Ever since the functionality of torches acting as NOT-gates was implemented you were able to do crazy stuff. Processor, memory, display. Can all be realized with redstone dust and torches.
@@andromeda9340 Actually on bedrock redstone isnt so hard, every bug and weird activity is there fixed, making redstone not so confusing, but weird that a lot of things just doesnt work!
I remember making a Redstone word processor years back. It used some fairly bulky and slow logic gates and piston memory but i'm still proud of it, it could output a 24 character sentence but took an absolute age to write to the memory. Nowadays that same build could be done with a single command block.
i am a redstoner! it's my favorite part of the game and i have made map displays, working pacman, and am now working on an 8-bit computer. at some point i want to make a simple 3D rendering engine on one of my map displays.
The main thing about hoppers and droppers was they created a new discipline which was storage tech that allowed players like me to use these redstone computers for something that actually was more useful than just display a number.
In some ways the level of engineering back then still impresses me over some of the newer builds just given the limitations and given the fact that I don't think a computer had even been "built" in a game before then. It's quite an important milestone for Minecraft and gaming as a whole really.

Great work as always and thanks for making these videos!

When I was introduced to Redstone, I felt like I can do everything. It was absolutely amazing. Now, I can call myself lucky if I can follow what Mumbo Jumbo is saying, which more often than not, doesn't happen. I will admit that I'm one of those people who say that Redstone is Easy, but I will also say from firsthand experience that the bigger your contraption is, the harder it is to understand.
@@TheMisterEpic I love Redstone, it's the first things I've done when I first played 1.7.10, and till this day, I still love it even though I now focus more on datapacks Speaking of, you should make an "Evolution of Modding in Minecraft" that mentions datapacks and add-ons.
Well, the issue with redstone is that the seperate machines are fairly simple in how they work. Aside of detection blocks, theyre not hard to understand since most redstone components are signal receivers or logic components. Now, we also have confusing comparatprs and less confusing observers. Tge thing is, it is logically easy on its own. But just like logic contraptions, its the combinatiom of components and hiw they intetact that make redstone being so complicated
I want to give a shoutout to Cubehamster for being one of the few who used to push redstone to it's limits (like his 14 floor elevator). Especially in slimestone. I mean, he designed his own missiles and timed bombers. I rarely see people do stuff like that now.
It's interesting to hear about things that I have first hand experience with, explained like this. Redstone is incredible. So many things would never be possible that imagining the game without is almost un-fathomable to imagine the game without it. The Redstone Update solved an issue that I have with so many games that have storage like Terraria and Stardew Valley which is terrible storage management. Adding in more item transportation, automation and item filters while still being challenging and rewarding to design is one of the best things Minecraft has done imo. Ever since the addition of hoppers and comparators I've never been annoyed/frustrated at Minecraft's storage management ever again.. unlike Terraria, Stardew Valley and a few other games with a billion items. Also Shulker Boxes were an amazing additions too. The only thing this game does sorta lack is inventory management but storage is perfect in the game.
