When the back hatch was locked and you could not open it with the remote...what did you have to do to get it unlocked so you could open the hatch and get to the latch that you unbolted, turned it and bolted it back?
Great video. In my case, when the actuator was broken I could not get my 2004 Seq Limited to go into program mode for new fobs. Once it was fixed that wasn’t an issue.
Thanks so much for the tip at the end about flipping the latch hook around. Mine was substantially worn down, and flipping this around seems to have helped. I'll probably replace the latch soon, but for now this fixed an annoying rattle I had from the lift gate.
In your video at about 6:08 u said u already unplugged the actuator/latch so it could not lock itself. My makes a sound when I press my key like its unlocking, but the latch does not work still or pulling cable...any ideas on why?
After replacing a broken door handle the lift gate would open and close like it was fixed...lol Then all of sudden it would get stuck like it was locking on us or some how jammed... What a pain in the ass! It had us thinking it was is the actual latch but now we will try what you did and see what happens, thanks for the video!
Mine just needed the latch to be cleaned and lubed. I solved the stretched cable pull by zip tying it the the latch arm while the door was open without disassembling anything. It helps to clean the latch when taken off, depending on how dirty the inside is. I used Break Free, a firearms cleaner lube with a nice foaming action and heavier oil. WD40 would be second option. If you hear a click in the rear when you hit the lock you don't need a new latch! Sometimes a mechanism in the lock/latching assembly needs to be ground down it can block from unlocking the door, likely just on cheap aftermarket replacement locks only.
The issue I had with mine was the cable on the lock actuator assembly, it was frayed and it did not move freely, if the cable has any sort of tension on it it will not open. I put a new Toyota unit on my hatch along with a metal hatch handle, haven’t had a problem since
Question sir, you said the one you lifted ate up ball joints. How soon after lifting it did you feel you started having a problem? I just put a 2 inch strut spacer on mine and brand-new Beck-Arnley LBJ’s. Seems solid but it’s only been in that configuration for a few weeks. Next is the fact that I have replaced my liftgate handle previously and it worked great and suddenly it would not unlock. Probably would’ve been a quick fix at the time by flipping around the hook but of course I didn’t know that then. I pretty much went nuts with the remote and had my wife hitting the lock/unlock buttons inside the vehicle until I physically heard something break and fall down into the hatch, which I can still hear rattling around every time I open and close it. I can now open and close my rear hatch however I cannot lock it. Do you feel the piece you showcase in this video is all I would need? Thank you in advance, Brian
To get my rear hatch to open when it is cold, it seems I have to hold my hand on the latch for awhile to warm it up for it to sense my touch and open. I have to assume it uses a sensor to determine body heat to operate. Mine will not close when I push the button on the pillar, nor will it open using the dash button. There is something loose inside which bangs around when you slam the hatch closed.
Hi Nathan, using my wife’s account. At 4:41 you mentioned not to unplug the rear door ECU, I think I am having problems now, my rear ECU looks like its dead. I have it unplug for sometime while awaiting parts, can you explain why. Can that have caused damage. Kindly share your experience.I am in a bund on where is the problem. Thanks
I can't get it my hatch to unlock. The handle isn't loose, so I'm assuming it's fine. Sometimes I can just wiggle the handle and it'll unlatch and open. For the last few days, the wiggling hasn't been opening it anymore. I can hear the mechanism locking and unlocking, but it's not unlocking. Does that sound like it's the actuator that needs to be replaced?
Excellent video Nathan 👍have a great weekend I posted another video on my channel my quality doesn’t look good for a first 2 videos maybe I need to update my equipment.
Good video, but why did you say that the Toyota Sequoia don't like it when you unplug those two plugs from that box mounted on that tailgate metal inside cover plate because I did because another guy on a video said you could if you wanted to ?
Hey that's funny, that white PVC elbow in the trunk, we produce those in the factory where I'm working. In fact I am a maintenance engineer in ( steel ) moulds :-)
Toyota has extremely expensive parts! Fortunately, my Tundra hasn't needed too many over the years. Wife's Range Rover Sport? Lots of Ford parts work, so it really hasn't been too bad, believe it or not!

Prices aren't to bad, once fixed you'll probably never have to do it again, really good video my man...

Where did you get those light stands and the light itself? Those look great!
Okay made sure to use your link 🙂🤓👍🏼 thanks for all the helpful content
It is still working perfectly , don't forget to grease it

Did we get a Chris Farley SNL quote 40 seconds in or am I the only one that thinks that?
Nathan any car is good with me . Love the vids
That old one is better, best engine ever

Is that your regular daily car Nathan?
How did you get that actual door open when it was lock was frozen? I replaced a manual custom latch but it's locked Frozen so that doesn't work!

I’d like to know as well

Spray wd40 into the latch its clogged with dirt. I just fixed mine, it was doing the same thing.

so if the lock does not lock and unlock, it's not the lock cylinder not working, but the actuator?

My handle was broke when I bought it, how do you get the hatch open to work on it, will that panel on the inside come off with the back closed?
Yes it will, it’s a pain in the ass but you can get it off
I don’t see the link in the description mine just went out
Its there now, I just fixed it
How do I get the gate open if it's stuck closed?
Sure wish he answered this
What happens if you unplug that panel.. I did mine and now I cannot open my door. How can I fix it?
What happened to the black Toyota Sequoia?
So my issue is weird, i lock my doors and they automatically unlock. Nothing is broken but it did rain today.
It’s 2 years later are you living in a box?
A van down by the river 😂🤣

Will not unlock
