Just curious, where is their Water? I also have one prrgnant female ,( i think , brought her from the pet shop wirh huge appetite and she was growing rounde quick, but now i have her for 14 days and still no babies, so i worry
Also these two new girls i got, they can't or Arent vvery succesful drinking from a Water bottle.. Is there some way to teach them? I gave them both a second different Water bottle but not sure if they use It. It i put a bowl in they get bedding in It after like half an hour And sometimes poop
Gestation for rats is approximately 21 days. So, if they are pregnant, it may not be time. The water source is a 5 gallon bucket on top fitted with a quick connect attachment that allows tubing to run to each bin with water nozzles. It is a gravity fed system. I purchased the equipment from reptile basics. Also, if you put an easier water source like a bowl, they will never use the bottle. Just keep the bottle in and they will learn. Rats are smart. They will figure it out. The only thing you should do is check the ball at the end of the spout every couple days. I have had a ball get stuck and not turn when they drink due to mineral build up.
I have multiple females per bin. How do you, or what do you recommend doing to differentiate between the females? Especially if many of them are the same color/pattern.
I try to put females with different patterns together, but we live in Alaska now and are only allow white or albino rats. So, I can’t differentiate anymore. And I’m only 1 of 3 breeders in the state, so I do what I can.
What do you do with a female rat that is a great mother but every time you go to take the babies away or even feed them she bites you? its not a bad bite but its still a bite.
Try to distract her with a treat. It’s going to happen. You are taking her baby away and her job is to protect them. I don’t cull females for this behavior.
If you keep your rats in your home, how do you keep the smell down? I have my racks in my garage but it is starting to get to hot, thanks for any advice.
I use a generous layer of aspen and clean adults weekly and maternity rack sometimes biweekly. I do open the windows in the morning and close them up when I turn on our air in the afternoon. Our room is quite large and open, but I have never had an issue with smell. I have had guests over and they said it doesn’t smell bad. It smell like aspen wood. If you have a lot of male grow outs that are mature, then that can add to the smell. I use my males for feeding first.
Apparently, adding vanilla extract or apple cider vinegar to the water can aid in the smell as well. I don't breed rats myself so can't attest to that first hand but it's something I have heard other people say who do breed rats and they say it works.
I NEED HELP!! I just started breeding rats. I bought a male and three females March 7th. Today is April 23rd. I put all three in a Rubbermaid Christmas tree bin. No luck with getting any of my females pregnant. They are all mature girls and so is he. I finally built a rat rack and have separated them all. I put the male and the female in a bin and the other two females in a separate bin. That was one week ago. I’m waiting another week and to check on the female that’s with the male to see if her size has changed. if she has gotten bigger, I will put the male in with the other two females. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 Any other recommendations??? I am shocked that no one got pregnant when they were in the Christmas tree Rubbermaid bin!!
Rats should never be left alone. They are social animals and get stressed easily. They may not breed if the environment is busy and/or noisy. They are nocturnal.
@@FenderFootprints I’m sure but they have no rat friends to groom and cuddle with. Still no proper cage to play and climb. Iknow they are for food. I just think people that farm food should give those animals the best life they can while those animals are alive. I suppose that may make it confusing say for a cow then that’s taken to slaughter. The older I get, the more these things bother me. Testing on animals, factory farms, the itty bitty cages for momma pigs, cutting the fin off a shark and leaving it to die a horrible death, pumping chickens full of all kinds of crap to make their breast bigger for the consumers, only the chickens fall over because their chests are too heavy. It’s all wrong and sad to me. The animals all deserve better. They aren’t here for us to torture, alter, kill…..you realize how smart rats are. They are loving and empathetic…they have family groups. They love to play and run and groom one another. I’m sorry..I’m not angry, just sad and it isn’t just you, it’s everything and everyone. Please continue to do all you can for all of your rats. They deserve it.
Great job taking care of your rodents! It's awesome to see owners treat their feeder animals with the same care and respect as the reptiles.
Thank you. We love all animals. Some have to eat others. The circle of life.

They are an aluminum C track that can be purchased at Lowes or Home Depot.

It’s sad they have no life…no friends or toys or love ☹️😢🥺😩
They get plenty of love from myself, my husband, and my kids everyday.
