- It wasnt named the GOAT for no reason, this underdog of a car proves not to judge a book by its cover!
under the hood is either a 5.7 LS1 or a 6.0 LS2 imported from Australia as a rebadged Holden Monaro, its no wonder its called the Australian corvette! Авто/Мото

*Uh oh. The comment section says you got most of your information wrong on this one bud*
Before making "reviews"; Do accurate research.
I don't like hearing opinions stated as facts.
Danger Noodle hell man, he's not even stating opinions here, just flat out bullshit.
The engine size wasn't optional. 04 came with 5.7. 05, 06 came with the 6.0. this video is whack.
Tom Clyburn yea this guy knows nothing about these cars
Wack
Funny enough, anyone who knows these cars know this, but a lot of different systems say otherwise. Ie- for a long time Mitchell on demand and AllData added 2 options in the 05s. A couple years back I was using Mitchell to look up service bulletins on my GTO when I had just gotten it and it had it there.
Most of these vids are
Just to clear up a few things; the 04 DID have true dual exhaust. It just exited out one side.
There was no engine option. 04 had the LS1, 05 and 06 had the LS2. The only option any of these cars ever had was a choice of a manual or automatic transmission.
Electrical problems? Overheating? Nope. Many of the early 04's had a programming glitch which caused the gauges to go crazy and make it appear that the car was overheating, when in fact it wasn't. Irritating, but not dangerous. Only had to shut down the car and restart it to reset. They came out with a fix pretty quickly. The dealer reflashed the ECM and, no more problems. In fact, the only time my 04 overheated was when the pos radiator cracked. (The ends were plastic) It did have over 100,000 miles on it at the time........
Yes, the brakes on the 04 sucked. Simple upgrade.
Also, for the one millionth time, GM only had a 3 year contract to build and import the car from Australia. Holden was contracted to build a total of 45,000 "GTO's".
We all know the car was a great car that was marketed wrong. Had it been sold as the Pontiac Monaro, who knows???
05 AND 06, did get an option appearance package, and then optional 18" rims.
@@kensenychych4750 That is correct. I forgot about the SAP option. I stand corrected!
But the video lists the engines as options
@@michaeltwist7257 yeah, not sure if the guy doing the video knows the whole story about the car or not, I found it to be full of errors myself.
@@kensenychych4750 also some of the 05 goats came with flat hoods from the factory
This reviewer seems to be a GM hater. The only american car company I know of that was notorious for dangerous vehicles was Ford. The Pinto was known for exploding when rear ended, the 84-86 Mustangs were known for electrical fires from the fuse relay box, The early to mid 90's Rangers for catching on fire due to a plastic elbow fuel line part that would crack that was located above the driverside valve cover, The 97-03 F150s were known for the cruise control switch catching fire and the newer F150s were recalled because of the seat buckle sensors catching fire. The 90's Ford Windstar, Explorer and Ranger were recalled for fire safety issues because of a pocket located near the exhaust that would collect debris that would eventually catch fire. GM only had one major safety recall and that was the ignition lock.
I never heard of any electrical or overheating problems from GTOs. Weird...
Mine is 14 years old and I've yet to have an overheating or electrical problem. Still on stock radiator.
there is the notorious bcm wires rubbing behind the glove box..... also the speedometer and odometer going berserk at times... reduced power mode on 05 and 06 models. But have never heard of the overheating issues.
This probably isnt the norm, but I went through 3 radiators on mine before I got a mishimoto
Had an 06, went through 2 water pumps and 3 radiators, electrical issues as well. Dash would go Chinese on me. I loved this car though.
Tex Texingworth me to bro. Also 2 water pumps.
The exhaust on the 04 was also a true dual system, just both pipes exited on the driver side a lot of people think it’s a single exhaust system though
Was about to say the same thing.
My 04exits on each side
So sad to think that this is the last GTO that we will have. And that there will be no more Firebirds. RIP Pontiac.
glad i got my bird
Buick’s making a Trans Am 😂
GtrR34 In blue It turned out to just be a rumor.
@@derekbigpowers1993 dude, because of the suv cuv hard on that everyone has, sports cars outside the Corvette, Mustang and Miata are threatened. At this point the Camaro eventually going electric and sparking interest is the only thing that will save it.
I don’t think it’s a bad thing... we should be thankful we even got any modern muscle from Pontiac before GM shit the bed and had to axe their own products to stay a float!
Holden from birth has been the Pontiac div in Australia since 1965. No the 3700lbs 4 seat GTO was not a competitor of the 2 seat fiberglass Corvette. Take a look at the GTO and Monaro thru the years 65 to 08 and you will see the engineering goes way back.
Sir, the 2004's do have a true dual exhaust, get your facts stright
yep
SgtBurn was but it’s not an svt so it doesent matter 😩
Absolutely has a true dual exhaust system. I own 04 GTO Torrid Red. The two exhaust tips exit only on the left rear of the bumper. Each exhaust tip is piped directly with no cross over to the engine.
I own a 04 , other than a x pipe it in fact has a true dual exhaust.... 2 separate headers running to 2 separate cat and resonators running to the x pipe and then 2 exhaust pipes running back to the 2 separate mufflers and 2 exhaust tips. It is in fact true dual exhaust.
Yea it just routes to one side....
My step dad has a 04 he bought in 04 six speed manual 5.7 we drove from Az to palm desert 30 mpg we ate up a grand national and that was the day I feel in love with it lol.
@@willhillman7451 I pull 28 mpg when I baby tf out of it. But on average I get 15mpg . Who drives the car for gas mileage anyways lol hammer down 😂
It is a very fun car. I love my 04 aswell
I drove the 6.0 GTO. I gunned it from 80 mph and it pinned me in the seat....and that was a automatic. GTO is a BEAST. Love that car. I think it would've looked cool in a convertible
Grand national sucks
This guy is a budget Mr. Regular lmao
no engine options, 04 was the 5.7, 05-6 was the 6.0.
never had cooling issues
all had true duals, 04's just both exited on the same side.
"flat hood" versions (04's) were only made 1 year.
the corvette had the exact 6.0l, both were rated exactly the same at 400 hp.
if your going to make videos, at least get your facts strait
They released this my senior year of High School and I was appalled at what they had done to replace my favorite modern American sports car (2003 Trans - Am) but now in my early 30s I find myself desiring that '06 hood scooped dual exhaust 6-speed more than ever.
It's a shame the local classifieds are plagued with automatics, and it seems the leather is often in really bad shape as well. Still, I think one of these days I'll make the switch to the 4 seater LS2
4th gen Trans Ams were made from 93-02. There are no 2003 TAs.
no odd electrical or oveheating problems on the same Holden's that were sold here in australia. I still have a 06 VZ clubsport with exactly the same electricals and driveline as the GTO.
So much misinformation here, and I actually own one. Bought brand new in Mar of 2007
I'm from the Bahamas and I'm 22 and I love my Manual cars. I have a Toyota aristo but in America its called a Lexus gs300 my own is a manual swapped single turbo
It was also rebadged in Europe as the Vauxhall Monaro.
Mustanglvr007 - nfs carbon
I thought it was just the uk
Also rebadged as a chevy lumina
Ive a Vauxhall VXR 5.7. in UK Only NOT Europe. BHP is Stock 387.Took the Vaux/badge off. And Got a Monaro Ausse.badge .Your GTO is Like Our CV8 Over Here. Cheers
@@jb6574 ...in South Africa and in the Middle East. I only wish that the American Lumina was an awesome car as well.
Holden manuer..i mean manaro lol. Fyi the 5.7 actually had true dual exhausts also, it just came out one side
THANK YOU!
But I still want my Pontiac g8
Megacharzard10 Gameing same. G8 GTX.
Great video! Thankyou!
I thought this video was going to tell known problems or quirks of the GTO.
But it’s still s good crash course video about the 04-06 GTO for people who still don’t know about the car. This car was definitely an unsung hero in the muscle car world
I posted a problem video but its mostly dumb stuff lol I think its one of the best it just got a bad wrap lol
Very true, unsung hero is correct
This guy doesn’t know shit I wouldn’t take this video series the 04 had no engine option it had an lt1 05-06 had an lt2 the only option was 6 speed or automatic also have never heard of overheating or electrical issues and the 04 had TRUE dual exhaust it just exited 1 side... I’ve never heard of a 5.7 with single exhaust.... it doesn’t exist...
@@26ladyshadow I know this is your old comment but pretty ironic that you also don’t have your facts in check..”LS1” for 2004 and “LS2” for 2005/2006 have a good day.
I use to really want one of these so back when they first came out when I was a kid but got older & said dam there rare af

@@SgtBurn lol that's how it be I wanted a demon but not nor can afford 80k + & insurance on that MF I'll wait for it to get 20-25 years old before I get one
Shannon CVPI had you driven the GTO then the scat pack to draw that conclusion?
The 04 had true dual exhaust as well, it was just dumped to one side in the back. Still true dual with pipes from both exhaust manifolds going all the way to the back.
"Ah ohhh ah ah ah ah" best written intro ive ever heard
I have one and i can say alot of this vid is wrong. The only main problems were the rear seat splitting, the front/rear bumper clips breaking making the ends stick out slightly, and some had problems with the diff if they weren't correctly serviced. Mine has had no problems aside from a throttle body
Can you please do a before you buy on the lincoln mark Viii i love your videos keep it up.
05-06 hood scoops were non-functional. There are plastic plugs that can be removed to allow a little air in. Manual transmission linkage was terrible so after market short shifter is a must add. Shorties don't do very much for a stock motor except move the torque up which actually hurts street driving.
This!!
I also added the skip shift delete. First mod.
I have an 05 GTO M6 and I absolutely love it I swapped in an LS3
I have 2005 LS2 love this car, did you also know the crank is riffle drilled stock is some where around 75 lbs or so and gto is around 58lbs.
It was never promoted as the Australian Corvette , never was intended as a replacement for it either it’s more practical for the corvette enthusiast whom has a family and corvettes that made it here were few and far between and usually tired 💩 , the Monaro was evolved to compete at Bathurst and it became a legend as great as the Vette also any body here retrofitting the Pontiac gear and putting the Chevy bow tie are usually considered wankers . Also there was a AWD variant which was before Chrysler 300cAWD.
The Monaro is a district in NSW which is pronounced “ MOnArO “ and is known for its great drives
I lived there and the roads are fast paced long distance and grand touring
The GTO only had a Base Trim, there was no option to switch between the LS1 and the LS2. The 05 and 06 GTO's got the LS2, the 04 got the LS1. The only options on a GTO were Exterior/Interior Color, Wheel size, and Transmission type. Also there was a 40th anniversary GTO Package for the 04 year and an SAP appearance package. Crappy video with crappy audio.
Thank you for typing this for me😂
34k miles 5.7 2004 here in hawaii for 7k. Really clean car. I want it.
Bobcat package and a vet of similar year would have its hands full.
The car gets wrapped around trees because it's massive power to weight ratio and the intentional slow steering which aids at high speeds but kills you when you're steering into a slide and can't come out of it once the car is connected

I'm the original owner of my 2006, so will be coming up on 14 years with the vehicle this December. Electrical problems, overheating, not really...maybe a year or two my interior light stopped working, no biggie. The real problems with these cars are the cheap interior parts, things will break, seats will split, etc, so lots of things you will need to fix, or just leave as is. Biggest problems = suspension, just a nightmare. Once this issue is addressed and you get a decent setup, car is amazing.
I still say they screwed us with not sending us the L67 version as a base model. Would of sold well here.
2006 Brazen Orange Metallic GTO, Never had a problem with it , replaced water pump to bosch and radiator to hi-po aluminum unit and it runs hard...
The Great LS engine made by GM is what makes this car. And I think the F body's are great.
06 6L ls2 are beast of a car
I have Vette owners walk up and drive up to me jelly of my goat lol its become a cult classic car.
I personally own an 04 gto I bought a few weeks ago, already bought a turbo and I’m looking to buy a 5.3L truck motor ya know... big boost. 😂 call it killing the value or ruining it but it’s what I wanna do. This video is a pretty good run down on the GTO, loving my gto so far. Anyways, thanks for the awesome vid

Will hillman- yes sir we observed 30 mpg but average was 26-27 from buckeye Az to palm desert ca
Nice review m8
Hey mr random when will you do a steering wheel swap on your crown marauder....waiting for that vid!
Pontiac g8 gxp and chevy captice pov and chevy ss are basically the same car family from holden with more power .love the presentation.thx.
I love that car. That is a special car on many levels.
Great stuff
Do a before you buy video for the w124 Mercedes
The hood scoops do nothing. The 2004 "single" exhaust is actually a true dual exhaust. These cars did not suffer from overheating at any point. The scoops did not help with cooling. There were no electrical problems either. Come on!
My buddy has a nice blue one, blue leather interior, 6.0L, 6 speed, 55K miles and it has been at the dealer for literally 4 months now; they cannot find a replacement ECU for it anywhere! He's had a loaner the entire time, so he isn't complaining too much, but it is just wasting away in the dealer back lot. Unbelievable GM cannot get a ECU for a 2006!
Unopened nos parts are starting to be unicorn status on ebay. Likely, they're looking for a new part which is getting impossible to find. Thanks to a good 3rd who own these with no driving skill, the only real source of parts is salvage yards.
Had my 05 YJ 6Speed ECM go BAD, as well. FINALLY found a guy online who had SIX brand new GTO ECM’s he had stockpiled, he programmed a new one for me, $600.00 later, my GTO was back up.
My Buddy has a red one with the gto on the sides. Sounds great. Ls1
Damn. That cavalier is fast
I want to know what kind of bumper the car in the thumbnail has. Way better looking than the stock bumper.
2004 GTO had duels just came out one side.
I clicked to see if anyone knows where I can get the body kit on the picture before clicking the video?
I still have my 5.7 gto looks clean and 78k miles on it
Me too!! Phantom black metallic 2004 manual 74k miles!! Bought in 2015 with 6k miles!
yup.....I had an 2006 A4 torrid red with red/black interior & a maggy tvs1900 on top, was a really fun daily driver, but I really really really really really love my drysump 2011 Corvette GS!!!
These are cool cars...I enjoyed one but the tiny wheel/tire on the rear with the LS2 is just too much for that body style. The LS2 is awesome that was the best part of that car.
God this video is so good
2004 gto's had true dual exhaust just out the left side
I'm still buying an 05 this summer
Does anyone know what body kit is on the silver gto at the start of this video??????

I want to buy a GTO is it okay for a 16 y/o?
Didn't GTO have issues where the fuel rail cover would rub against the fuel line and catch fire.Think that was one of its major issues.G8 has the timing chain and lifter failure issues.
DatBoyDre only 2004 gto’s had issues with fuel line rubbing against the coil pack harness & fuel rail covers, later fixed with the 2005 model.
Yeah and the 6.0 in the g8s had problems with the dod lifters failing which in turn could cause catastrophic engine damage
I have a monte.carlo ss 87 ls 5.3 should i trade it for a gto

There was another option not mentioned. 17" or 18" wheels.

I’m from Australia, and coincidentally a Monaro owner, and I can attest that no one, absolutely no one in Australia, refers to these as an Australian Corvette.
Not anymore it isn't. I just paid 20,000 for an 06 m6 with 47,000 miles on it.
This video made me happy😂
Felt like I missed something lol
I had a 2004 Pontiac GTO. They did have dual exhaust, but the tail pipes were asymmetrical because the Holden Monaro didn't have a bumper cut for a symmetrical dual exhaust system and the 2004 model was literally thrown together at last minute so Pontiac had something to compete with the new Mustangs and the Mazda RX-8. What they ended up with was an Australian sports car with a big enough engine to scare pedestrians who were taking their time crossing the parking lot in front of my car like the passive aggressive bastards they were.
