If only we could live like that again, where law and values were upheld by the majority of people, making a happier and safer environment in which to raise families. I thought the line up of dancing girls, The Rockettes, looked too contemporary for the time, the dress attire more akin to the 60s, also, the girl holding the Shirley Temple doll, is actually Shirley herself. Brilliant video and amazing accurate colouration, I really enjoyed looking at how well groomed every one was, elegant and dignified, can’t say the same for today I’m afraid.
The caption at about 2:21 on the video says "a girl with one of the first Shirley Temple Dolls, 1934". Well that girl in the picture is Shirley Temple herself.😊
There was respect for Christianity - even if you didn't go to church, for Jesus even if you didn't believe, for caring for the poor because its the right thing to do. Could we stop and just start again?
I think what we sorely miss now Stuart is community. Everyone knew their neighbours, work colleagues, who worked in the next door building, who worked over the road, who worked in the pharmacy, the local newsagents, grocery stores, market stalls… we all knew one another, anyone and everyone wanted to lend a hand if anyone was in trouble, in need, lost a loved one etc. As the older generations have sadly passed, it’s almost like everyone has forgotten how to communicate, how to build relations, be respectful of one another, & be kind to each other. Everyone is in too much of a hurry or too ‘busy’ to make time for one another. It’s such a shame. When I was in school we all sang hymns in morning assembly, that stopped years ago as we became a multicultural country, which I have no issue with! But I feel it’s a shame that even if you choose not to be religious, I felt it kept that element of respect, we just grew up at least understanding the basics of Christianity & kindness towards one another.
Or we gained a level of respect for people who followed beliefs other than Christianity. If you do a web search you will see that Americans' per capita charitable donations, adjusted for inflation, have quadrupled since the 1950's. Overall giving has increased sevenfiold.
Could be my mom, lol. My mom's name was Shirley Temple and, what is so uncany is that you would not have been able to tell them apart, curly brown hair and all. I'm guessing that it was a popular name for baby girls born when the actress Shirley Temple was the darling of the silver screen in the 30's. Even though all the pictures of my mother when she was young were destroyed in a house fire later in life, I can always go look up young Shirley Temple Black pictures and remember what she looked like as a kid.
Canned beer was not popular in the US in 1935. Prohibition was in full swing. The picture was most likely from the Netherlands since the cans in the vending machine look like Heineken . Pantages theater is on Hollywood Blvd in Hollywood, not on Broadway in Los Angeles.
Almost all those people are already dead. It must be remembered that we are only guests who will be replaced by new ones. If they still have a place to live. SK
A beautiful homogeneous, sane society. May not have been perfect but it’s a 100 times better than what we have today.
Let’s bring it back.
Thank you for sharing this lovely video!!
Love these great videos... Thank You....By the way that girl holding the Shirley Temple doll is Shirley Temple herself.... Great photo...Greg

Although hard times in the 30's you could feel the Christmas Spirit in America. America was such a wonder country until recently. Beautiful video.

Allen & Co. Produce, selling Christmas trees, near the beginning, looks like it was in Faneuil Hall, Boston.
Thank you for the beautiful video and huge greetings from Russia!

Tks for the excelente videos. Greetings from Brazil
At 2:23, is that actually Shirley Temple with the first Shirley Temple dolls?
Yes.
Πολύ ωραία χρόνια...🇬🇷🙋👌😔
It was hard times during the Depression and yet most survived it. How? A matter of having to survive.
Pictured at 1:47, the Selfridges Department Store is on Oxford Street in London - not in America.
How about a presentation on NYC baseball when the 3 best teams were all in NYC?

@@Dadsezso I’m sorry about your photos. That’s must have been awful to lose so much history in your family. 😔
Yes, it's Shirley Temple.
Nice 😊

Prohibition in the U.S. ended at the end of 1933.
@@stsvaTy. Yes it did.
Can you ask what other old treasures we’d like to upload and have an upload link at the end of the video?
I really miss caroling.

1:28. No way 1933.
Yep. More like late 60's I'm pretty sure these are generate entirely with AI.
@@ggregd The Rockettes were definitely from the 60's, but I'm pretty sure you do not know what "entirely generated with AI" means
@@ggregd Touched up, but not generated.
