru all the time.
Make sure to change the cvt fluid every 50 thousand miles.
2003 Forester is my daily driver in the Winter
I loved my Jeep, but I started a job having to drive twisty mountain roads in the dark, my Jeep was a manual trans, and the halogen headlights were shit. Traded it for a Crosstrek Sport, my commute is much more enjoyable.
@@scottcalhoun5524 I added better lights to my Jeep. I have yet to drive a long distance or anywhere fun.
You weren't happy with your CRV Hybrid?
I had to trade my Wrangler in due to my bad back (disabled vet), for a 2024 Outback Wilderness
My leg reconstruction made it a chore to climb up into mine for about two years. I am stubborn.
You are changing worlds - suv to car, 2012 to 2024, Chrysler to Subaru, American to Japanese - the horn says it all . But if you embrace it you will love it.
If you want a Jeep and drive a car you will be disappointed.
I did same going from a Tacoma to RAV4 and the more I drive it, more I love it.
Not a pickup, but a way better driving suv and in real world terms, twice as good mileage.
Wife has a outback and great car……
That horn sounds like it may be a bad connection my 2015 outback sounds normal
