it's hard to believe that they're going to be 100 years old pretty soon and their silent movies are 100 years old and they're excellent the Spanish Dracula is great.
Used to have these. Regret getting rid of them. I now have the Frankenstein Legacy set on blu-ray, plus Dracula and Wolf Man on single discs with original poster art on the cover. Those two look beautiful. Never getting rid of them.
There's newer versions of the Universal Monsters Complete Legacy Collections on DVD and Blu-ray. They even contain the Abbott and Costello Meets films.
I bought most of them when they came out. They were great for the exact reasons you listed. They were missing the Abbott and Costello Meets films that were included on the Complete Legacy films. For me that wasn't a problem. Most of the films included on the original Legacy sets were what I consider legit cannon films of the Monsters. There are exceptions (Spoiler Alert - She-Wolf of London doesn't have a werewolf in it, so I consider it a bit of a cheat and shouldn't have been a part of the Wolfman set)
Awesome thanks I know which versions to get if I get these movies. :) And that is dissipointing that the blu-ray versions don't have a ton of stuff on them. :(
Get the Blurays. I have both and Dracula especially is a revelation, the hiss is mostly gone and the image is just amazing. Got my Blu box of all 8 movies for $40 from Amazon.uk. It was easy and they are so much better than the dvd's.
+robert szvetics Yes. These films are just a line item in their budget. Whoever oversees the home video rights and merchandising is probably some 20 something kid who does not care one bit about the films themselves, only the bottom line. They continue to make millions off the monsters, but refuse to remaster the rest to help preserve these classics before it is too late. I heard they were unhappy with the Blu box from 2012, but it was their own greed that hurt sales, charging $150 or whatever for 8 films that have been in the black for decades! If they cared, the 30 film box would be remastered on Blu and cost about $70 bucks!
yes i know and some of the print are just awful the worse i think is frankenstein meets the wolfman it even has a bad jump in the opening credits so you mean that the bluray box set didnt sell enough for them shit what the fuck do they want and you know they could put 2 or 3 films on each bluray blu is suppose to have 5 times the amount of space that dvd has well thanks for getting back to me i hope you had a happy halloween i love deadddddd
well Frankenstein isn't quite completed on it. your just missing Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein. That film has Wolf Man and Dracula. and lastly Abbott and Costello meet The Invisible Man.
