you know its begging for a v8 petrol engine conversion, drop it off at vrs and tell em to shove the engine from your m5 in it :) that would make it more fun lol
There are plenty of people who have a very different view about Land Rovers. They are not meant to be fast or comfortable, they are meant to go where other cars can't go in really bad conditions, and they do. These are going up in value, whereas the cars you like are going down in value. You can take dirty dogs in the muddy countryside and afterwards just hose it out. They are a tool for a specific purpose.
And the sort of bloke that trots out this blow-hard nonsense calls it a workhorse, has facial-hair and never does any of that more than once in blue. You'll never see his on the road outside of August.
Do you know what you have there Calvin? There are really rare! Huge followings!!! Worth loads and loads! Don’t be dissing a Landy, your better than that! Not fast but what an icon!!!!!!!!!
The cheapest ones are around 6k, they aren’t that rare (in the UK at least) I see them quite often. I love them though, probably my number 1 favourite car
Calvin, don't change anything on that Landi. A potential gold mine. As you said, it's worth a lot ! Rapidly become a collector's must have. Prices will only go one way.
That Land Rover is far better than some of the bangers you have bought, these REALLY hold their money compared to some of the shitty 4x4 that are about today.👍🇬🇧
This is one of Land Rovers more amazing productions and is worth a nut and bolt restoration. I drove a number of series 2's in Western Queensland during a drought in 1966. It never let me down in the outback and when the rains eventually arrived it could handle a foot of mud on yellow in second gear for most of the day and once saved my life.
Banger !! that Landy is and will always be more reliable than anything you have in stock, value will always increase where as every modern motor you have will go down in value.
Keep that old Landy and Cherish it. Ignore the top speed and enjoy the simplicity of it. I would rather have this on my drive than any modern over-complicated car, and any of Land Rover's current lifestyle vehicles........
I think the indicators would be the white toggle switch on the dash. The knob with the toothed adjuster is a governor to increase the engine speed when driving equipment off a PTO. It looks like it's on the larger LWB wheels which would make the speedo read under, so it's probably near its max speed of 50-55mph at an indicated 45. There is a reason the wing mirrors are called wing mirrors... they were originally on the wings. No blind spots in the mirrors if you can see anything through the vibrations, but a two-person operation to adjust them. The ignition switch would have originally been on the dash with a separate starter button where the key goes now.
i do wish people would stop calling old landrovers bangers. compared to a modern car they are very very very basic and rough round the edges, but please remember it was never ever meant to be plush. it was meant to carry farmers and their gear from field to field it is a working vehicle.
Doesn’t look a bad old thing and best suited for a farm track … I bought one a few years back and it certainly had character.. only started when it wanted to and not the most comfortable but fun to drive now and again … obviously you’ve done a good deal on it so FairPlay
When men were men and the old Land Rover played a massive part into developing the world as we know it! You have quite a rare series 2 there and the only thing I can see which isn’t original is the handbrake lever, the vent flap knobs were only on the series 2 so I recon this left the factory in 1959 as I have a January 1960 series 2 with the later knobs. Lever on dash is a hand throttle and was only a option on the diesels! I’d be interested if it still has the original 2litre diesel in it as they are extremely rare now..please don’t touch this landy and I would say anything over 15k is spot on.
It’s got ser1 idiot lights and the blue for the low fuel level. So I’d say pretty early two, while Rover were using up 88 ser1 dashes before the big plastic oil and charge lights came in. Lucas488 flat glass lights as well. Fitted them on my 2.
That's a Series III plastic window lock I think. Series 2/2A had them at the top of the door-tops. Otherwise, I agree - everything else suggests Series 2 land rover (screwed vent-flaps, twist-knob vent levers, flat front valance)
Calv, you should get the land rover into storage, it'll be worth mega money in another 10 years or so, The variety of content recently is top notch, Keep ONIT Calv👌🏼👍🏻
"Worth mega money in 10 years time" Probably not. General concensus in the classic car world is prices will crash in line with the phasing out of petrol and diesel fuel. In 10 years time fuel may well still be around but maybe not widely and convinently available and could be expensive.
Your video was brilliant 😆we've got a series 2a 1971 truck cab land rover that we rebuilt and it does up to 70mph and it's taken us to the outer Hebrides, Shetland and everywhere else and wouldn't be without it. By the way my other half (Robbie Chapman's brother) went to school with your brother aaron😁
What a wonderful example, please dont touch or change anything about this car. On the face of it, it seems to be an honest and straight example with very few if any "modifications " pretty rare where land rovers are concerned. Its value and character lays in its current condition. The good news is 2nd, third and forth gears have syncro, you only have to double de-cluctch between 1st and 2nd.
My junior school headmaster had one in the 1970s. He used to sometimes give me a lift home in it. To change from 4WD to 2 he had to crawl underneath and hit something metal repeatedly with a wrench. I loved it and always wanted one. The tattier the better!
This is the most fun you’ve had in a car this year can tell by the laughs and smiles. Don’t do a thing to it just give it a wash and a general tidy up in places maybe a bit of a polish and off to classic car auctions
Always loved a landrover the 110 defender I learned to drive in that belonged to my step dad had series 2 doors in great for the summer the tops of the doors just slot of even tho I learned to drive in a landrover I ended up taking my test in an automatic no desire what so ever to drive a manual
Love these land rovers I remember my grandad had one on his farm in 70s definitely keep it Calvin as prices are going up no way u can break speed limit in this 😂😂
I do like the old defenders , I can't remember the last time I saw a series 2 on the road, and I live in the sticks . Prices have sky rocketed since I last had one. Tough old motors .
The best part is when your driving at night, so little light in the interior you fumble around looking the the right switch for wipers etc. And needing 3 legs for brakes/clutch/accelarator/head light switch - yes the switch is on the floor under the clutch pedal 😀
Look after it. If the chassis OK you've got a nice one, nearly 60 years old so treat it with respect. Your old Audi will be long gone to the scrap yard, and that landy will still be around. I have one the same, it's worth more than my pension.
My first vehicle was a 1972 Series IIA, already several years old. It was slow, noisy, cold in the winter, hot in the summer, leaked fluids like a really old dog, and I miss it more than any other vehicle I’ve ever owned. Would I want to drive it every day now? Absolutely not, but I’d still love to have one again.
The carburetor that you want came on a 235 CU inch 6 cylinder equipped 1954 Chevy. It has the 30.9mm venturi, a manual choke and a sleeve type top that fits the neck of a Land Rover air cleaner. This carburetor is still available as a rebuild. Your 2.25L engine will not run properly with carburetors that have the larger venturi sizes. he Rochester will need to be rejetted. A 48 to 52 main jet will work in most cases, depending on altitude and engine condition, and the model carburetor secured. Start with 50 to 52 for primarily low altitude driving or 48 to 49 for primarily high altitude driving. Too lean a mixture will shorten the life of your valves. Best mod i made to my old '69 Bug-Eye. And change the genereator to an alternator. If not, you have to oil the bushing in the back of th generator, or it will wear out every 7-8K miles.
I daily a series 1 Land Rover, so generation from before this. This one you have here looks to be a 1958 series 2, so your sat on a small fortune there as the 58 S2s are super rare, just bare that in mind…
I have a 1967 Series 2, I love it. I have spent the last 8 years rebuilding every piece. Everyone needs a hobby. Mine will run 50 mph with no problem, 60 if I really push it.
I have been driving a series 2 ( petrol however) for 25 years. My friends have bought and sold and bought and sold and bought etc.etc cars and my beloved series 2 is still daily commuting from home to wherever I need to go. I just love it!Your previous audi has no value and if you look after the series 2 it will only increase in price getting older! Series 2 land rovers? By far the best of all land rovers ever made!
Welcome to the land rover series club. I have a 1965 land rover series 2A peyed £5,000 for it about a year and I am still working on her. They are worth a lot of money and they just keep on going up in value.
A Friend of mine has had loads of these old land Rovers, they're always in my way up my unit so I've also had the displeasure of driving them from time to time haha! The V8 petrol ones do sound and smell great though!
Those Land Rovers are not the most top performance cars ever made, but you did made the best investment in years and is a real classic British made jewel These cars can go anywhere, no frills of any kind, freedom on four wheel drive and lots of fun Enjoy it, those simplest cars are the most reliable and sound, not made anymore
The bloke who chopped it in should have bought his Audi first off. He liked the idea of having a canvas topped Landy but had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what they were actually like. And it’ll do seventy by the way. It’s just that 45 feels a bit safer. And that’s a very decent series two, by no means a banger. Edit. It’s a three bearing diesel. So maybe 50 to be fair
This series 2 is my dream car, I grew up on my grandads farm and he had one in the same green. Sadly rusted out and no longer exists, so many happy memories with it I’ve been saving up for one for nearly 2 years now!!
My daughter would loose her mind for this car. It's been her dream since 16 to one day own one. Told her get saving an start following big man Calvin 😎😎
Actually great to see one driven by someone who is not already an obsessed Series 2 owner. Definitely worthy of a garaged toy, that comes out to play occasionally for very short trips. But way off the mark as a modern-day-usage second car. Shame, because I bloody love it!
And then there was the Black Cab I forgot to mention....at least we all know you don't take yourself too seriously and put yourself out there....keep your content flowing
I ran a 1962 Landrover for years. Had to change engines and gearboxes but it was easy. Don't like seatbelts so I'm now looking for a pre 1960 to build.
Loved this video, more weird cars Calvin! You could consider taking a test drive in an old vintage tractor and then a big modern tractor to see the differences. It would make for a funny video
A farmer local to me has a side business completely restoring these from the chassis up. I used to polish them up after the paint job for him. He makes a f*ucking absolute killing with these.
Ive just bought one of these not had it 3 days when a Lady Landrover enthusiast offered me the most incredible money to buy it.I still have it at present but Im guessing these things are more popular than I thought!
It's called double de clutching , and they engine has been changed as it would have been a 2 and quarter litre petrol , so could be running a Perkins diesel
Out of all of the bad cars I’ve ever driven, this is definitely the best 🤣
Come on Calvin surely this needs to be your new daily driver 😆
you know its begging for a v8 petrol engine conversion, drop it off at vrs and tell em to shove the engine from your m5 in it :)
that would make it more fun lol
Best Landy that money can buy!!!
Drop a BMW 3.0d twin turbo lump in it 😆
Do you do special deals for your subscribers?

Amen!
They are perfect!

Calvin, don't change anything on that Landi. A potential gold mine.
As you said, it's worth a lot !
Rapidly become a collector's must have. Prices will only go one way.
Can’t really call it a banger and if it holds value the way these sort of cars do. You are not a classic car person to appreciate this beauty.
Well said, that car would be more reliable and easier to fix than half of his modern stock
That Land Rover is far better than some of the bangers you have bought, these REALLY hold their money compared to some of the shitty 4x4 that are about today.👍🇬🇧
totally agree
Very true
That’s worth a lot more than it looks! Tax and mot exempt, historic vehicle insurance, perfectly useable in many place still
Good old Landy that 👍🏻
You only have to double de-clutch for gear 1-2 because 3 and 4 have synchromesh.
This is one of Land Rovers more amazing productions and is worth a nut and bolt restoration. I drove a number of series 2's in Western Queensland during a drought in 1966. That bad boy will pull all your cars out of a ditch all day.. a classic 👌
Congrats.
A thing of beauty is a joy for ever.
Land Rover is Britain's pride.
Probably the best car you've bought yet!
it's not a car, it isa an off road vehicle
Correct
What an absolutely stunning classic.
First red flag: calling a Land Rover a ‘car’.
LMAO Calvin granny shifting instead of double clutching like you should 🤣🤣
Keep that old Landy and Cherish it. Ignore the top speed and enjoy the simplicity of it.
I would rather have this on my drive than any modern over-complicated car, and any of Land Rover's current lifestyle vehicles........
Wow! "Lifestyle Vehicles". Not car anymore, an existential statement. The wankery has gone too far.
Bro, you cant disrespect series land rovers.
This is the coolest thing you've had on the channel, please tidy it up, could do a series on chasing parts etc
You had just discovered where the name wing mirror came from.
The indicators are the white switch lower right side of the dash panel

I think this is the first time I’ve seen Calv get excited about going 44mph 😂😂
Doesn’t look a bad old thing and best suited for a farm track … I bought one a few years back and it certainly had character.. only started when it wanted to and not the most comfortable but fun to drive now and again … obviously you’ve done a good deal on it so FairPlay
These old Landys are a sound investment, you only have to double the cluch i 2nd gear 👍
and first...
@13.50, you've finally admitted it then 'this is a proper Land Rover'
That Landy is in fantastic original condition and worth strong money 👍🏼
Calvins editing has leveled up
When men were men and the old Land Rover played a massive part into developing the world as we know it!
You have quite a rare series 2 there and the only thing I can see which isn’t original is the handbrake lever, the vent flap knobs were only on the series 2 so I recon this left the factory in 1959 as I have a January 1960 series 2 with the later knobs.

Yu don't leave it sitting outside like that Mitsubishi gto
"Worth mega money in 10 years time" Probably not. General concensus in the classic car world is prices will crash in line with the phasing out of petrol and diesel fuel. In 10 years time fuel may well still be around but maybe not widely and convinently available and could be expensive.
I'd reckon on the mileage being genuine. 1200 miles a year is a fair amount for a farm truck.
Your video was brilliant 😆we've got a series 2a 1971 truck cab land rover that we rebuilt and it does up to 70mph and it's taken us to the outer Hebrides, Shetland and everywhere else and wouldn't be without it. That's looks to be in good nick sold bulkhead the color is bronze green as long as your chassis is sold your fine
This is the most fun you’ve had in a car this year can tell by the laughs and smiles. Don’t do a thing to it just give it a wash and a general tidy up in places maybe a bit of a polish and off to classic car auctions
Absolutely loved this video hilarious and the expressions on Calvins face
Love this classic Landrover, worth quite a bit this is 👌
You should get your boy out in this one, I bet he would love it
Always loved a landrover the 110 defender I learned to drive in that belonged to my step dad had series 2 doors in great for the summer the tops of the doors just slot of even tho I learned to drive in a landrover I ended up taking my test in an automatic no desire what so ever to drive a manual

Calvin that will fly out of the yard, they are very collectable vehicles
The "wing mirrors" are on the "wings" where they originated, and got their name. OK you can't see anything, but they are in their true home.
I do like the old defenders , I can't remember the last time I saw a series 2 on the road, and I live in the sticks .

That’s actually hilarious you got offered that in px against an S5! Bet Jerome was like wtf when buyer mentioned about it 😂
That Landy is LOVELY! Not a banger!! 😂 I’d love that in my car collection
Loved it, I've got a 1970 one and it's almost exactly the same. Great old cars. Might be selling mine soon if you're interested 🤔
That land rover is a gold mine
Classic Landy, worth restoring and keeping
Calv, contact uk salvage rebuilds they’ll be all over this.
I think you should get the bodywork sorted IMO. I think it would make good money and it would make the car look excellent
Put a massive smile on my face watching this video Calvin ….cracking Old Land Rover ….. secretly the BEST you have driven I bet 👌👌🤣🤣🤣
I daily a series 1 Land Rover, so generation from before this. This one you have here looks to be a 1958 series 2, so your sat on a small fortune there as the 58 S2s are super rare, just bare that in mind…

If a car doesn't make you smile, it's just an appliance.
Proper zombie apocalypse survival vehicle.
A banger is harsh mate, that's a proper classic! Even if that condition it's going to be desirable to the right crowd.
Welcome to the land rover series club. I have a 1965 land rover series 2A peyed £5,000 for it about a year and I am still working on her. They are worth a lot of money and they just keep on going up in value.

by far one of the coolest cars ive seen on your page
That mileage is correct as its probably gone round a few times 😆
Rare and actually reviews for present. It ‘s benefit for gen Z to look for to buy it. Thank Calvin
Actually great to see one driven by someone who is not already an obsessed Series 2 owner. Definitely worthy of a garaged toy, that comes out to play occasionally for very short trips. But way off the mark as a modern-day-usage second car. Shame, because I bloody love it!

Great to see you getting a bit of culture, Cal! Good for you!
Its got loads going for it calv. That's why it's worth what it's worth
Loved this video, more weird cars Calvin! You could consider taking a test drive in an old vintage tractor and then a big modern tractor to see the differences. It would make for a funny video
I’m the biggest Land Rover fan and have a Series 3 but I love your honest funny opinion
let's be honest, you love it
everyone should drive one of these in their lifes
once
because you certainly dont want to drive one after a meal
With those old gearboxes you just have to double declutch a bit slower !
Should have held on to it. Saw a beautiful restoration of a series 3 88" today - its up for £75,000 and has tonnes of interest!
The old banger will still be around when the Audi is a pile of scrap
love these videos. well done calvin!
Think of the history of the owners and their stories in it. I love old Land Rover old and new!
That’s not a banger that’s the best one you’ve had yet imo 👍🏽
A farmer local to me has a side business completely restoring these from the chassis up. I used to polish them up after the paint job for him. He makes a f*ucking absolute killing with these.
Ive just bought one of these not had it 3 days when a Lady Landrover enthusiast offered me the most incredible money to buy it.I still have it at present but Im guessing these things are more popular than I thought!
Absolutely fantastic, rolling babe magnet, thank you Calvin, the best
40 mph ever, great fun. And worth a few quid, now and in the future!
Don’t make em like that no more ! My old man had a crank start !
This is gold Calvin 😂
Think I enjoyed watching you drive that more than the R8 or anything else Calv, the look on your face mate absolutely brilliant 😄
So it bad that I think this is one of the best videos you’ve done in a long time !! Proper class !!
Just hear the excitement in your voice - laughing with the joy of the Land Rover!
It's called double de clutching , and they engine has been changed as it would have been a 2 and quarter litre petrol , so could be running a Perkins diesel
In the days that landy was new, nearly all cars had mirrors on the wings, terrible things. You must drive it off road.
If you want to see Calvs sprit dying inside this is the vehicle 😂😂
