Neon Genesis Evangelion 2 (PS2) - Bad Endings [Subtitled]

Two endings achievable by losing the fight with the Eva Series. The first is a short cut scene where the bridge staff blow up HQ. (I obtained it in Misato's scenario.) The "Seele Wins!" ending is more notable and notorious. Since the game's "good" ending involves a successful Instrumentality, this ending is tasked with providing an outcome that is somehow worse. I don't think it went about this in the best way it could have, but... well, come to your own conclusions.
The minimalistic presentation makes NGE2 enigmatic even by Eva standards, so this sequence is rather perplexing, but fortunately there is additional context to elucidate things. Make sure you check out the Good Ending (also subtitled by me on YT), and especially read through the Classified Information (off the EvaGeeks site ONLY, since this is the version of the translation that I personally maintain).

Thank you as well. Can someone explain the difference between SEELE and Gendo's instrumentality? It's always confused me.

As best I understand it, Seele want to return all souls to the Chamber of Guf, a place that exists outside of the spatial dimensions we (normally) experience, and is closer to their conception of God. They originally wanted to use Lilith as the vessel for this purpose, but once the original Spear of Longinus is put out of their grasp they no longer can (for some reason) and resort to using Eva-01 instead. Since Eva-01 was made from Lilith, it seems she can also access Lilith's Chamber of Guf, so it's all the same in the end. Seele don't care about the body as much as they care about the spiritual destination that body allows them to reach. In any case, the collected souls would be stripped of their A.T. Fields and allowed to become one seamless whole.

Gendo's scenario, in contrast, is framed in terms of Eva-01 being an "ark" for humanity's souls. So whatever takes place is only intended to be temporary. My "head canon" here is that Yui decided that a temporary state of Instrumentality might actually be of benefit to humanity -- since for the first time it would allow genuine understanding of others -- and Fuyutsuki and, later, Gendo decided to go along with this. While intended to be temporary for humanity at large, Gendo of course intends to stay with Yui inside Eva-01 forever, which is what apparently happens in his Eva2 ending. I'm of the opinion that, even in the movie, Gendo got to go with Yui, since his death was depicted by him getting eaten by Eva-01. The last time Eva-01 ate something in the show, it became a part of her, inside her core.
