I'm blown away with the build quality and the tones of the player tele. Been using it as my main for a year now and it still does it for me everyday. Haven't needed to swap to pickups, tuners or the pots or anything really, beside the stings of course
I played one through a Marshall and I liked it better than humbucker guitars for heavy stuff. I love that almost icepick in the ear that can easily be changed down with the tone knob. Don’t care what anyone says Tele’s aren’t just for country 🤘🏻
Teles really do everything! Using a Tele side-by-side with a humbucker guitar, it's like you get a detail brush in the Tele and a wide brush in whatever has the humbucker. Creates a massively thick sound that's also detailed and articulate.
absolutely agree, i was misinformed when i was first learning about guitars, thought i wouldn’t like a tele, but i bought my first tele last year and it’s the most versatile guitar i own!!
I have a question I just bought this guitar and the tension in the strings is crazy I can’t even bend the strings I put 9 gauge strings adjusted the action (my guitar tech did that ) and I’m still getting a crazy amount of fret buzz. Do you think I got a bad piece ??
So how is it? I love mine but it needed a lot of adjustment. Neck relief, intonation, bridge height and pickup height were all over the place. And I added a 3 string tree the stop the g string ringy noise behind the nut. Now it plays better than my 95 American Strat!
Its a great guitar man. Im mainly a les paul player and even i love the sound and playability of a tele (besides the neck, personally I like a slim neck). Here's your sign to go for it. Even the squier teles are great and they're a great first electric guitar depending on your genre of choice.
Have had mine for about 6 months (3 tone burst with pau ferro frettboard, ss), fantastic guitar, a lot for the money. I didn't have to but i upgraded to fender locking tuners, just because it's really easy to restring and tuning stability due to no winds required around the polls. Thanks for the review.
My first Fender is a 2002 MIM Tele in Agave Blue. I’ve had it for 17 years, and it looks/sounds almost identical to this. It’s genuinely an authentic, prized possession.
2002 must've been a good year for Fender. I just got my first American telecaster 2 color sunburst from 2002 and it is absolutely gorgeous in sight and sound.
I own the single coil version in sonic red and it sounds and plays like a guitar 3 times it's asking price. Fender have knocked it out the park with the new player series. Thank you for making such high quality instruments obtainable for so many musicians out there! Don't even get me started on how good the Vintera series looks hahaha
I've had my head turned slightly by the Vintera Series, but I know the Player Series Telecaster in Sonic Red is the one I'll go for (I think! lol). I already own a Player Series Stat so I know how good these instruments are. The satin neck is a must which meant if I did buy from the Vintera Series it would have to be modified Tele. Whichever way I go, great guitars and love what Fender do!
Vintera's are nice, but they are, imo, priced too high. If I'm up near 900 usd, I'd probably just go for an American Performer or a used American Special, which is what I have. For a Mexican Tele, the Player Series is by far the best value. They are great guitars.
Great! A Telecaster with two Humbucker Pickup's and you can play it like two single Coil's! Very good! I always like the Stratocaster more, specially with two single and one Humbucker but that's a very good Idea ! ✌👍👍
This was overall a good review, but I was a bit disappointed because the humbucker Tele should have been played clean, which it never was. This would have provided a good comparison with the clean tone of the single coil version.
The one I got was terrible out of the box. Got it brand new. It had several quality control issues. Heavy string buzz, pickup switch rubber/plastic tip just falls off easily, volume knob/pot feels like it scrapes the base and doesn't roll smooth. Even had a fret inlay that looks like it was initially misplaced so there's a circle imprint on one of the non-inlayed frets. Not sure if I just got a bad apple but it was definitely disappointing. I ended up returning it to the retailer. Kinda sucks coz I was definitely looking forward to owning a Tele.
is there a difference in sound between singel coil and humbuckers in singelcoild mode? Seems to me that the hb version can do both wich makes it the better choice in terms of versatility.
Man my heart broke when I saw the HH style doesn't come in white. I absolutely love all white telecasters. Guess I'm going with the SS style. Still awesome regardless :)
Mine is the best guitar I’ve had in my hands ever (besides the Performer Strat which I’d love to own). I prefer it over the Vintera series or American Pro, but that’s just me. The tones, the playability, and the looks (mine is artic white with maple neck, it’s so pretty), it has got it all! 😱
This would be a good go to guitar for several songs the Red Hot Chili Peppers play; higher ground being one of those songs. I can be a little more precise on the higher tones yet keep good tone during the rhythm of that song.
Got the all-black one last September. It's awesome. The one little problem I have, though, is that the plastic cover of the pick up selector has gotten loose.
I just got mine from Thomann and I have mixed feelings about the guitar. The paint job is flawed. I have noticed some darker stained spots underneath the surface finish on my Butterscotch version. There are some minor hitches with the material between neck and body. I also noticed strings aren't perfectly parallel to the neck what makes the higher positions on the treble strings more difficult to play as thex are almost below the neck. I prefer matt fretboards but that's me personally. Bending and sliding on glossy boards is really different from unfinished necks. Other than that the sound is great and I like the feel of the bridge and switch. The tuners are clean and work neatlessly.
Yes. You should. If you don’t have $700 for a players series, look into the higher end Squires. OR look at the used market. You can find some killer deals there. Either way, get a guitar and start playing!

I would love to put a single coil sized humbucker in the bridge with coil tap that would enable me to go to heavier rock but not lose that high end twang needed for old school blues. Any suggestions?
Honestly, I dont get why the Stratocaster is more popular. The Telecaster was the first Fender electric (Broadcaster), and it has a body shape that is more iconic than any other guitar. It also only has 2 pickups for simplicity. In my opinion I prefer it becuase I like bluesy neck pickups and twangy bridge pickups.
I think players like Hendrix, Clapton and SRV had a big influence on the appeal of a Strat. While it was likely just as common in popular music, I don't think the Tele had as many big name artists it was synonymous with.
