And actually, stuffing the beak with herbs and other medicinal plants and smells definitely would help to keep the person wearing the mask from getting sick or from smelling DEATH and decay and the rotting corpses

There's the thing, there's some evidence that it DID work, probably because all the stuff they well, stuffed, into the beak acted like a filter against airborne problems, and the thick clothes kept fleas from biting them.

They were almost right, but for the wrong reasons. In the 17th century, they thought plagues were caused by "miasma" or "bad air." So the doctors would fill the beak part of the mask with dried herbs and other sweet-smelling plants to ward off the "miasma." What the herbs were really doing was acting as a homemade filter against viruses. The long coat and goggles also gave some protection against infection.
They were a lot smarter than us even in such primary times.

They are saying that the doctors were clueless and this practice wouldn't be effective but how is this different from what we're doing today? Covering the eyes, nose and hands had to be more protection than being completely exposed. And using the cane for social distancing is exactly what we're doing today. Of course the material is more permeable than it is now, but they were on the right track.

He never said they were clueless on how to protect themselves, he said they were clueless about the cause of the plague. If you actually listened to the video you wouldnt be confused
@@crashb133 I did listen to the video which is why I wrote that they saw the doctors as clueless. Because every other viewer is watching the same information, I didnt think it was necessary to put "...as to the cause of the plauge" when writing a short RUclips comment no one is going to write every word that is said in the video we're discussing. However, there is always someone who will take one tiny nuance and just expand it beyond belief. And I mean you took the tiniest of nuances imaginable. In doing so, somehow you missed that I never said that "clueless" was in reference to them not knowing how to protect themselves. I simply listed it as one of the many things they said about the doctors of that time. Either way it must have been relevant to the end point of the findings, otherwise they would not have mentioned it at all.

That was a lovely skit, the girl played the part with verve and energy. The plague doctor was puckish and lent a humor to this bit of theatre.

Imagine being the doctor, everyone is dying and it is your job to try to cure the plague. Yet, without the knowledge where and what caused the plague and also there was no such things as antibiotics, it’s very difficult and more people end up dying.

Actually they were pretty effective.
-The robe that hung to the floor protected the legs from flee bites
-The eyes that were made of glass, stopped body fluid contamination
-The incense filled beak allowed the doctor to tolerate being in the same room longer
Even the staff while not only used as a social distancing tools, also was used as a cane for thumping patients who would lunge at them.
Not gonna lie, I thought it’s a cosplay. Then I searched about Black Death and now I know it’s not designed for nothing. And no, it’s not funny. How would you feel if I laugh at you dying because of coronavirus?

The doctor outfits probably did help a bit. Aromatic plants often have antimicrobials properties and the plants worked as a sort of filtration much like our dust masks any droplets were slowed down through the mask and the physical barriers like gloves would afford a bit of protection and the mask would scare people so theres social distancing, so all in all, they were on to something. Its akin to wearing a surgical or dust mask and a lab coat with gloves. You're not 100 percent protected, but it's much better than nothing. More importantly, if the doc was Infected, the mask would afford protection to other people because it would slow his germs down.
This is going to be a great Halloween costume.
