For me, an ideal format would be like a Persona-esque type game, where you go through the events of the anime, socialize and go to school by day, attend training and sync rate sessions at Nerv and then battle the Angels throughout the year.

Maybe something like persona would work with a few days of walking around tokyo 3 talking, doing simpler missions and stuff and then every few days angels attack, but making this the main focus of the game, and maybe even creating new original angel designs and different ways to take down each angel

I think if you wanted to adapt the mech aspects of Evangelion then a more X-COM style approach would be better, possibly with a sort of visual novel underlayer where you've got to manage the sanity of your teenage pilots. The problem, of course, is that if you stripped everything away except the mech combat from Evangelion then you'd miss the entire point of the series.

It might sound a bit weird, but if you want a legitimately good EVA videogame, i seriously recommend *Neon Genesis Evangelion: Ayanami Raising Project* . Done in the same style as Gainax own "Princess Maker" series, it basically involves around you taking the role of a NERV official getting tasked with taking care of Rei's lifestyle starting from the beginning of the original series well into the End of Evangelion, and depending of your choices, she can develop over 30 different personalities, giving you plenty of potential replay value in order to get the multiple endings the game has to offer. My wife any I were just talking about Evangelion games as we were walking home, and how strange it is that there are so few games that have made it overseas Despite being on of the most influential anime series.
Here is a game-idea inspired by evangelion. It's a roguelike style city-building survival game in which the player is tasked with preparing of any random dooms-day scenario, which may include giant kaiju invasions. With limited time and resources, you prepare the best you can for the situation. It makes involve improving infrastructure (in a tower defense-like sense), improving existing military technology, or risking funds on experimental weapons/tech (like mechas). Like in X-COM (and NERV in the show), you need to keep the cash flow rolling by having meet council member's expectations according to their agenda (which also may be randomized). Every scenario would be different and randomized to keep replayability high. To make it more eva-like, I guess you can have a scenario were you have to defend against waves of giant kaiju whose quirks and abilities are randomized. That makes the player have to adapt in real-time, like the characters in eva.
There is an Evangelion app known as EVA Dawn. Its pretty much a side scroller beat em up with different sets of abilities/movesets for each Eva. Its not too bad but the English isnt so great as some sentences are structured in a weird way.
PS3/PS4 game got really bad reviews but a lot of Godzilla fans consider it fantastic, it's an arcade with some great design and so much reverence to the films, particularly in the visual design. The controls which a lot people call clunky are actually the main appeal for me, they make you feel lik a big, bulky lizard
Xenogears & Zone of Enders games are NGE games spiritually. But if we are talking about the most proper gameplay system for NGE series, it would be a mix of Xenoblade Chronicles X + the overarching plots Trails of series. Both are RPG titles deep with personal connections between each characters. Not only that, both have mecha system too. Imagine of Shinji in range of a more dramatic school & base time, then will get each specific missions to defend the city or into a desolate places for further counter measures. Yes. The levels will be semi open world like XCX.
I think if there ever will be a Evangelion game in the future it should be like Godzilla destroy all monsters melee in gameplay and to those who don’t know what Godzilla game that is that game is a area-like fighting game where you pick a kaiju and fight a CPU or a friend and you can throw around the enemy and knock it into buildings causing the buildings to shatter anyway that would work very well for a evangelion fighting game with its own mechanics in the mix of course.
there was a very good evangelion game called eva dawn. it was on mobile and was essentially a fighter, but the controls and gameplay were very tight and enjoyable. it's not playable anymore, but it was the most fun i'd have with an evangelion or mobile game.
Imagine an entire level where you need to answer "why do you pilot the EVA?" and then later fall into a existential crisis that results in being catatonic or becoming a psychopath. Assuming how you live with killing another person you then choose to stay in VR forever or take off the helmet and must "reject your substitution for reality." I love VR but EVA is so goddamn abstract and beautiful that either a rhythm game or a high quality challenging persona game are the only things that work.
Perhaps a Persona style game would be best. With battles and leveling up on one side, and dealing with everday daily life on the other, requiring a balance of sanity/relationships and friendships alongside increasing your combat abilities.
I haven’t finished the vid yet, but I think the game that captures Eva best is Nier and Nier Automata. Sure you miss out on the mech focused combat (for the most part), but the themes and the way they handle a sci-fi story that slowly falls into madness and depression are basically 1:1.
I wonder if they have a game that is literally just the last two episodes of the original series. Kind of like dream emulator or something. I'd buy the shit out of that.
I really don’t think that Evangelion was adaptable into any other medium aside from TV and Film within the Anime style, however the closest someone possibly would’ve gotten to a video game alternative version of the series would’ve been an armored core style game.

Also don’t forget the 4chan fan ttrpg Adeptus Evangelion!
I’d pay a lot of money to play an Evangelion action-adventure or rpg game, where you can create your own Eva Unit and Pilot and fight alongside Shinji, Rei and Asuka etc. All with current PS5/2021 Graphics. That would be absolutely wild!
I think an Xcom style Eva game would fit especially with some angels causing psychological attacks on the pilots
maybe a mix of persona and armored core would work well
18:13 Saaaaaaandmaaaaan
It would be cool if there was a vr game where you pilot the eva
I fucking love Evangelion, thank you for this 👌
WOW EVANGELION JO LOOKS SO BEATIFUL
which you also touched on the DRW series....
and Xenogears
The mix of action and tower defense gameplay sounds brilliant! Too bad the actual game is painful to play, yeah?
Bruh there’s a game cutscene where Fuyutski gets Shinji to cross dress to look like Yui
This kinda feels as if thats not out of character.
Battle Orchestra looks like Onimusha Blade Warriors (another smash clone)
Maybe a VR game is the way to go, 'cause I'm not just buying a headset for just Half Life: Alex.
I am a simple person. I see Evengelion, I click.
How cool would it be to have a first person evangelion VR game?
Ramiel is best girl.
Ramiel if i remember is just geometry
I wish we had a game for the switch
17:32 how do you get a more up best version of the next episode preview theme? That songs already so upbeat
No mention of the Rei Ayanami child rearing sim? :(
I'm down for an Evangelion: Jo western release, looks pretty cool. I've got a PS Vita, is 3nd Impact on that? Thanks!
Great video
i want a mech warrior eva edition
what about the one suda51 & grasshopper manufacture made?
If someone wants a good Evangelion type-game just play Heaven Will Be Mine
I took a punt on Evangelion after hearing so much about it, and I gotta say; didn't like it. AT FIRST. Because the more it went on, the more interesting it became. And the second half of End of Evangelion? My God . . . possibly the most impacting ending I've ever seen. Stuck with me for weeks afterwards
It's funny to look back at the sharpie-storyboard ending scenes of the Eva tv series in hindsight-- the show's immense popularity caught Gainax totally off guard, their budget was already gone by the last episode and they didn't know what to do with their profits either. (They almost got in some hot water for trying to avoid taxes.)
@@Antiformed Really? I knew budget was an issue for the original finale (not without its merits) but you'd think they'd cough up more moolah the moment it got big
Well that's why End of Evangelion was made, obviously.
EOE IS one of those movies that will make you dumber if you keep watching it.
