I literally got my first contract for editing this week. It’s nothing exciting. Cut and paste basic editing. $50 bucks an hour 🎉. I’m not the best at story telling or writing content but all my time in editing software gave me enough skill to land this side job. Never give up. And keep learning. 100% learned a few things from Finzar

Can you tell me which software you use and how did you get that job?
@@Vgabound I use Premier. I also have resolve but I prefer Adobe. Plus the company I work for sends me free Adobe stock if I need it and also after effects project files for bumpers and lower thirds. I got the job on upwork. I did a few jobs for them and then they signed me up for a 12 month contract, I’m in talks to join the company as their full time editor after almost a year now

not all famous youtubers hire editors they are some youtubers with over 1 million subscriber without an editors

These videos are just clickbait to get his plugins and such, I have them and they are quality but the elephant in the room no one wants to talk about is people overseas on Upwork charging $5 for a short and expect that short to get 500k views. I suggest you make content on a niche you like and make money from RUclips yourself

This is an idea that I’ve wanted to do for a while, but how do you reach out to different content creators for editing? How do you put yourself out there?
I love editing but I found out that after years of freelance editing, I don't like editing for others. Too much sitting at the computer for my taste. This is a personal feeling, but it's good to discover WHY you're editing. I used to like calling myself an editor but I've realized I should be calling myself a videographer. Editing is fun but it's not everything to me anymore. Surely it can be a great remote job for those that need it and I won't argue that.

It's very difficult to manage time between your own youtube and client's youtube. ImIt's good money but it's difficult if you don't scale up with other editors under you.

RUclips don’t pay hundreds of dollars anymore because they can get someone for $50 in Upwork or even some kid in the states trying to make a name but then realize the hours put in you’ll actually making $1 per video. Outside of the RUclips world, the professional world, RUclips is unfortunately not respected. I personally switched to Motion Graphics and now jobs in that field are thousands of dollars. Love ya Fin and your content but this is the side no one is talking about.

But how do we get clients
One way is to cold email the potential clients you want to work for. They may not answer, but just gotta keep trying until someone does. Make sure they are high paying clients, so that you only need 2-3 clients to make a living.

I got my first client earlier this year but it's been difficult. $30 per video doesn't quite cut it for me. And most of it goes to supporting my family. I feel like I'm lost.
If you really want to be an editor there are some online courses to get you experience and network with editors in the professional industry. RUclips editors unfortunately are not respected outside of RUclips and like you said, we’re not gonna be in our twenties forever. The highest I got up to was $300 a video and the amount of hours and knowledge I have , that’s no where near what I’m valued. Editors outside of RUclips actually can afford insurance and mortgages lol
@@Riquelme00007 I actually want to be a programmer but since I have some experience in editing and it's my hobby I thought I could turn it into a quick buck. But it still ended up being smaller than I expected. I'd be satisfied if I made even $100 a video man.
@@studiosempy that use to be the case but UpWork and overseas people are now doing that same work for $20. I’ve seen actually decent short editors for $5 a short. so these “RUclipsrs” are taking advantage of that and don’t respect the editing craft.
@@studiosempy if you want to be a programmer then don’t waste time here in editing. Maybe 10yrs ago RUclips was a unique way to get into editing but now you need actual training. I was self taught for years then took an online class and realized that I could of saved so much time in learning from online classes that are respected in the industry with certifications. I’m currently in an online school for After Effects. The top RUclips channels that run it like an actual business where they respect editor rates want editors with after effects skills and more if you have. These AI tools have been awesome and help me cut some of my projects in half the time but on the flip side the gigs that would pay good are now done on capcut which is great the bigger channels are NOT being transparent that now as an editor you have to move onto other tools to keep up. Only knowing premier pro and at a low level knowledge won’t get you to have your own apartment, car , a way to support yourself. things that many young editors don’t really think about. If you get to work with a RUclips of 100k+ eventually you’ll realize that majority of them don’t make enough money to pay you what you think your skills are worth. Also they don’t run it like an actual business. I’ve had payments late and so much more shady things. A lot of cool experiences as well. Being a motion graphic artist or just learning AE with premier pro. That’s where the real money is.
