Just free ballin on a dragon like Jon and Daenerys do is a wild oversight in the show. You would HAVE to be harnessed on to a dragon or you would fall off to your death immediately. People can't hold onto a bucking rodeo bull on the ground for 8 seconds let alone a dragon in flight.
