  • HENRY CHARLES BUKOWSKI was born Heinrich Karl Bukowski, German, on August 16, 1920 and passed away on March 9, 1994. He was a German-American poet, novelist, and short story writer.
From his home city of Los Angeles, he influenced the social, economic et cultural environment through his work. The so called ordinary lives of impoverished Americans, joined with his thoughts on the act of writing, the reality of alcohol's intoxication, the difficulties pertaining to relationships with women, along with everything related to work, made a platform on which Bukowski wrote thousands of poems, hundreds of short stories and six novels. He published over 60 books.
During his lifetime, despite not having received much attention from the critics of American academia, Bukowski did profit from imposing fame throughout Europe, notably in Germany where he was born. Poems like One Tough Motherfucker, Bluebird and All The Way resist and persist in maintaining his audience even after his death.

Bukowski is not really a woman's poet or writer. But after reading about his life and the hard life he had, I sort of forgave him. And nowadays I write a poem a day. About things I see, feel, regret etc. So - Charles - your work truly had an effect on my life.

@normadesmond6017 i can understand what you are saying i think...he is kind of a philanderer, probably used alot of women for s*x, is that what you meant? Or maybe like he kind of wanted women to take care of him, rather than have an equal partnership? i would love to know what you mean, just bc i'm a woman and i have loved him since the first poem i read of his. One of my favorite poets of all time. So your comment got my attention, would love to know why you say not a womens writer? Genuinely curious, not picking a fight with you at all!!!. and I love that he has an effect on you, he does me too!! He was an inspiration to my own poetry that i wrote in college, so that's cool you write too. Thank you!

Plenty of women loved Bukowski back when he was alive and successful and well-known as a writer. Times have changed, and many women today would probably condemn him as a misogynist pig, and maybe in some ways they are right, but it is true that plenty of women once found him and his writing very attractive and relatable. Bukowski was a very nuanced character. He could go from being incredibly vulnerable and romantic to deeply misanthropic and calloused. I suppose he was at his best, both as a writer and a person, when he was somewhere in between...

It was narrated without any particular sentiment and that was it's very beauty. Because you made your own mind up and your own feelings came through without being told how to feel. Naturally we were all rooting for the cat.

I worked in a shelter for a couple years (had to move to new town). it was very underfunded bc of the county we lived in. Saddest job of my life, cried on my drive home several days. I like to think that we make a difference, even a small one, by being there with them and loving them (I think they can feel it). Thank u for doing that job...it can be rough. Wish you all the best in everything

Better than that I was Shadow Boxing with him, I was young and foolish did not understand the opportunity, for some reason he liked me in opened up talked about a few things that I can't remember, one thing comes to mind that he was not happy with the amount of money he made from the movie he was in, I could have easily been a close friend and a companion but then it is not to be, his wife or girlfriend at that time was a real bitch .

Most people don't like cats. But I've been rescuing cats since high school. And I'll turn 60 next summer. Right now there are 5 living with me. Yeah, I'm getting older. I live alone. With 5 cats. I write some. I drink wine. I read. Mostly Bukowski. There's even a 114 year old baby grand piano in this little shit hole apartment that a bought for next to nothing in 2020 during the COVID shutdown. Why am I telling you this? You probably don't care.

    Hello,🦋🦋🦋 🐥🐦🐦🐦🦜🐦
God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ(His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin. Then, He grew up and died on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must receive Jesus Christ sincerely to be God's child John 1:12. "But as many as received Him, to them He gave power to become the sons of God, even to them that BELIEVE on HIS name." That is great news! Will you sincerely receive Holy, Lord Jesus into your life today?
