    Not only a very comprehensive room setup but also a massive step in the right direction by standing for classes so as to actually emulate a proper teaching experience for the students and allows you (the teacher) to incorporate actual TPR, which the majority of all other sitting online teachers fail to provide. Thank you!

      @@KristinaGarcia Online teaching isn't my forte but language and human development are. I train teachers to use basic child psychology and behavioural queues to predict child learning patterns and understanding, this, in turn, helps the teacher to see where the students require more focus in a specific ability. I do this mostly in Japan but I do some light travel around Asia

      Hi, LaKeisha! Thanks for the support! Typically, Walmart will get them back in stock pretty quickly...and you can also check your local Walmart! • @meli9636

    I've enjoyed watching a couple of your videos today. :) :) I teach for a different school but would like to transition over to VIPKID.....so I'm just now kind preparing to apply which led me to your videos. I have two mutually interactive reasons for choosing the school I have. At that school I work mostly with older students and adults and we've been living and traveling internationally for 6 years while teaching online and we travel light..... I have to makeshift a work space and improvise props when needed on the go and it's just easier to elect not to work with younger students so that I can use more digital tools and require fewer props and be able to work with a more varied environment. You've inspired me to make a video on how to create a mobile classroom and what goes into working seamlessly on the fly from anywhere. My students have come to know me and look forward to all the new places they get to go too. We travel the world caring for and rescuing animals, and teaching classes makes that possible.... my favorite teaching aid to work with is the menagerie of animals that wander into our lives..... It's been fun having a thousand different dogs and cats (the usual) and all the mega mega unusual that comes with life in the Central American jungles - things literally dropping in out of the sky and crawling out of the woordwork.
    I have known that working with VIPKID and the younger crowd requires a lot more gear, energy and set-up and I haven't had all that (consistently) so I've not looked into VIPKID for myself till now. I do consistently recommend it to other people wanting to teach online though as the pay and support and lesson planning are better. I do 10 times the amount of work building all of my lessons myself (and I'm tired.....) :) So I guess that is what I'm commenting here - you have a lot of props and well dedicated space and it's interesting to see how well you integrate all your tools into your performance (that's what I feel like teaching can be sometimes..... performance art!) :) To run a successful class you need tools and I can see how you provide a much different kind of classroom experience than I do (and yours is completely more appropriate for your students than mine would be). It takes students just a little bit longer to figure me out - we have a good time though and they do well. But I'm starting to feel the need to get away from the time investment of lesson planning and perhaps use that energy instead for young kiddo classes.
    Your videos reminded of a few things I need to do to prepare to work with a younger crowd again (namely slow down, use fewer words and amp up the glee :) ) You've given me some great visual reminders of how to do all that (even for me, an experienced teacher --- I've been teaching languages for 25 years but to teens and college students/adults/soldiers/doctors/government employees etc!) I work too much in my remote bubble and it's easy to forget the value of learning from other teachers or being reminded by other teachers. :)
    There isn't a network of teachers in the school I work for (it's small) and I do miss the collaboration (sorry, not trying to take over your comment feed... :) )

      You're right, VIPKid teachers typically work with young students who expect a higher energy level than adults...but you can certainly favor digital props and minimalism in the classroom!! Idea! I just started researching command strips and found out there's one type that comes together with a clip that holds A4 sheets to the wall. They advertise it as useful for hanging your child's artwork or little notes. I believe that to be quite an optimal solution as all you need is several of those on your wall/board and then any un-magnetic piece can be held there and swapped when not used.

    I actually think I'm going to have a backup classroom as well. I'm starting with one that is actually on the floor. I sit on the floor. Most chairs make me sit in ways that trigger my migraines...not worth it. So I interviewed and have taught my first few classes on the floor, but I teach in my art studio so I have a large painting desk that I bought from my university when they rebuilt (maybe 7 years ago for $10) It's kinda junky but it will be perfect!! And since my original classroom (and current) is on the floor and on the back of a closet door, I don't think I'll be taking it down for any reason...We will see...Thanks for inspiring me to leave it up lol and it will be nice to sit and stand when I get more bookings too.

    • @KristinaGarcia
      @KristinaGarcia  6 лет назад

      Thanks for watching and commenting, Cindy! I hope I answer your question right. The "wires" I have are just the cables from my devices (my computer charging cord and my headset cord). I just let them hang--plugged in--while I teach. When I'm not teaching, I just gently wrap them into the sides of the plate rack so that I don't have to "fish" for them when I'm ready to set up the next day. I use my laptop all day long, so I usually take it out of my classroom when I finish teaching. Did this answer your question? If not, please try me again! Haha

      Hi, Kim! Sure! It's simply an over-the-door shoe hanger with clear pockets. I bought it at Wal-mart! It has 24 pockets. I cut it in half so that I can have the letters in a more horizontal space (instead of having 4x6 up-down I have 8x3). I simply pinned them up with pushpins! I have one letter per pocket and then I double up at the end of the alphabet: WX/YZ. My question is, do you use the side wall (the wall that you have the letters hanging on) or do you just use it to hang your things?
