- In this video I’m sharing my “new” and my first Ford Model A ~ 1929 Roadster 40a!
I’ll share some of the good and bad things about “Roadie”, what needs to be fixed and some of the things I’m going to do to it in the very near future as I share how I fix these issues!

This video has been repaired, no more glitches! Sorry, I had to take the other video down, I realized that the entire video had issues. Fortunately @paulshinn knew what to do and helped me fix the video! Now I won’t have this issue in the future. Thats so awesome! I look forward to someday having the same model, it's the best model to have in California ...right? My wife did a surprise birthday party years ago at the Sacramento automobile museum. I pulled up & my neighbor was in the parking lot talking to a guy (docent) in his roadster & said if i wanted a ride back inside the building. My wife knew I wouldn't say no.
We pulled into the building... the curtains pulled back & a 100 friends & family cheered at the entrance. Music, food, dancing, casino games, & the whole place to ourselves. What a day! I've been keeping a close eye on the market & will acquire one when our garage is built. You're my favorite You Tube couple. Happy belated birthday!!!!!

Good morning still for you Tina, and yes we enjoyed this edition from you. First we are so glad for you, its like Roady came in our family. Hahahaha, you are just like me, I always, always I see a model A, which are at all not many on the island of Curacao, I do make an assessment of what I see and like to replace.
The handle of the rumble seat hatch, when you replace this, don’t forget the rubber flat washer below, to avoid the handle to rub on the metal surface.
Also you are right and Paul, go to Zenith. The exhaust manifold is nice it is the ceramic coated edition, great. And a great addition is to replace the rear stop lights for the duo light led, for safety 👍🏼.
Tina, we will look ahead upon your future videos and again a happy Easter what remains of as at this moment is Sunday, and Paul has us really love him more 🤩, what a great gift, and the way he presented this to you. Really a warm hearted way to hand over this Model A.

Tina's Roadster has much the same look as our 29 Plymouth Touring. Ours is a light yellow with the trim about the same brown as your car. One major difference is our car has burnt orange wire wheels. It sounds horrid but it actually looks good. I love your roadster and Happy birthday!

You should check with your local auto paint supply. I had a problem matching a paint color and found that my supplier has an electronic scanner that will come up with a formula to exactly match any color. It will even match a faded paint.

What beautiful weather you guys had for your getaway. Really great video Tina, as to be expected. Hi Model "T"! I understand your desire to keep it original(wonder where ya get that?). Before you replace the rumble seat lock and latch, I think if you find a good old time locksmith might be able to repair that for ya. It would be worth callin' around. Get to polishing!

Hi Jeff! Thank you so much! The car I road in the rumble seat was our 1931 Sports coupe, Roadie is the one we drove in as I recorded the 4th of July parade in, Paul was driving, I was the passenger and two teenage boys were in the rumble seat holding the American flag ♥️

Happy Birthday and congratulations on Roadie! My son also has a roadster named Roadie. It is a BMW M3 roadster. It is crazy fast and handles as if it were on rails, yet if offered his or yours I would have trouble deciding.

I see your new car has seatbelts installed. Will you keep them and use them? I have a '29 roadster pickup and have been hesitant to put seatbelts in it. I know in a front, rear, or side impact, they would be beneficial. But I also am a farmer, and the rule for tractors is that if there isn't a cab or ROPS, then there is to be no seatbelt. That way, in the event of a rollover, the driver might escape rather than being definitely being crushed. Do you or Paul have any thoughts about seatbelts and the roadsters? Thanks for the great videos.
I really appreciate your message 💕 You know I’m think a lot about that, I feel safe with seat belts, especially like you said with the first examples of wrecks, but I also see your thoughts on no seat belts in the event of possible roll over…we have a couple in our club that has a convertible type Model A also and something happened and they went off the road and down a steep hill, they were ejected and lived as the vehicle rolled over and over and landed upside down. I was in a high speed head on collision in October 2011, me 50mph and the drunk driver 55-60mph, I was wearing seat belts in my PT Cruiser…not a convertible but I didn’t go flying like super women either 🫣
I think any time you go on the road with other drivers in any vehicle you stand the chance of something happening and it all depends on what happens at that given moment and how you come out in the end.

Ohh Tina, what can I say? NONE of the colors on your '29 Model A Roadster are period-correct. Best thing to do, if you want to go so far, is to get hold of a MAFCA (Model A Ford Club of America) MODEL A FORD PAINT & FINISH GUIDE (it comes with color chips) and consult the paint guide for the proper SPECIFIC colors for your car...

Umm... Model A Ford Fenders were ALWAYS BLACK from the factory... The Body color SEEMS to be a slightly LIGHTENED "MANILA BROWN", which was a Ford Model A Station Wagon/Depot Hack color.
Yep, they were always black. Why someone decided to change the original colors to these I have no idea. For now I will enjoy Roadie and someday in the future as we work on different areas if we can figure out what the original colors were I just might bring it back. However, I can’t bring myself to make the fenders black with this body color without feeling nauseous, so later in time if we can’t tell what the original body color was then I will pick my favorite color scheme from the MAFCA color book for my make and year.
So where can I get a car like that and how much in $
It’s truly different in every state as to how much a Model A is going to cost.
We know the family we bought it from and they are like family so we got a break that most people wouldn’t get.
In general Model A’s go for all kinds of prices depending on if it runs, needs a lot of work, some work or in working order so that’s a question I’m not able to answer.
Best bet is to go on MAFCA.com cars for sale, Hemmings under Model A’s for sale, MAFCA even has a Facebook page where Model A folks share Model A’s for sale and other things.
I’ve seen good and running Model A’s sell for about $15,000-22,000, depending on what model. Whereas other models especially more rare ones or restored and ready to drive go for more and same goes with model’s with work needing to be done you can get for less $.
Like I said though that’s in our area, it’s different across the states and countries.

It irks me that so many Model A Owners exercise so much "artistic license" in painting and refinishing their cars. Generally, they choose to paint and refinish their cars in these awful PEACOCK colors which ARE TOO BRIGHT. The ACTUAL paint colors of that bygone era were much more somber in hue. No "BABY BLUE" or "MAGENTA" Model A ever left Henry's factories... These cars were NOT Duesenbergs, after all...
Officially, Ford's SPECIFIC choices of colors for the 1929 Phaeton (35-A) and Roadster (40-A) models, were:
Bonnie Gray Body, Chelsea Blue Belt Moulding and Lower Sill Moulding, Straw Pinstripe; Wire Wheels could be painted Straw to match the Pinstripe at the Dealers', usually at extra cost, per Customer Request
Rose Beige Body, Seal Brown Belt Moulding and Lower Sill Moulding, Orange Pinstripe; Wire Wheels could be painted Orange to match the Pinstripe at the Dealers' (see above)
Balsam Green Body, Valley Green Belt Moulding and Lower Sill Moulding, Cream Pinstripe; Wire Wheels could be painted Cream to match the Pinstripe at the Dealers' (see above)
Andalusite Blue Body, Black Belt Moulding and Lower Sill Moulding, French Gray Pinstripe; Wire Wheels could be painted French Gray to match the Pinstripe at the Dealers' (see above) I recall see a 1930 Coupe Deluxe (45-B) at a local car show done in Andalusite Blue/Black with Cream or Straw Wire Wheels. I mean it LOOKED nice, but it was incorrect... I dunno, YOU be the judge...
Thorne Brown Body, Black Belt Moulding and Lower Sill Moulding; Gold Pinstripe- Wire Wheels were to be left Black- That means, NO GOLD WHEELS (I HAVE seen Thorne Brown Model As with Straw or Cream Wire Wheels, but I think these are cases of "artistic license" running rampant, again)
If one ordered a Model A without specifying a color, you got your car in BLACK... Period...
Other Model A body-styles, Coupes, Sport Coupes, Cabriolets, Tudors, Fordors, etc could be had in several other color-schemes, but these were also model-specific AND were also limited to the more "drab" side of the color spectrum. The notable exceptions being the 1930/'31 Bronson Yellow/Seal Brown scheme for selected "open" cars such as the Cabriolet and the Phaeton...
Note: For ALL model years (1928-1931) Model A Fenders, Aprons and Running Boards were ALWAYS painted BLACK (dipped in Black Enamel) as per Ford assembly practices; Body Paint Colors were spray-painted in NITROCELLULOSE LACQUER (Pyroxylene), which was then hand-rubbed and buffed to a mirror-like sheen; Chassis and Running Gear were ALWAYS spray-painted in oven-baked Black Japan Enamel- NO EXCEPTIONS. These components' paint-finishes were left in their natural state, i.e, they were never polished or buffed. Neither were Door Jambs, the INSIDES of Engine Compartments (Firewalls, Gas Tanks, inner surfaces of Hood Panels, etc). Pinstripes and matching Wire Wheel colors were painted in Enamels; Wheels were always finished in Black at the factory until the release of the 1930 model year cars, in which cases the 1930/'31 "Deluxe" models had their Wheels painted to match the Pinstripe colors. Standard cars' Wheels were Black, unless the Customer specified a contrasting color, once again following the guidelines set for the Deluxe models...
An EXCELLENT source for Ford Model A Body and Trim colors is the official MAFCA (Model A Ford Club of America) MODEL A FORD PAINT & FINISH GUIDE, which INCLUDES officially-matched and recognized Ford Motor Company Paint Color Chips- Once you have these in hand, you'll have all of the info you'll ever need in order to paint/refinish your Model A. ALL models and body-styles are contained therein, including AA and AAA Trucks... (GREAT for scale modelers, too!) Enjoy!!!
