- Everyone has a favorite singer that immediately commands your attention from the moment you hear their voice. In this video I feature a set of ten female vocalists that do just that for me. Narrowing down this list of particular artists/albums to feature was not an easy chore. From modern day rock, to 60’s soul, and classic country…here are my choices for female vocalists that truly make my jaw drop.
✶ Talking About Records is presented by NTX Vinyl, a boutique vinyl record shop in Highland Village, Texas (2240 Justin Rd, 75077 - located inside Painted Tree Marketplace). Open 10am-8pm, 7 days a week ✶

Kate Bush would have been at the top of my list. She's an icon and a one-of-a-kind musical genius. Norah Jones "Daybreaks" and Fiona Appel "Tidal" are both fantastic picks, and both have phenomenal sound quality.
I recently found ‘in the wild’ a ‘71 pressing of both Carole & Joni.
As you say they each could be a greatest hits as nearly every song was a big hit or is very well known but to think they were both released in the same year…wow.
Right?!? Such classic
I always dig the tea shirt selection!
Thanks!
Love Heart Ann and Nancy Wilson
Great stuff! Look forward to checking out some of those.
Love Aretha I say a little prayer.
I love that your choices are not the usual ones for this type of list. It will introduce singers to those that haven’t given them a try. Norah Jones seems to get left off of people’s top ten but maybe that’s because she’s still our contemporary. Her voice melts me down to a puddle of goo. Kudos for mentioning Anne Wilson too. She doesn’t get enough deeper consideration of her greatness.
Thanks for watching!!!! ✌🏻
I'm amazed that you could narrow it down to ten!
There are so many female artists whose voices just floor me, and each one usually has quite a few albums that i love.
And they represent pretty well every genre of music.
To bring it down to just ten would be impossible for me!
., . . . OK, so I was familiar with all on this list except for Alabama Shakes.
So I immediately went to RUclips and watched a couple of live performances from SNL.
. . . Wow! What incredible energy! Love it!
It wasn’t easy that’s for sure! And yes….Brittany Howard from Alabama Shakes is amazing. Great band!
The female voice that moves me the most will celebrate 60 years on Columbia Records this fall, her name, Barbra Streisand. She has maintained her popularity after 5 decades.
Babs is unmatched in vocal ability!
Good video for inspiration, New / Old music. My jaw dropping female vocalist list would have been different. A few which i think are worth mentioning are Kate Bush, Ella Fitzgerald, Feist, Lera Lynn and Cat Power. Thx for an interesting vinyl YT channel 👍
Enjoyed hearing about your top ten . Some that I enjoy in no particular order are Karla Bonoff ,Tracey Chapman , Sylvia Hutton , Olivia Newton John and of course Ricky Lee Jones . Going to check out your other videos . Vinyl is such an engaging hobby & most of mine are $ 1 - 2 thrift store finds
Thanks for watching! Some great ones there for sure.
One of the best records ever made, featuring a female vocalist, is the Sheffield Lab direct to disc recording of Thelma Houston and Pressure Cooker "I've Got the Music In Me"
Will have to check that out!!!
CONNIE FRANCIS must be the number 1 of all time. You must try her 1960 lp SPANISH AND LATIN AMERICAN FAVORITES. THE FEMALE VOICE OF ALL TIME
Please give Grace Cummings a listen, her voice will shake up your world
Etta James deserves a spot on any list of female vocalists and she'd be up at the top of mine.
She was on my list for sure. Just couldn’t find a way to get her in top ten.
@@NTXVinyl speaking of female vocalists..have you heard of Haley Reinhart?
I love late 60's early 70's Aretha Franklin albums. After that she hoots and hollers too much.
Hello, how about Barbra Streisand, Billie Holiday, Carmen McRae, Beth Hart, Janis Joplin ? How about your Top 10 Jazz/Blues Vocalists. Love your channel. Keep up the good work !! JK
All great! Add Dinah Washington and Eva Cassidy.
AND ONE OTHER THING, I KNOW SO MANY OTHER FEMALE VOCALISTS THAT COULD EITHER COMPETE WITH THOSE PICKS OR JUST STRAIGHT BODY THOSE. IT'S VERY HARD TO PICK A TOP ANYTHING FOR VINYL IN ANY GENRE.... JUST MY OPINION, PLEASE DON'T TAKE IT THE WRONG WAY ANYONE.
What? No Adele?
Nope. No Adele.
you talk about playing records? you're better off listening to them
I do that quite a bit as well. I promise.
@@NTXVinyl just joking haha.
