@LaggingLeland Well don't forget and realize it is the 1950's, which aliens were a thing then. And if you think a little deeper, Most of the Indiana Jones movies could reference some kind of alien connection anyway. So I say, the alien thing made sense and fitting. What annoyed me however was that they were interdimensional beings LITERALLY forced in for the story. Peace ✌
Aliens should be fine for anyone who knows their film history. Lucas and Spielberg made Indiana Jones as an homage to the films they saw as kids, and in the 1930s there were movies like King Kong, a Tarzan series, Lost Horizon, and other movies that were all about seeing exotic places and adventure. The first three Indiana Jones movies went back to that time, and people ate it up. With Harrison Ford getting older, it made sense to move the story to the 1950s. So then there's the Cold War to deal with, the space race had begun, and quite a few movies came along about aliens from other planets and other science fiction ideas. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull tapped into all those things, and I'm glad that it did. Even Mutt's character was a nod to some of the young new actors from that decade like Marlon Brando and James Dean. I don't know what everyone else was expecting, but for me it was a fine movie.
It’s really hard to talk about Helena Shaw from Dial of Destiny as a character because she’s got some redeemable qualities I actually feel the need to defend but her arc is entirely stolen from Mutt Williams and Mutt, the estranged son of Indiana Jones, is more deserving of that arc in every way. He’s headstrong, rebellious, courageous, and has a strained relationship with his father- just like Indy himself. He’s a clear mirror to Indy. Helena is just the daughter of another friend Indy had back in the day that we never heard about. If she was the daughter of Marcus Brody, I’d be a little more forgiving. And before anyone says anything, I know Shia was never going to come back. And the movie actually respects his character’s death, although it still didn’t need to be written.
I was able to convince a handful of people who said multiple times that this movie is trash just by saying that it is worse than the og trilogy but if you stop comparing it in every detail to the og than it is a good and enjoyable moment. That's all what it took to convince them. I think that really shows how oberhated it is.
I really do like these movies about Han Solo hunting down Treasures while the Republic drive to find him through weird crystal skulls can't wait for them to make Harrison Ford Clone to make more... dang it I forgot.. Oh yea Indianapolis Jonathan movies weird name but I'm not going to question Michael Bay
Oh look it's the guy from TRANSFORMERS 1 and the hit sequel Transformers Revenge of the Fallen and the third in the Epic Blockbuster Trilogy Dark of the Moon
It’s a ok Indy movie. The failure is on the antagonists. Not that it can’t be the soviets. But the movie has a hard time portraying they as the villains. With a better villain all the pieces would fall into place.
The second had its problems as well. I think the issue is more attempts at serializing and movement away from Indy as a holy warrior. Maybe it just isn't for modern audiences.
I don't understand your problem with accepting that mutt Williams is Indiana Jones's real son, it really starts to get annoying you can't accept reality about a fictional character is pretty ridiculous and pointless because mutt is Indiana Jones's real son, I mean seriously you keep calling Indiana Jones mutts father figure, actually oxley was mutts father figure, and then say after Indiana Jones and Marion Ravenwood get married, Indiana Jones adopts mutt, mutt is Indiana Jones's and Marion Ravenwood's biological son, you do not adopt your own biological son, Collin Williams Marion Ravenwood's first husband and mutt's stepfather that he thought was his real father adopted him, that's why he went by the name mutt Williams, Because Mutts real Birth name is Henry Jones the third, or did you forget that real fact, Like you did all the facts, because you wanted too it doesn't work that way. Facts and reality is not an option.
I think because Mutt is featured most heavily with bad CGI like the sword fight on the moving cars and swinging with the CGI monkeys people think his character is worse than he actually is. Although Shia is a slight miscast as I don't believe him as a "tough guy" he also isn't horrendous either.
It seems to me that the haters don’t seem to realize what these films are supposed to be. They are tribute to the bee, movies made in the times in which these films are set. In the 1950s, these flicks featured Russians/Cold War, baddies, atomic age/nuclear threats and scares, giant bugs, and… Is Indian himself says, “saucer men from Mars“. Sure… There’s a few stretches, as there are in all of these flicks. . TBH… I will watch Crystal skull anytime over Temple of doom! Actually… I will watch dial of Destiny anytime over Temple of doom! Don’t get me wrong! I was there for Temple of doom opening day, I’ve owned several copies in several formats, and someone actually do enjoy the flick. But the “shiny” look of the film, Joined with the absolute, annoying Willie, Scott, a lot of iffy, special effects, the fact that Ford is not always on screen when Indian is, and obviously, so… The whole raft fall from the plane thing, so many lame, impossibilities, in fact… Too many of them, for me, Make it the weakest link in the chain for me! Sure… Dial of Destiny is not a perfect flick, and Spielberg behind the wheel was definitely missing, however… My friends, and I enjoyed it in the theater, and I’ve seen it twice already. I have no objection to going to see it again! I think a lot of people need to realize that these are just entertainments. They’re not real, true-to-life stories. They’re just action fantasies, and not to be taken so.damned seriously.
I saw a really good fan edit of this film. You remove some of the bad stuff and a 6/10 film gets bumped up to a solid 7. I just wish someone with a background in computer animation could fix some of the terrible cgi like the throne room scene.

The dial of destiny makes Kingdom of the crystal skull look like the last crusade.
Indy is Indy here instead of being Old Han Solo's equally grumpy clone.

Yep, never truly a bad film.
