    What Frankel did was amazing and as I detest trying to place horses or sportspeople of different generations - I prefer to call him one of the horses of a lifetime
    I actually spent some of my early childhood in the cottage within Freemason Lodge grounds
    In the summer I spent a lot of time with both Henry and his brother David who also became a trainer
    Incidentally they both died from similar cancers
    Later on I was invited to Warren Place for 1st and second lots of work
    Henry would never tell me that a horse would win but I learned over the years to understand his mannerisms
    But before Frankel had his first race as a 2yo I spoke to him briefly to just ask him how things were going and his reply was - “I am very excited about a colt named Frankel - he is a monster “
    Henry seemed to train on his feeling from the horse - this was so evident with the fillies and mares
    It was fitting that one of the trainers of all time should at the end of his life having trained one of the best horses of all time
    Both special individuals

    A wonderful and heartwarming film. Does anyone else think that there are some parallels between the careers of Tom Queally and Geoff Lewis, who rode the great Mill Reef? (in all his races?) Both jockeys were excellent riders, if never quite considered among the greats, and after reaching the heights of their careers both jockeys surprisingly struggled for rides. One would think that after his masterful handling of Frankel that Queally would be in more demand, but since Frankel´s retirement his obvious talents seem to have been ignored.

    • @subculture2006
      @subculture2006 Год назад

      I think with Queally the death of Sir Henry Cecil was the main reason. Personally I never thought Queally was top class. He made many tactical errors that the likes of Buick dont make with the same frequency. There maybe something else with Queally regarding attitude etc as he has fallen out with a few big trainers who just dropped him. See Fanshawe.

    I thought greatness in the UK/Europe was measured at 12 furlongs? Cecil knew what he had.....the best grass miler of all time. Cecil, through his great training abilities, was able to stretch him out to 10f. There is a reason he never participated in the Arc, was never even considered for the Derby.
    Secretariat was champion on dirt and grass, from 6f to 13f and set world records in both of his turf races. He also set records in each of his Triple Crown races, all 3 which still stand 50 years later. I believe his (Beyer) speed figure in the Belmont, which he won by 31 lengths, was 145, and if memory serves me correct, no other horse has ever broken the 130 mark on the Beyer scale.

    Not even top 10 of all time flat horses. A ridiculous rating that pales into insignificance against the achievements of Sea the Stars, Nijinsky, Golden Fleece, Dancing Brave to name but a few superior horses. You can buy a rating as judmonte did with Frankel to try and contend with coolmore and his father Galileo. Keep him over a mile, don’t risk getting him beat in a derby or arc and your rating will be safe, they didn’t allow for the fact that people can’t be fooled all the time. STS guineas and judmonte were faster and he only ever raced in the last furlong he was so laid back. Frankel rated 7lb higher than STS😂 a guineas, derby and arc winner who was faster than Frankel. Winx 1mile times are faster than Frankel and she raced in Australia, Baaeed had a high rating of 138 without running in or winning a classic, only 2 lbs behind STS😂 gimme a break ffs, Shadwell trying to buy a rating to contend with his father STS just like judmonte bought Frankels rating to contend with his father Galileo, corruption is rife in racing, especially at the top, but you can’t fool the people who know.

      Mael Morda -Well I thoroughly enjoyed the story; he and his trainer were champions and brave in their own way. Where Frankel ranks in the annals of horse racing hardly matters just like as to who is/was the best footballer Pele, Maradona, Messi or Ronaldo etc etc.
