I have a 3 bed cottage in the hills. I am 68 and feel the cold more than ever. As i live alone during the week ive turned my quite large bedroom jnto a winter studio with everything i need. Its very cosy.
Some great tips! I live in an 193 year old stone cottage with internal walls just over 1ft thick. The house is roasting in summer and baltic in winter. I live with my 12 year old son who has a severe heart condition and he really feels the cold. I'm registered disabled and money is difficult, especially in January and I feel such a failure as a mum because he is cold in the house. I simply cannot afford to put the heat on for any length of time. It's a huge cottage and the heat needs to be on for at least 3 hours before it starts to make any difference, I am lighting the stove every morning and keeping it lot to bedtime. It eventually beats the water and brings a slight warmth to the radiators. That way when I put the heat on (oil) it doesn't need to be on as long to make a difference. That said the house still isn't warm enough for him. He goes to his dad's every weekend and this means I don't light the fire or put the heat on until Sunday afternoon. Every weekend I am sooo cold, but thankfully I have an electric blanket on my bed, so when I physically can't bear the cold any more I get into bed to heat up. When I get down, especially at weekends when I'm so cold, I think of the homeless & how horrific it must be for them out in the streets in winter. Happy New Year to you and all the lovely subscribers xx
Great video Lizzy. Amsterdam got a little cold this week. Nothing to worry about although government keeps warning people to watch out and walk like penguins to prevent falling! It was -4 C 😂 Here in apartment I did not put the heating on. First time in 17 years that I live here that I have to cut back on essential costs but at least I have a roof over my head! And... I treated myself to lovely whisky. So snuggled up on the couch with my labrador next to me and glenfiddich in my glass! Life is good😊 Happy to hear you managed to get out of the dark place... we all go through that in life. When stuck it is key to start moving again.. even if it is just little steps.
The little cat does have a home, but I think she is more of an outdoor cat. I don't see her all the time and just worry about her in this cold weather. I have a polystyrene box that has a lid that I have in the garden for her, I've filled it with straw ( as it is warmer than hay and doesn't hold moisture) to keep her a little warmer if she is out in the cold and wet weather. Thank you 💕
Thank you Lizzy I hope your dad feels better Its worse in the winter but it will soon be spring the scarf hack was a great idea you will be able to manage one plot now your working and with your other things and family it wont be so overwhelming its milder here today 4c it has been so cold take care .xx
Further to my comment on your last video I’ve just checked on the Tesco app and they’re selling Silent Night Ribbed Throws for £8 instead of £20 with a club card until the 24th January
Great tips! I was given heavy double lined curtains a few years back so they're up at my front window and front and back doors, it makes a big difference. I also always wear my dressing gown on top of my clothes when I'm home too. Whose cat is it? You sound worried that it's not being looked after.
Love a nice dressing gown too 🙂 I'm not sure who's cat it is, someone on the street but I think she's just an outside cat and she disappears for a while and comes back skinny 💕
I wear loads of layers...the problem that I have is my nose gets really cold and there's nothing you cna do about that! I don't think anyone has invented nose warmers yet!! I have a friend who cannot afford to hav etheir heating on at all, she has even had to switch off her fridge and just buy food that will keep without being refridgerated...its sad...meanwhile the power companies are making huge profits...
Because my nose and chin get cold and I am not a big fluffy scarf person I prefer to do use a silk scarf given as a present light but warm, when I am outside I use my mask takes the edge off
Nods. Pleased to report our new flat is showing itself to be pretty well insulated. I also covered big cardboard in foil and put it up against the windows for additional insulation. And we're benefitting from having a radiator in the bathroom at the centre of the flat, which the old flat didn't have. Thick winter duvet and three blankets on our bed. Oodie and thick socks in constant use.
Last year they did, but it wasn't because of the heating being off. It was due to poor insulation and a leaking roof. I do put the heating on in the morning and in the evening 💕

i can only suggest thrift shop garments made of wool
I know I do the same, look around my flat and think gosh I'm really lucky there are people so much worse off than me. Sending lots of hugs 💕xx
Thanks for demonstrating how to use a scarf as a hood, I'll be trying that!!
It's really easy, but keeps you warm 💕
Me too 😊🇬🇧
My favorite tip was the scarf! I always have one as where Iive is a lot colder than Cardiff. I rarely where a hat, the scarf is a great alternative.
Glad you liked the tip, sometimes when I wear a hat my head gets itchy but the scarf doesn't do that but keeps me warm 💕
OOOH yes we should dig out the thermals for next week.
I didnt know they made long hot water bottles 😊
2 socks, 2 pairs pants, and 2 shirts here. -2 and snowing in KS!
We have snow forecast here, not sure if it's going to happen. I will be doubling up too if it does 🙂💕
Sending warm wishes your way.
Thank you 💕
Thank you for sharing! You look lovely and cosy! x
Thank you 💕

It's usually unneutered boy cats that behave like that, are you sure she is a she?!

That would be a great idea, to invent a nose warmer🙂 makes me cross that they make so much profit 💕
@@frugallizzybee yes they really do not care how people suffer as long as they make money...

I wear leg warmers.

I'm glad the new flat is well insulated, nice little bonus having a radiator in the bathroom 🙂 love thick fluffy socks 💕
If your heat isn't on, do the pipes freeze?
Last year they did, but it wasn't because of the heating being off. It was due to poor insulation and a leaking roof. I do put the heating on in the morning and in the evening 💕
