Years ago, An older skunk and an adult opossum Moved into my garage for a cold and brutal winter. They were darling and respectful. I fed them throughout that winter. They both moved on in the spring. Mother opossum brought her babies back to visit. The Skunk and opossums
Absolutely precious. Love these little fellows. My elderly mother feeds them on a little plastic dish. One of the possums was pregnant one year, and several times we found her banging the little dish at the glass door (saying, "it's dinnertime! May I have my dinner now, please?") She was a delight. No understanding whatsoever of people that are cruel to these adorable critters. ❤
I have 2 in my yard...they are awesome. Sometimes they let me pet them and when I do they stop and take it all in. It must be an experience for them to be touched like that. Now they KNOW me and that I must pet them. So they stop and let me. So cute!!!!
I've noticed since all the lockdowns YT is digging deep into it's vaults and rereleasing more of the avg person let me put this on YT stuff cause people are getting tired of all young people acting stupid stuff just for likes and money
I love opposums. They are so sweet and they eat ticks. I feed mine, too. They love apples, too. I put out heated cat houses I bought on Amazon in the winter for them.
@frank26080115 Functionally immune. It's incredibly unlikely for them to contract it, mainly due to their internal body temperature, but there is still a possibility. Just not something you'd need to be as concerned about compared to, say, a raccoon.
Such lovely creatures, we don't have them UK. I don't understand why people hurt them when they eat ticks and keep bugs down, they're awesome! I love the little spaced out toes too!😀💖
Thanks, beautiful catch of a friendly guy, mature, and wary but not put off. Grapes always a hit and their appearance seems to bring the worst out of some people to abuse them for no good reason.
I moved to Washington state about a year ago and I’ve encountered these guys a couple different times their very scared of humans I think it’s because many people treat them so poorly and are mean to them if you leave them alone they will leave you alone and I’ve asked them to leave and usually they will just back off and go away if not I just go back inside my house and leave them alone and sometimes if you leave them out some food they won’t get into your trash cans you have to learn to live with the animals instead of just eliminating them because they’re in inconvenience this is their area as well I think it would be better if we all learned to share and treat animals around us with respect
My nightly visitors spit the grape peels out. I feed them green grapes. I noticed you were feeding red grapes. I wonder if there is a difference for them? Very cute video.
Lovely commentary and a good lesson to people who are terrified of these gentle sweethearts! Especially threatening to bat people who bat opossums. You're a hero, sir.
I don't really get how people think opossums are ugly and to be feared... i mean with any wild animal you should be somewhat cautious especially if the animal had been hurt by humans before, but opossums are just as precious as any other animal.
He is awesome you're lucky you got a friendly one that let you get so close that's an awesome blessing to be able to sit there and interact with a wild possum that's friendly I pray for his safety and I thank you for sharing your wonderful experience I feed a baby when every night but I have to stay in the house or he runs away LOL but I put cat food and fruit and he eats it all up
Very true! Even when they get defensive and open their mouths trying to look threatening you can literally stick your finger I. And they won't (usually) bite. They'll leave their mouth open and let you pet them lol. They hate fighting.
I don't understand how some people can think that these animals are aggressive. They are a ball of fur with small legs; they aren't fast animals, they don't have the shape for being an aggressor.
Hi my name is kristi i love oppossum's i am both a stray cat magnet & a oppossum magnet i feed & help the stray cat's & i always have oppossum's as well that come for the food too & i don't mind that at all i have been able to sit with them while they eat last year my dog got a mother oppossum & one of the 8 baby's & i raised the other 7 baby's for 6wks they were at the age of being weaned & i released them in a wilderness place 6 mile's away & i have never had any problem's with them because instead of throwing the excess food away in the trash & then have them come & tear the trash bag's apart for the food i just give it to them so they never bother my trash bag's i help any type of animal that need's me i have always loved oppossum's they don't bother anyone & it's nice to see them come to visit once i forgot to put out the food for them until in the middle of the night & i got up out of bed to put out the food for them & at the place where i put out the food there was a stray cat & a large oppossum sitting on opposite side's of the empty plate just peacefully waiting to be fed & keeping each other company while they were waiting for the food i am happy to have them around my house i also was just about to have pizza once & there was a noise at the door & it was a oppossum trying to get into the house for it's share of the pizza too
The baseball bat comment you made, I'm with you 100% brother! People can be real A-Holes sometimes! P.s. we like our backyard friends too, (skunks, opossums, raccoons, etc).
I don't understand the hatred towards possums. They are cute, and as an added bonus they are natural pest control due to eating insects, and being scavengers they are part of nature's clean up crew. They are awesome little animals and I adore them!
I want to love them. I see videos like this and think Aw that’s kind of cute but one incident I had with them has scared me silly. I was going to lock up our chickens for the night and my flash light had died so I decided oh I’ll be fine. There was some amount of light coming from the house so I could go out and simply lock up the coop. Anyways, after I finished locking up i heard a crack and look down and right in front of me is this possum. I didn’t realize it was an animal and assumed oh maybe it’s a ball or something so I tap it with my foot and it didn’t move for a second. A couple moments go by before it slowly moves it’s white head to face me. Now...it was super dark outside but some of the light reflected off it’s face or something because all I saw was a ghostly stretched face with black eyes before I booked it to the house. I fell asleep just soooo shaken up by this thing. Possums are great! Lol
I don't know where mine is right now, he lives free in my bedroom with me, they're amazing at hiding! Loves grapes, bananas, Apple's, eggs, Turkey skin, chicken, fish, sweet potatoes or canned dog or cat food, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc...anything that you eat...pizza! Also mine is not all that friendly, he's not a lap possum...I do scratch and pet him but I don't handle him, he doesn't like it.
We dont have them in England, unfortunately, but we have badgers, the European ones not the aggressive ones some countries have, who are as docile as your visitor unless provoked or cornered. I have been feeding them for about 15 years by hand, keep trying but wash your hands with scent free soap first.
We used to set out big cage traps to get raccoons who were making a mess in our shed. We would shoot the raccoons but let the possums go. The possums however kept getting it into their head that the cages meant free food xD
Now, if your neighborhood had an overpopulation problem with those things, i would understand having to kill some to prevent them from, i.e., ravaging your garden or your crops, or giving the rabies to your cat/dog, stuff like that But if there isnt an overpopulation or predation issue, leave the animals alone or befriend them. Dont take a bat or a gun to them
@@Atzy i was giving possums as an example because they were the animal discussed in the video But the same goes for any animal. As long as theyre not overpopulating, damaging crops or threatening the safety of your family (pets included), you shouldnt treat an animal as hostile / a threat
Very cute! But if they have rabies they will attack unprovoked. Pests and rodents are known to carry disease. That’s why people kill them. You guys should have already know. This.

Thank you for caring for them
Aaaaaaaawww
Great story man thanks for sharing 😄
I would have loved to see that.
Imagine how much the world would flourish if everyone did stuff like this for Mother Nature
this is so much nicer than seeing people tower over them and pet them because they're not actively biting or running away
Absolutely precious. Love these little fellows. My elderly mother feeds them on a little plastic dish. Love how passionate this dude is about possums
The possum is adorable but the best part of the video is how casually Australians talk about taking a bat to someone 😆😆
This grown man baby talking a wild possum and feeding it chopped grapes so it can't choke is just the most precious thing I've ever seen.
Arent you just a little ray of sunshine
I have 2 in my yard...they are awesome. Sometimes they let me pet them and when I do they stop and take it all in. It must be an experience for them to be touched like that. Now they KNOW me and that I must pet them. So they stop and let me. So cute!!!!
aw, wow!
You're so lucky, I'd love to have them, but we don't have them here.
How does this video only have 300 views? That's the cutest thing I've seen all year

Opossums are wonderful animals, its a shame people think that they are aggressive and have rabies, despite having a super high tolerance to it!
That's weird, literally the first thing I have ever heard about opossums is that they are immune from rabies, I thought that was their defining trait
@frank26080115 Functionally immune. It's incredibly unlikely for them to contract it, mainly due to their internal body temperature, but there is still a possibility. Just not something you'd need to be as concerned about compared to, say, a raccoon.
“I’d like to take a baseball bat to people who take a baseball bat to these” 😂
Hero of the century right there.
He is adorable. People should not harm these beautiful babies.
Some reason opossums make me laugh. They are just kinda funny looking
They are cute! They are so used to people yelling and chasing them they get confused when someone is nice to them
I’ve got multiple cats, raccoons, and opossum in my backyard. I always feed them.
Such lovely creatures, we don't have them UK. I don't understand why people hurt them when they eat ticks and keep bugs down, they're awesome! I love the little spaced out toes too!😀💖
They are amazing!!! And love red grapes even babies when they are being weaned

This video is so wholesome, put a big ol smile on my face
he’s such a sweetheart :’(
He was just waiting for the chance to leap through that window and rip your face off....JUST KIDDING! They really are remarkably gentle.
They are so misunderstood. They are excellent for the environment. The hiss when frightened but rarely bite. ❤
So adorable.

I agree with everything you say in this video. I feed a wild opossum in my back yard, as well. I feel sorry for them, being so maligned as they are.
My nightly visitors spit the grape peels out. I feed them green grapes. I noticed you were feeding red grapes. I wonder if there is a difference for them? Very cute video.

I always look at them as rat cats lol. They honestly have such a cute face to me.

That was a fat ass possum. Cute fella, but he's not missing any meals

I don't think there is such a thing as an unfriendly Opossom! You might find a scared one though.
Some wild opossums can be quite friendly. :)
He looks like a nice friendly chap!
These are very beneficial critters. They eat lots of ticks ( which are much more dangerous). They seldom get rabies.
Such a sweet and beautiful creature!

I have a possum that comes into my tent every night for two months.I feed him Sardines and two hard boiled eggs.He love it.

Of course, the guy we're hearing is from Australia where even some of the plants will kill ya. I guess everything is harmless after that ;)
Possums look like they should get as big as tigers.
Beautiful little guy

An Aussie with practically the only non-Australian marsupial?
I love them. Makes me feel good u do too 👍
Opossum are super kind.
I ❤ you sweetheart ❤ you're probably in heaven now in cpany of God and your oppossum friends ❤
Handsome young man
They only live 3 years.
Lil swamp kitty
cutest nom nom nom 😊
Baby. I agree with you about the baseball bat.
I relate to that opposum
Cuuuute!
That’s a good tlacuache
This is good content
Until they eat your chickens...nothing personal, it's just business.
More inclined to eat the eggs than the chickens. They are scavengers too, not predators, are you sure it was an opossum and not a raccoon or coyote?

Fun fact: rabies is rare in opossums due to low body temperature.
They are neither pests nor rodents. They even eat ticks!
They dont carry rabies their body temperature is too low
