Rossi seems to make some pretty reliable old school guns. I liked the RS22 Plinkster rifle. That thing eats everything is pretty tough and is cheap as heck. I wouldn't doubt this Brawler runs no matter what. Fun range toy but something that can shoot multiple ammo
After watching this I think I might want to get one myself ain't nothing wrong with just a fun gun and I think the shockwave grip looks better on it too.
Yes, most definitely need a full in-depth video on the brawler and everything you did to it. No idea why this popped up for me as i have never even knew about this gun. But i need it and you earned a subscriber.
Great video. The Brawler looks so much better with that furniture upgrade, wow. I might have to snag one just because of that revised look, really hope Rossi/Taurus makes that standard. I also appreciate you going through the various ammo types, saves us a lot of time and money. I hope you review more dumb guns, that's my favorite topic
Oh, I definitely need to adapt a raptor grip to mine. Edit: You uh, you know Rossi specifically warns to NOT shoot Hornady Triple Defense in it, right?
No I didn't see that anywhere in my manual. I saw the do not use slugs warning, but the FTX is .41 cal copper jacketed projectile so it's not the normal slug you'd find in a shotgun
i have a custom over under .410 (personal gunsmithing project) in my truck as a survival gun, similar layout to the shockwave grip brawler but all wooden furniture and possibly longer barrel... though i shoot .454 Casull out of it on a regular basis lol, the smooth bore doesn't bother me much
I want to get four of these, get a custom chest rig, strap them in some sling holsters, and walk around with a pegleg as I call people "mischievous land-lubbers".
I really want one of these for the stupidest reason I have a tism obsession with mark "chopper" Reid and he carried a sawn off single shot 410 and this is the closest legal option I can find 😂
0000 Buck engages the rifling, allowing for good patterning. I learned this testing my Circuit Judge. Also, I found some .45 Colt loads that did not seem to mind that jump to the rifling. I think...Federal soft points worked well...I think. Been a while since I did my testing, ha. I agree though in not the most practical gun. I mean Circuit Judge has a full stock and long barrel, so that works just fine, but this thing not nearly as much...but hey it is cheap so that is good.
@@Jolly0331 That makes sense. I saw the Defender. Kind of like it, but still really just mostly a fun gun as well, ha. No big deal though. If I had unlimited funds, I would have tons of useless guns.
@@Jolly0331 Well I mean when it comes to patterning, the standard judge is really garbage. Like a special type of bad, haha. So I guess you are right and I had the data all along. The barrel length really makes a big difference. I have something similar to that new judge in legnth. About 10" Made in...Ducktown. I am sure you seen them before. Whole host of junk quality guns that sold under whoever bought the left over parts, ha.
I also want a Brawler but I have no real reason why. It looks like a sci-fi pirate gun, and that's my reason. If I could own any .410, it's going to be something cheap.
I too love dumb/cheap guns (or cheap/dumb guns) and was "first mouse" on the brawler. I pretty much agree with your assessment, they are both cool and not really good for anything. In my mind the biggest deficiency is that they aren't really strong enough for a diet of Ruger/TC only level reloads. If they could it would be a much better gun. The Contender/Encore in .45lc/.410 has been a "gun guy" gun for years, and it would be great to have another cheap alternative (CVA makes something similar, but they're pretty difficult to find in the wild)
pretty fun little firearm. that shockwave handle is pretty clever lol, hope the saddle issues get worked out. i just saw Inrangetv struggle in one brutality with a shotgun shell that worked fine in another setting. Problem was the shells had absorbed enough ambient humidity and swelled up. definitely something to consider if you have to deal with poor storage conditions and cheaper ammo. Wondering if you had a similar issue or something else.
@@Jolly0331 I suppose it wouldn't be as simple as just shrinking the parts (which would still not be an insubstantial amount of work). You'd have to adjust some of the spring tensions too, since a .410 (or .45 Colt!) isn't going to eject with the same force as a 20 gauge.
@@Jolly0331 I kind of suspect the actual size is less of an issue than whether everything lines up where it needs to. 20 gauge is only 2/10ths an inch larger (bore diameter, at least) than .410, so if everything is positioned correctly that things _could_ go directly into the breach, then it might just be a matter of filling in some of the void so that the shells sit straighter in the magazine and don't move around as much, and from there you just try springs of different size and tension until you find the ones you need. That's how it is on paper, at least. All kinds of things look simple on paper.
I wonder just how strong the lockup is on this ...and how strong the judge is. The .410 length chamber and ability to use .45 colt means there is a secret third option to test remotely . The .454 casull. Now if this is as strong as a contender or encore or even the ol H&R NEF handi rifle, it should be no issue.
I love that modded version, i wanna try to do that to mine now. To me the gun kinda reminds of a modern take on like a trapper pistol or mountain man pistol. I have adapters for mine to shoot stuff like 38 special, 9mm, and 22lr. But i have seen the federal triple defense 2.5 inch shells and the hornady critical defense with the 41 cal slugs work very well for me. I ended up pullin the rear sight out of mine and sight through the pic rail, painted the front sight, to use in lower light and stuff since i use mine as a woods gun alot now. Works great for snakes and other things if needed, but also not bad at all on a trap line with the 22lr adapters. Good video bud, would love to see more on it, god bless from ole Carolina.
That looks awesome. You'd probably have a decent side business of making pirate guns if you wanted to. Haha. Im considering getting a Taurus Judge Defender and/or a TNW Aero Survival Rifle in 45. I don't really have a serious need for them but they look fun like this, but a little more expensive.
Derringers are the dumb guns I like the most, I wouldnt buy one of these, BUT if Santa brought me one for Christmas Id be excited to have it and take it to the range.
You don't fire any kind of .410 loads from that short, rifled barrel except pellets that will stack single file in the hull, you testicle! Anything from .31 to .36 call will stack fine in a stretch wad and make tiny 4-pellet patterns at 30yds. because the spin imparted only stabilizes them. When you have two or more pellets per stack, the rifling will turn the gun into a shot sprinkler. Birdshot is right out!
......modern day flintlock pistol vibes for all your pirate needs
"Julian , this is a pirates gun!"
I would totally daily carry this if I can find one for sub 300, this is based, it's like a modern contender dueling pistol

Why can’t they make a double barrel version that would be awesome
I was just about to say this. Just for the "Road Warrior" roleplay I'd love a double barrel, break open shotgun.
We need a single shot 45-70 brawler....
I was thinking same think 45/70 410 combo
Yep. Call it the ATDK.

I can see a brawler as a work truck gun. A kit gun to stow away in a location you only know with a few supplies.
Wish it was 454 casull which would allow 45 colt and 410
I think it would be cool if they made it in 357 magnum.

Ive actually looked at a 3d printed design, but it was setup for 20 gauge. I'd have to do a lot of work to make it a 410
