Why We Made "Easter is for Atheists": • Why We Made "Easter is...
    WORDS//
“What would make you believe in God?” I asked my friend at the end of a drink,
He didn’t spend a second to think,
He’d been asked before I figure,
Had his answer on a hair-trigger:
“IF God,” he said, “would reconfigure the stars in the sky,
to spell the 10 commandments on high,
    THEN I would believe.”
I don’t know how you’d conceive of divine proof,
here would you set your sights?
My friend set his to galactic heights.
But I asked: “Would you like this Almighty Meddler,
    shuffling nebula,
simply to tell you: “Thou Shalt Not.”
    Back he shot:
    “I could never like God,
    But if he flexed somehow,
    I’d grudgingly bow.”
I said “NOW we agree. We both opt out of the God that you doubt.”
But have you considered what Easter’s about?
There’s this Doubter called Thomas - a little like you,
He too had a TEST. He said: “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands,
and touch the wound where the spear was rammed,
    I will not believe.”
    He soon received his demand.
The butchered God arose to stand,
    and stretch again his hands,
    And say: “Look!
See! Reach out! Believe and do not doubt!”
And Thomas knew, THIS is the FOUNT.
NOW he was seeing the Source of all being,
for HERE was life poured out.
He was spent for the cursed, he was parched for the thirsty.
And spilled every drop of his blood.
Of COURSE Thomas cried-seeing hands and side-“YOU are my Lord and my God.”
So in the end, I say to my friend: HERE is the faith-giving sight-
    Maimed and magnificent. Wounded, omnipoten
A warrior back from the fight.
    Do you have suspicions
    Forget cosmic magicians;
    See this battle-scarred conquering Knight.
You look for God, but you’ll fail to see if you raise your gaze to the stars,
Easter would teach us to lower our sights: his story he writes in the scars.

"His story he writes in the scars". I really like that. I often think that its difficult to understand God without looking at the life of Christ. He's this huge presence who created all things and through whom we have our being. But he seems far away. Through the life, miracles, words and ways of Christ, God seems so much closer to us. His atoning death and resurrection make him very personal to me. The fact that the disciples went from hiding away behind closed doors to each dying a martyr's deaths in his name means one thing. They saw the resurrected Christ on easter day and the weeks afterward. Jesus is IMMANUEL. He is the risen living God, and through him we each have hope if we accept his saving grace. Happy Easter everyone.

There is insufficient evidence for anything supernatural, no demons, ghosts and gods. You have not supplied one shred of evidence. You are welcome to your opinion based on faith, belief without evidence. But it is only an opinion without evidence.

Even if they are not sincere in saying "Christ Is King" that phrase is probably the greatest memetic weapon the liberty-movement could ask for. If Christ Is King, then implicitly no earthly ruler is. The phrase exposes and defeats everyone who doesn't believe it.

  • @fuddam

There is a bigger question: what would it take to ACCEPT Christ into your life? Belief is not enough. Satan believes Christ is who He claims, but he does not accept Christ.
We know one day every knee will bow, every tongue will confess Christ's lordship, *but* not all will accept Christ. That is the real question. It gets away from the demand for proof, to reflection on how one will react to Christ revealing Himself to us each individually.

Passover, killing all the Egyptian first born (lovely) and the first born of animals. So many innocents killed. Why the blood on the doors? Surely God would have known where the Israelites lived. Why kill a lamb, just use a flag. So much unnecessary violence from a kind, loving and understanding God.

The reason I became an atheist is because as soon as I began questioning and critically examining what I believe, I came to realise the entire belief system is not based on evidence nor rational thought, and so it's something I could not continue to accept as truth if I'm to think logically and base my beliefs on what can be known and demonstrated. I have absolutely nothing against the idea of a supreme deity who seeks a personal relationship with everyone and I think it would be great if it were true, but just wishing something to be true doesn't make it so. I am still completely open to the idea if I can experience empirical evidence of God or sufficient proof Jesus was as the Bible says, but to me Christianity seems like little more than man-made ideas developed over time

People kept telling Jesus they would believe if he would give them a sign - eg Matthew 12.39, Mark 8.11. They'd already witnessed plenty. Sometimes you have to risk your self-esteem and pride in your intellect and take a step of faith. Because if Jesus is true then you are missing out on everything, and if not - well, you really don't matter at all.

What happens if I do take a step of faith and still find nothing? What happens if I am literally incapable of having any faith until I have some indication it might be true? Assuming it isn't true, how far do I go before I conclude it won't achieve anything?

      @asherloat8570 3 месяца назад +1

@@susanc6058 I thought that too when I first stopped believing until I realised that life is absolutely not meaningless without Jesus. Yes, it means there is no objective purpose to the universe, but everyone's individual lives still have their own personal meaning which can be whatever you make of it. I trust that Christianity isn't the only thing that means anything to you. What about friends, family, hobbies, etc? Purpose, relationship, and hope from Jesus all mean nothing if it's not true, and I see no reason to believe it is, and pretending it's true isn't good enough for me.

@asherloat8570 well, there are many things that mean a lot to me, but to be honest I see them all in the light of God's love and grace towards us. And I could never summon up the faith to believe that the incredible complexity of the world came out of nothing and is purposeless.

We want proof that god could actually make a difference in our lives, but see no benefit because its just as useful as not believing in any god. So we don't want to live under a god's rules and somehow that makes us a target from Christians everywhere, and instead of trying to convince us, you try to medial in politics to force those beliefs on us.

To those truly on the fence or flat out denying God but genuinely open to evidence, I highly recommend a booked called “Cold Case Christianity” by J Warner Wallace; an athiestsic detective who turned his forensic investigation skills to the Biblical account of Jesus’ life, ministry, death and resurrection as an actual historical event. Even if just for intellectual intrigue - please take a look. If you can’t buy the book much of the material is free on the Cold Case Christianity website.

The poem is simply, and beautifully, asking you to reconsider Jesus Christ. It is something His disciples ought to do daily, too. But if you aren't yet a believer of Jesus, taking some time to reconsider his scars - namely the God Man come down and hung on a tree to save us from our sins and reconcile us to God - would be a good use of your time. Evidence that Christianity is true? Evidence? You can't be serious. Perhaps you need to take a profound look at the word "evidence." Let's take a good long look at Galileo. He had scientific proof that the earth was not the center of the universe but he was condemned to burning at the stack or house arrest for life. It was heresy, and condemned to death, anyone who said otherwise that the earth was the center of the universe because the church "had proof" through prophecy. More than 2 centuries later, the church finally admitted that the earth does indeed revolve around the sun with other more concrete proof but still maintained its belief in god. Proof is proof. You can't keep moving the goal post just to win your argument, which is what Christianity and other religions of the world keep doing. Believing in Christianity is as small minded as believing in leprechauns, or any other kind of magic for that matter.

Aside from all the evidence? A well-presented video and eloquent apologist doesen't mean he is wrong. Look to Jesus. Have you honestly done that? As Christians we look to Jesus Christ in all that we do. It would be remiss of Glen if he failed to mention Jesus. I assume you are here to regard, weigh and think about the evidence we do have. Leaving a vague and rude comment isn't changing the fact we do have evidence for Christianity. Glen is one example. I am another. The Bible is a library of evidence. We know God. We have a relationship with Him. This is only possible when we submit to Christ.
