- Aprilia returns to the Adventure Touring category with the release of the highly-anticipated Tuareg 660 and doesn’t disappoint with a solid spec sheet featuring a 660cc parallel-twin powerplant with 80-horsepower and 52 ft-lbs of torque, a fully-adjustable KYB suspension with 9.5 inches of travel and ground clearance, dirt-friendly 21”/18” wheels, plus and a healthy assortment of standard options and configurable electronic rider aids all wrapped in a compact, lightweight chassis. I came off a 640 KTM adventure and a 990 adv …. Years ago when KTM was really pushing the adv/ dakar challenge …… Aprilia with this Touraeg is reliving and making new headway with this awesome 660 !!!! I just purchased my 660 last evening and I pick it up today !!
This video is simply awesome to hear and see the way this bike handles !!! I can’t wait to get back into venturing into the unknown off road again … thank you adv pulse for putting out such a awesome review and doing a awesome job in promoting what the human spirit is truly about .
I have seen many reviews on this bike and this is one of the best, great work! This looks like a modern version of my old Transalp that I rode around the world. I had hoped to get a T7 last year but they were impossible to get. This bike looks better than the T7, especially with the tubeless wheels and electronics. Hopefully it will be reliable too, but tough to top Yamaha. Italian bikes have come a long way with reliability however. And my Aprilia dealer is only a mile away. In any case, I decided to order the Tuareg 660 for myself! Super excited to get this bike!

My dream bike. Better looking than a 790, better suspension than a Tenere and more power. That engine sound is awesome.
This looks like the goldielocks bike I've been waiting for. I'm just not sure about Aprilia's reliability. Sorry Honda, but you've dragged your feet with the Transalp/Halfrica Twin, looks like you've lost a sale.
Should test it with full adv rig, saddle bags and panniers.

I can’t wait for it to arrive in USA ! I’m very glad that The Tuareg will be like a T700 but better, with everything else the we want, tubeless tires , great display & cruise control 👍👍
Many riders like the price of the T7 or just want the bare bones electronics regardless of price. But it's great that Aprilia is filling the gap for those willing to pay a little more for the full array of features, while keeping the weight/size of the T7.
@@robdabney1898 it's 40lbs lighter than the t7. It's the total package but it comes at a cost.
Edit: Google says it's curb weight is just under 450 so I'm less enthusiastic about it but still a great bike. We need more adventure bikes
@@robdabney1898 T700 is the most reliable, most expensive piece of junk. Where would Yamaha be without their fans blindly buying that colossal piece of crap. T700 is fundamentally flawed, but Yamaha didn't care because they were dead sure that their fans would just buy it with eyes closed.
@@ardmrad9278 why is it “fundamentally flawed”? I certainly don’t like the welded subframe design but other than that the T7 has a great reliability reputation.
@@C_R_O_M________ That's how T700 and most Yamahas are sold. Based on words of mouth and fanboyism. T700 is an afterthought motorcycle that is fundamentally flawed. How? It has a massive engine that sits very high in the frame of MT07, very high fuel tank therefore very high COG which translates into a very top heavy bike. suspension are total crap, the weight distribution is as if it's done by some goat herder. Unfixable jerky throttle, small fuel tank, small scooter brakes with discs coming off of again mt07. What else? It can't be ridden 2up without serious and costly modifications. Zero electronics. If it was 5k I wouldn't mind, but it's nearly 12k. The desert raid version is 14.5k 😂 Yamaha must be laughing that their fans pay 14.5 to get a flawed bike with sentimental paintjob and gold rims.
Sure it's engine is reliable, but then any 10:1 compression ration build by anyone would be reliable. And the best thing is that it has a huge aftermarket parts and you can put 30 different bash plates and 900 different types of engine guard and 1 million different exhaust cans.
Good value assesment, and useful review, thanks. Most common riders complaint on the T7 is it's high center of gravity, it is way top-heavy!!!. How is the Tuareg 660?

It has everything I wish Yamaha had put in the T7. Definitely will give it a look if my closest dealer decides to bring some in.
If they did, then T700 would be named Tuareg 660. T700 the most reliable piece of junk.

The question is whether or not Aprilia can build enough of them!? I anticipate this bike to be a hot seller that will likely attract a lot of T7 buyers who still don't have bikes. If I didn't already have a 890 I would be headed down to my Aprilia dealer right now to put a deposit on one, very excited for the future of this bike.

Thanks for the feedback Matt! From our first impressions it seems to check a lot of boxes. Looking forward to getting it out on tougher terrain once we get a test unit in the coming months. But this is definitely a more aggressive off-road tool than the V85TT.

Dang..Not a lot of aprilia dealers close to me so i have been overlooking this bike but i might be reconsidering..

Very interested in this bike, but their dealer network is way to sparse out here in the west. I don’t want to drive/ride 400 miles to get it worked on under warranty.
Can you measure and compare how much strength is needed and how difficult it is to lift this bike after it's Fallen compared to the BMW 1250 + and the Yamaha t700?

6:37 Check how much bottom plate bends when hit by a rock. Its only purpose is to look offroady and to not increase the weight.
I have a KTM 990 Adv which is getting old/ high mileage and more and more expensive to run with the already short service intervals, getting spare parts or even a liter of oil (the high quality stuff) can be quite a challenge at home let alone traveling. I wonder how this Tuareg will do on reliability, service intervals and overall maintenance. I would take the Yamaha T7 over landing around the world…, not sure about the Tuareg though (nor my KTM)
offroad abs on the front with the back disabled is a no brainer for me ... (n/a on a Yamaha Tenere)
load it up with hard boxes and go around the world on it?

yes it sure does. i love AT but its enormous. this checks the right boxes for me

According to Aprilia, it takes an oil change every 6,200 miles and valve checks are every 12,400 miles.

Much appreciated Roman! I think these two bikes are very different. The V85TT is more of a casual cruiser, great for longer-rides and light off-road. This Aprilia is lighter, smaller and has a much more aggressive feel both on and off-road. Its closest competitors would be more performance-oriented machines like the Tenere 700, Tiger 900 Rally and KTM 890R.
What does it cost and is it available in the USA?

Would have been nice if the reliably of the engine was talked about. Since it was said that the engine has been around the Aprilia brand for a while.
Will need to book a ride for myself on this model. Came from a f800gs 1st gen, really disliked the looks, but loved the 60tkm I put on it. The engine chucked some metal in the oil at 80tkm, so I bought a crf1000 way to quick. That's such a people pleaser, great bike, but very little excitement and connection with the rider.
Now this is a light, less attractive looking bike with some power, it might be perfect for me?

I wonder how the aftermarket will support this bike. I like the specs, but I truly hate the fascia. The worst I have seen in years. Also, is it me or are legs cramped because of the low seat?
Not to take anything away from ADV Pulse, but I find this the same as every other press launch 'overview' I say overview because it's not a review. The real reviews will come when they and others actually their hands on a bike in their own countries for some proper testing. We (collective) should start having these for the Norden soon as they are already shipping. For the Tuareg ones are going to be a while.
Do you really think that Norden 901 is a new and different bike than KTM 890? If yes, then you must be deluding yourself. It's the same piece of crap as 890, only not as ugly.
@@ardmrad9278 No I think it's a dressed up 890. doesn't a proper tried and tested review won't be interesting. 890 ADV R is probably the best all purpose ADV bike out there at the moment.

Looks fun, but anything that considers the heat sheild on the exhaust pipe, and crank case a skid plate.... it's really just a road bike with excess suspension travel. Looks fun, just not on anything more than a gravel road.
It actually looks pretty good for a stock adventure bike. You can always upgrade to a thicker aftermarket plate anyway. Even a KTM 500 EXC has no skid plate.
Lost me at "handles like a sportbike" im sorry but as a rider with 15 years experience on the road riding all sorts of motorcycle categories... stating that it handles like a sportsbike I think stiff, slow steering, no steering lock and harsh on rough roads. Journalists need to stop and think about what they're saying.

Ya its all fine an dandy new but give it a few rides and that aprillia gremlin will show its face and you'll be sitting on the side of the trail waiting for help. These bikes have ZERO reliability!!!

Great review however one major fail. It's freaking ugly. I thought the 790 KTM was bad, this is a close second. 🤮🤮🤮 Might look better in the all black.
Ha haa. I didn't care for the look of it either at first. But seeing it in person, it grew on me a lot. As mentioned in the video...'jury is still out on that" Although, I think it's one of those unique styles that might be more appreciated over time.
The KTMs are butt ugly to almost everyone. But, like many bikes, this will be attractive to many. I like it and think it's better looking that the Tenere 700.
