Fast forward to 2023 and clearly Kandi Burruss is completely fed up and quite frankly so it her husband Todd. And I think Todd made a pretty good point when he basically said that it’s played out and getting a little toxic because their kids are going to start to grow up and down the line they may resent Mama Joyce for being disrespectful and playing in their daddy’s face.

If Mama Joyce had her way, Kandi would be single for the rest of her life. If Kandi hadn't married Todd or any other man, Mama Joyce, and Kandi's children would be sole heirs to her estate and whatever else. Sometimes I wonder if Mama Joyce even likes herself. Todd is extremely respectful. He doesn't argue with the women of the RHOA cast and he doesn't argue with Joyce. He does his best to ignore her and hold his tongue. I admire him for that, but there will come a time when "a man's fed up" regardless of his love for Kandi.

I don't watch the show and haven't for years, but I do see these clips from time to time, and I do recall how Kandi's mother is. Kandi, for one reason or the other, tends to think it's up to the person being subjected to the backlash and verbal abuse from her mother to "say or do something." Who's really going to do that? It really seems as though she has some sort of guilt complex to appease whatever her mother lost or missed out on in her own life, even at the detriment of her own happiness and living her own life freely.
@ralphangel561 It's even sad that he had to endure all of it as Kandi sat and "smiled" like "Oh, that's just my momma... that's how she is." Her husband has finally confided in her on his position on the whole thing and Kandi has to finally lay out some boundaries.

Nothing burns me up more than when you clearly explain to someone what they're doing wrong and they play like they don't get it. Joyce (I refuse to call her mama) sat there on that couch and said 'that's why I don't even come over here' in response to Kandi telling her that her energy is negative. So she would rather not even come and visit her daughter before she adjusts her attitude. Shameful. I love my daughter-in-law, but if I didnt, I would learn to and I would learn quickly because it benefits MY son. And if something was wrong, I wouldn't be able to see it from the outside.
Also: Kandi feels like setting boundaries equals disrespect and that's dysfunctional. It's exactly the way her mother wants her. Her mother has taught her this type of twisted form of parental respect. Nobody is asking Kandi to curse her mother out and disrespect her. We have all been saying from the beginning that she needs to set some clear boundaries with her mother. Sometimes you have to treat adults like children when they misbehave. If you cannot play by the rules that I set, you go in time out until you can get yourself together.

Life is short and you never want to look back and regret time wasted that could have been filled with being loved the right way. Set the boundaries. Mama is not going anywhere.
Todd is the victim in all this and I feel bad for him. Honestly, I thought after his mom passed that he and Kandi would be over. When they made it past that I knew Todd was disciplined, patient and had control over his emotions. I wish Mama Joyce would see how blessed they are that they found one another in this crazy world!

I'm quite certain that Todd has not impacted Kandi's financial contributions to her mother. Money is the least of their problems.
The bottom line is Kandi will continue to be “passive” when her mother disrespects her husband, friends, staff, etc., and we can’t make her do otherwise. Eventually, Todd will have to make the difficult decision to either stay with her and continue to accept the abuse from her mother or leave and find a woman who will respect, defend, and protect him like a wife should.
I cut my mom off in 2015 for her disrespectful ways and never looked back.

He actually tried to be straightforward and steadfast about his displeasure in the way Joyce speaks about him and to him. He was brow beaten into submission by Kandi into not saying anything about her mother’s actions. He was practically told that’s her mother and she can’t do nothing or won’t do anything. Did I miss the part where Kandi checked Momma Joyce about her husband? It’s always the same conversation . The same old storyline between the 3 of them. Momma Joyce acts like Kandi has a terminal disease the way she has to make sure she’s going to get her piece of the pie in writing. I’ve been tired of her antics from day one. It amazes me how she thinks so little of her daughter, didn’t she raise her? She ought to know Kandi isn’t stupid, she can handle herself- she’s been doing pretty well for herself so far. Personally, I think it has/had to do with her coins…thinking someone’s gonna come in and take what’s “hers”. As long as Kandi condoned her behavior she didn’t feel the need to stop, hell she probably didn’t think she was doing anything wrong. Mother or not, she should’ve been checked a long time ago.

It is well past time for Kandi to address her mother's disrespect of her husband. What Kandi fails to understand is her refusal to deal with her mother on this issue causes not only pain to Todd, the man she claims to love, but also to her children. You don't stand by and allow people to hurt those you love. It is time to act like a grown woman instead of a little girl and deal with this otherwise Kandi is also disrespecting her husband and children. Kandi has a man who stands by her and is building a life with her and their children. Give him thr honor he deserves. Stopping the disrespect is.not.failing to take care of her mother, it is setting proper boundaries for someone who doesn't seem to have any.
I honestly believe Mama Joyce thinks it's all cute what she does and that others find humor in it. I wish she could see how ugly, wrong, and sad it is. She's embarrassing herself as well as her daughter. I understand Kandi loves her mom but its past time for her to put a stop to her, Todd has been beyond patient.
We all have mothers and most of us would do anything for them. In Candy’s case she can probably do a lot more. Unfortunately, the boundaries were surpassed long ago with her and her mama. It will take lots of time and therapy to heal if hearts are willing and open. To let the abuse go on within their dynamic demonstrates there is a place of lack within Candy and her mom’s relationship that’s needs healing first.
This is long overdue. I don’t know Todd, Kandi or Mama Joyce from a can of paint but Todd doesn’t deserve the way she treats him or speaks about him in his face, behind his back and to other people. It isnt any difference when a man’s mother doesn’t like his wife.

Joyce has been the one to oversee her childs financial assests growing up, however Kandi is able to stand on her own and has taken over her business and has done so successfully. Joyce still feels that she is entitled to be who she was and trying to retain that purse hold when it's no longer necessary.
I didn't even know Joyce done had a full husband and her own life the way she all up in her daughter's life just to ensure that she still holds purse strings.
It is so sad that her main focus is on material wealth and not her daughter's well being and happiness. The fact that she would willfully, at every turn disrespect Todd, who clearly loves her daughter and the children they have together thinking he wants his wife's money is beyond disappointing.
Kandi would do best to cut off her mother from every part that counts.
I'm wondering, what took Kandi so long to stand up for her husband? Her mother's main concern is making sure she continues receive money from her money without Todd's interface. Until her mother has a solid relationship like Kandi, she should keep her mouth shut.

I understand mama Joyce being overly protective of Kandi, even though she and Todd have been married a few years now. My grandmother was like that with my aunt. She saw her go through so much and did not want her to have what she worked hard for taken away. My aunt is/was not wealthy by Kandi means, but what she built from her career and kids as a single mother was at stake. She still married this man that my grandmother and others warned her about. He immediately came in and did things that shocked everyone. But as the saying goes if she like it, I love it🙅♀. He has finally showed all his true colors, just as my grandmother predicted. I wish my aunt had listened to my grandmother. I know this differs from Kandi and Todd but I understand mama Joyce being overly protective of Kandi.
