They intentionally didnt show this art during the panel because they knew it'd get booed
Yes, yes, yes. I thought the same thing.
@@rjuliano9276 - But if they KNOW that so many would hate this idea,...then why do it? Spite? Disdain for fans? I can't fathom why this is being done. Walt LOVED that area if Disneyland and having in in MK was perfect.
@@CLIFFLIXbecause really, when was the last time you rode the riverboat? How about paid a visit to Tom Sawyers Island? The only reason any of us have in the last decade was because everything else had too long of a line, and this was literally just something to do that was peaceful. The only real problem I have with this is that we lose more of those attractions. Instead of something that’s walk on, it will just be another hours long wait. It doesn’t nothing to lessen the crowd like the former attractions. It just entices even more people to visit.
@@UmmYeahOk - It's true that I don't go on the island too often. (I did about 2 years ago) However, I DO enjoy the VIEW of the riverboat and the river itself EVERY time I go to MK. I'd say I ride the boat about once a year. Build the damn Cars attraction is some OTHER location!
@@CLIFFLIXFans have been begging for a fifth gate for years. Cars, Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land, Pandora, Villians, Indiana Jones, Encanto… …there are plenty of these “expansions” that would have made perfect fifth gate lands. All these expansions do is add capacity for even more guests to come. It does nothing to disperse them. In fact, it forces many to spend multiple days in a single park just so they can do everything. That adds to the crowds and the lines. More time spent in lines means angry guests who feel like they aren’t getting their moneys worth. It leads to guests not wasting their time purchasing merchandise and snacks. Last time I was there, they started that genie+ nonsense. I spent less time enjoying attractions than I ever did before, and even lesser time shopping, and that’s something I actually enjoy doing! It makes Disney money, and gets people like me out of a line.
I am so upset over this. Why can Disneyland be so much smaller but they can add so many more things than MK has. Every time they add something, we lose things. Develop unused land and don't remove things we now have.
Yeah but our Tomorrowland here is awful and everything between our small world and space mountain is a complete waste of space… our people mover track has sat abandoned and rotting since 1995
Land usage in Florida is not the same. You are level with the water table, so when you dig... you hit water. And central Florida gets LOTS of rain in the Spring and Summer. So you have to create water pond/run-off collection areas to channel that water. And the Florida land is in the MIDDLE of nature "preserve" so to speak, so there are conservation considerations and ecological concerns that have to be researched and addressed ($$$ and extra time) before "shovel hits the ground" at the WDW resort.
@@RetroFett yes but it’s not a “nature preserve”, it’s private property that Disney has owned for over fifty years and the land immediately behind Big Thunder is nothing but undeveloped timber. Sure there are ecological concerns that have to be addressed when they build but that hasn’t stopped them from building all the resorts has it?
Disneyland is land locked which makes it super difficult to expand since it's surrounded by a city. Disney World doesn't have this issue cause it's built surrounded by undeveloped land
@@dontmesswiththeman Actually, Disney is literally a nature preserve. Some of it is literally protected land through an agreement with the state.
The land behind Big Thunder Mountain IS where this is being built. In fact, there's no way to build around Big Thunder Mountain without impeding the waterway somewhere.
How are they going to make a 1770s Liberty Square, a Hudson River Valley mansion, the 1870s old west town facades (and Country Bears), a 1920s salt mine in the Bayou for Tiana's, and Big Thunder Mountain... all work in a circle surrounding this noisy, high-energy dirt race-course for modern anthropomorphic cars without seeming like a Six Flags park??
I really hope they have some magic ups their sleeves in terms of how to blend and transition or thematically justify this or it will be a historic disaster in theme park design.
This is exactly why I don’t like Cars there specifically! The river broke up all those thematically different areas. Plopping modern looking Cars in the middle of these historically themed lands makes no sense at all and will look a mess I fear
People wanted Disney to be more like Universal...you got it. DinoCoaster next to Harry Potter with a bush masking it. This is it folks
Ugh! I'm so over these parks. Losing all the cohesiveness that Walt's original Imagineers worked so hard to attain.
@@loogoo You'll still go
I get that thematically it’s very incoherent with all of these different regions/themes but comparing it to six flags is such a monumental stretch ☠️
I’m sad to see Tom Sawyers island go. I visit it every time we go. I have ever since I was a boy.
Me too. i will miss it.
This is the part Disney seems to not put into it’s calculations. People have a deep history with this place and associate it deeply with family. If you get rid of all the icon spaces like this you are cannibalizing your assets in a terrible way. Disney parks shouldn’t be museums but parts of them should never change.
Walking out of Liberty Tree Tavern or standing in the queue for Haunted Mansion while hearing *VRROOOOOM* is gonna take me out of it.
You dont hear the cars at Cars land unless your next to the ride...its a pretty quiet ride
@@MikePhillips-wc9po Oh, gotcha. I haven’t been to DCA, so I’m assuming it’ll sound like Test Track or Tomorrowland Speedway. At least hoping that the ride is obscured a lot by trees and mountains so it’s not too much of an eyesore in Liberty Square.
@@MikePhillips-wc9poI don’t think it’s going to be the Test Track ride system
@@MikePhillips-wc9po I think it’s going to be more of a coaster than a slot car track
I mean you can hear the whistles from Big Thunder Mountain while in the queue for Haunted Mansion, so whatever
That’s not “beyond thunder mountain” that’s like “let’s build something on water in front of thunder mountain”
I wish they would just shorten the Rivers of America & then do villains land. This Cars feels wrong for Magic Kingdom. Coco would have been better
@@KforFreedom it just feels weird, geographically wise, in the middle there, like there’s no main lake anymore and plus you walk over to frontier land and it’s not really frontier land, it’s cars land now I guess with thunder mountain jammed in the back
@@frrrfrrr9177 Agreed. I think this project was conceived without effort or imagination.
@@frrrfrrr9177And how does Tiana’s Bayou Adventure fit in with all this??
@@sandrayates4645 yeah lol idk
I’m sick. I really have not been that upset with any of the big changes and IP placements Disney has been making the past few years, but I can’t get behind this one. Rivers of America is just classic Magic Kingdom to me. I can’t imagine the park without it.
Same 😕
I feel deflated. That section of Liberty Square through Frontierland by the water has always been my favorite part of the Magic Kingdom. It’s a calming reprieve after going through the chaotic walkways of Fantasyland or Adventureland and certainly after the “concrete jungle” that is Tomorrowland.
Absolutely. This is just wrong isn’t it? Beyond big thunder would be perfect but this just ruins so much theming in that whole area and will make it an even more crowded part of the park. Defintely a slice of magic lost here…
I'm just furious at this point. They don't care to keep what's important to the park's identity. But they'll pretend to! They'll pretend to so they can cash in on our nostalgia. They just see this as another product, plain and simple. Every joke about the Disney corporation picking people's pockets that has been told in the past three decades is finally, actually, becoming our reality.
I 100% agree with you. Frontier Cars looks fun and I'm not against it. Just build the thing on an EMPTY piece of the property. Problem solved.
Personally I’d “dock” the Liberty Belle at the station, convert it into a restaurant or show space, fill in the river to the right of that as my entrance to the new area, and leave the river to the left as a buffer between the old and new. Many memories of standing there waiting for the parade in the 90s, and the vibes were immaculate.
I don't think people, or Disney for that matter, truly understand the importance of water features or areas within the parks. I'm not against filling in part of the Rivers of America, as I agree it can definitely be used for expansion, but they should not fill in all of it, as it provides much needed tranquility and beauty within the Magic Kingdom. Maybe keeping a small body of water in the northern section as a better barrier between Frontierland and Villains land would be good.
Another thing I don't believe many are considering is how this will affect the sightlines and surrounding theming of Liberty Square and Frontierland as a whole. No more looking out onto the water from the Haunted Mansion queue. No more walking into Liberty Square and seeing Big Thunder Mountain or Tiana's across the water and being drawn to it. Instead, you're going to walk over there and find another mountain in the middle of the land blocking the view for anything else, which could easily mislead guests and cause them to be lost without a proper icon leading them along to the other rides in the back of Frontierland.
I don't love the fact Cars is in Frontierland since it really doesn't make that much thematic sense, but if they are determined to have that IP in Frontierland there are certainly better ways to do it.
And the whole point of having the Liberty Square and Frontierland areas on a "river" is part of the history of American towns that developed specifically along rivers and railway lines. It's a shame to lose that connection to create a land that has no connection to either of these historical time periods.
People are using a map on an app to navigate the park, while I agree that having that sightline is nice, I don't think anything is really lost here.
Not sure how this doesn't make sense thematically? In fact it makes a lot more sense thematically from an American West perspective to have snowcapped mountains around BTMR and the whole Western saloon vibe than a river with a steamboat. Realistically none of it made sense before either, you're at a theme park, did it need to make sense?
I think the river should be narrowed, but I agree with keeping it. It provides a nice homage around BTM to the water that carved those rock formations. And also an homage in many ways to liberty square: One if by land, two if by sea, Washington crossing the Delaware, and "Just around the river bend" of all the new possibilities that surrounded our founding of Jamestown.
It would be beautiful if they could do some trickling water over a rock wall between the frontierland walkway and Tom Sawyer Island. And then if they put Villians land behind it by Haunted Mansion, it would be cool to see the river water turn black with thorns jutting out and constant fog.
You perfectly captured my thoughts on the loss of the water. We’re drawn to water. It has a calming, soothing affect.
@@J.Halllll what you mean the rivers didn't make sense??? American West is a vast space with rivers, deserts, mountains ..
Coco should be at Epcot at the Mexico pavilion
I’m fine with that just don’t dare get rid of the Gran Fiesta Tour
Let’s also put Rapunzel in Germany. Epcot needs more popular rides
Couldn’t handle the large lines. They would have to completely rework that entire pavilion
@@KforFreedom they need to do the Mary Poppins ride in the U.K. Pavilion that’s been talked about for years
@@AgentGodzillaRP1701 Agreed. Been saying this since Coco came out.
We’ve already lost so many attractions over the course of this entire decade.
At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if they announce that Carousel of Progress is next on the chopping block in two years.
As someone who has only been to DLR- Replacing the river seems... insane to me? Do WDW fans not care about the river? If they tried that in DLR there would be riots.
The design of DL compared to Magic Kingdom has always been better with Big Thunder being on the east side of the river versus being on the west side of the river. It forms a really bad traffic jam and dead end on that side of the park. The only place to move is "through" the river, but obviously you can't because there's a river in the way. It's always been bad design.
One factor that makes the DLR different from WDW Magic Kingdom is placement of Fantasmic. WDW is at Hollywood Studios. DLR is on Rivers of America. Loss of Rivers of America in Florida (even though a bad idea, in my own opinion) only affects the nostalgia of the area.
Oh, we’re upset for sure. This is tragic, and we’re pissed.
All the land "beyond" big thinder land and they choose the fill in rivers of america
But HOW do you get people to that side. There's train tracks to the west of Big Thunder and you can walk around the right side of Big Thunder, unless you can walk on water.
I don't believe that ANYBODY thinks that Cars is THIS important.
I think the Internet, like a lot of things, is overly vocal against Cars. We think if we're all saying the same thing that's exactly what the internal numbers are saying. But these don't always line up. If they're this confident in a Cars expansion, it's because they see an audience there. That audience isn't necessarily leaving RUclips comments.
It is and you are wrong, sorry.
Over a billion dollars in merch and Radiator Springs is one of the most popular and best themed lands in all Disney. Do you how much merch TSI and ROA sell? Zero.
@@DigitalJediMaster They're listening to the wrong audience or learning the wrong lesson.
More people should vocalize their displeasure at this decision until the consensus grows and grows and they recognize that normies who don't vocalize their opinions don't move the needle. They can only spend their money once in the moment. But ideas love on.
@@TheMess9898 Yeah but that's just money, though.
@@JP-1990 Right...and people too as it is the most visited section. Also...Money talks.
Getting rid of the river completely is a huge mistake. Yes Tom Sawyer island is underutilized space but they easily could’ve kept the river in a shortened version and built cars right above it, it’s not like magic kingdom is short on space
How would you access though?
Have you not just listened?
True. I personally never really cared about the island itself but they should probably keep the river in some capacity.
They're paving paradise to put in a parking lot.
@writerpatrick wow, not like 10,000 people have already made that comment. So original.
I'm really surprised that there hasn't been more of an uproar for Rivers of America. This seems like something that people would be more upset about. This to me feels like the equivalent of getting rid of Space Mountain for Buzz or something. Like, getting rid of something iconic for another IP. That's usually how the story goes for most additions to the park.
Sincerely though, if people are willing to trust Disney with this then I won't argue. I just hope Disney follows through with these promises. As someone who loves Cars and grew up with it, dirt racing does seem pretty cool.
I think too many people realize that they never go to Tom Sawyer's island or ride the river boat.
They’re completely redoing Space Mountain and getting rid of Buzz in Tokyo, and they’re the best Disney Park in the world.🤷🏼♀
@@Primogen16 no one rides on the channel around the castle, but they’d still be upset if it went away. People complain when it’s drained for refurb. Water features serve a purpose in theming.
I'm really disappointed with this news. Frontierland is my favorite part of the park. This will ruin its aesthetic. I enjoy riding the riverboat, and Tom Sawyer Island is a nice change of pace from the rest of the park. Going through the caves in the island are a hidden treasure and fun! I'm going to miss them very much 😕
@@Primogen16 Agreed. People are acting like toddlers with toys they no longer play with. Once someone else is playing with them, they throw a conniption.
Destroying the Rivers of America is horrible.
I agreed we need to save Rivers of America
Hearing about Cars coming:😄
Seeing where it’s going: 😮
I think they missed a chance putting Villains Kingdom in the northern half of the former Rivers of America. They should have taken a cue from Toon Town at Disneyland and put the villains past the train berm, on the "wrong side of the tracks."
If Tom Sawyer's Island is going away, we all better be ready to say goodbye to Tomorrowland Speedway because how much land that takes up and they could expand Fantasy land that way to Tron.
Cars should’ve been put in Tomorrowland smh
They won't remove Tomorrowland Speedway, at least not this decade. Tomorrowland Speedway is a high capacity ride that rarely has long lines and is popular with young children. They've stated that it's very important to them logistically as it funnels away a lot of young children and families from Fantasyland during peak crowd times.
It would make sense to lose it once cars is in
They don't want to touch Tomorrowland until they have worked out plans for a complete rebuild of the land. Although it seems odd that they're converting the Autopia to electric cars but not the Speedway. And they did shorten it to make room for Tron.
I may have misunderstood, but I thought the new kids Cars themed ride was similar to Tomorrowland Speedway. I would love to see the Speedway gone- the fumes make me sick every time I walk past. Hopefully the new ride would be electric. And Tomorrowland could definitely use a shot in the arm.
It would be WAY too expensive so they'll never do it, but I'd much rather have them relocate Big Thunder Mountain to Tom Sawyer's Island the way it is in Disneyland Paris. Then the existing BTM location can be used to launch any sort of "beyond" expansion for Cars, Villains, etc. Like I said, it'll never happen, but it would be the best solution in my opinion.
lol yeah that is a blue sky idea 😂
They couldn’t even bare the cost of putting lights on the castle at Christmas ffs 🤦♂️
Keep dreaming
But they could route the Rivers of America around Thunder Mountain where it is partially encircled anyway. I think there is some merit to the idea.
@@iseewoodgreat idea
Noooooooooo! Keep this "Beyond Big Thunder"
I want additions, not replacements! For me Disney Parks were the ultimate theme parks in that you could immerse yourself in the theming itself and not just go from ride line to ride line, The Rivers of America and Tom Sawyers Island are part of Walts legacy and somewhere you could immerse yourself in that theming. Its rather like removing the trees and greenery around the castle and main street and putting down astroturf! Finally, Walts original park didnt need IP's everywhere to be a success!!
If they keep it hidden from the other lands it will probably be great but I’d have rather seen them keep Rivers of America. I do think Tom Sawyers needed something else
I agree 100% Tom Sawyers Island is Walts legacy and putting up A cars theme attraction is just weird to me. I mean I'm all for improvements and new stuff but come on.. CARS is just unbelievable. I didn't care for the franchise and it's such a shame it's leaving. I love looking at the island and the Rivers of America was beautiful to look at
Both are boring and no one does those attractions
Few went on those attractions anyway. Good replacement for under utilized area.
@@mohamadmahmoud6926 They are good chill out spots and places to let kids not be trapped on tarmac in giant crowds all day.
Yep I’m going to miss the tranquility. There is something so calming about water.
Disney knew better than to announce the destruction of Rivers of America there at D23 and to put it instead on parks blog. or at least I assume that's how they did it. No RUclips clips of a presenter announcing Carsland on top of Tom Sawyer Island.
Walt never saw the finished Magic Kingdom. And many if not most of the original rides in Disneyland are gone or changed, and that started when Walt was still alive. If nothing changed there’d be no incentive to keep going back.
@@lpierce8842 Walt said that the parks need to always change, but this is such a drastic change. He would never agree with getting rid of the Rivers of America. Shortening it maybe but not removing it completely.
Also, one of the reasons WDW was placed on so much land was because this way they could continue to expand without having to remove old rides like they did at Disneyland. Walt once said in an interview that it was one of the hardest things for him to do was to replace any ride at Disneyland with another because for someone it was their favorite ride. So MK was intentionally made on a larger footprint than Disneyland so they could do just that. Disney keeps shooting themselves in the foot by putting so much infrastructure in back stage area then they don’t want to expand. They are only planning for 5 years ahead instead of 50. None of the infrastructure in that back stage area needs to be right there, it could be further out. The roads around MK could be rerouted and pushed back too. MK could be greatly expanded but they are just too lazy and want a quick fix that will bring in a lot of money now but not cost that much. They don’t have a long term goal in mind because most of these people don’t see Disney as their career only as a stopping point along their life career. So they are only concerned that the park be successful for the next few years before they get a better job elsewhere instead of wanting to leave a legacy for their grandchildren. Josh is only concerned about the parks until he becomes the CEO. Plus he was always a Disneyland type person and considers WDW more of an annoyance so I think he’s purposefully trying to make it not as successful as Disneyland.
Oh well, had some great memories at the Magic Kingdom. You'll be missed.
This is the way.
The river is so important in many ways. It’s iconic in every castle park. This is unforgivable.
Carrs was the worst part of the announcements, up until today when they said they were paving over Rivers of America. The vibe of the area is really going to be bummed out. Looking out from Haunted Mansion queue and walking along the waterside is gonna be missing that special something :'(
as a west coast person, Avatar was by far the worst announcement we got for so many reasons. 1) Disney has the land to do a 3rd gate at the Toy Story lot and could have used Avatar as an anchor of the park on opening day since it seems like we are still a LONG way away from that even breaking ground. 2) using Avatar in a 3rd gate would have meant that each of the 3 parks has 1 of the mega scifi IPs and none being overloaded with 2. 3) what in the absolute hell does Avatar have to do with California. At least with the rest of the park they TRIED to make those connections, even if they're loose. 4) all the fan sites have convinced themselves that Avatar is replacing Hollywood which makes even less sense logically because you would then need transitions from Buena Vista Street and Avengers Campus that are both urban environments and you then have to work around the Monorail which also wouldn't make any sense in a hyper immersive Avatar land.
@wraithkelso Avatar is about California. It shows what happens when one people's land gets invaded by illegal aliens. 😂😂😂
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot. Mmmmm-da-da-da.
Do you hate cars or do you hate this new cars attraction?
@@wraithkelso Avatar belongs in Universal Studios.
Ahh, New Frontierland. You can almost hear Walt saying "More merchandise sales? Fill in that ridiculous river. To hell with it!"
CarsLand location is terrible placement. Push it back to behind Big Thunder or to Hollywood Studios. It ruins the site lines and tranquility. Keep the waterfront!
Stop calling it cars land because this is not cars land
This project really bothers me. Rivers of America was a very important part of the park's landscape. I hope they reconsider at least shortening the rivers and leaving only a small lake or adding bodies of water to the cars area.
Yes, they are really going to need to hide this cars area from the surroundings & should try to leave us some water area near liberty square. Maybe a water wheel
Looks like the picture still has elements of water.
@@nubby2790 Anyway, I don't know what they have in mind. If you look at a satellite image of the park, there's a lot of land to the north to build on. I'm very disappointed.
Now I'll be waiting for the announcements about the destruction of the Muppets area and Grizzly River Run (the only beautiful themed area that gives coherence to DCA).
Maybe they can keep a stretch of it so river can remain part of the landscape across from liberty tree, perhaps just not as wide.
That water keeps that part of the park cool. 😢
Do Disneyland in Northern California
Once again Disney is stamping out the nostalgia factor that their parks have long had. Walt’s vision of going back to a simpler time, a time of innocence and nostalgia is completely foreign to the Disney of today.
Tom Sawyer island has long been one of my favorite areas of the park, since my childhood, where a kid could go and explore and have fun being a kid again. I’m saddened and going to mourn it leaving. There’s nothing like it in any other Disney Park. One more reason why I don’t care about ever going back to WDW. It’s sad but WDW used to be my favorite theme park. But now I enjoy Universal so much more, and I’m very excited for Epic Universe opening next year.
I would love to see the villains area go more round the back and have a smaller entrance from fantasy land. Probably by moving Pinocchio restrooms and you could start by walking through the woods past Belles and it would turn to classic dark forest with twisted vines and open up to villains land. That would make a much better theme than strolling past cars to get there. I also think there is the possibility or shielding the railroad from the land with foreground rockwork and have the castle mountain looming up on the far side of the railroad. It would give more usable space in the land as I'm worried how much of cars land will be eaten up by the 'mountain'.
From the looks of it there will probably be a wooded path into Villians. It probably should connect to by Big Thunder, Haunted Mansion & Fantasy land
@@KforFreedom yes that big path looks like it heads there but I hope they separate that from cars so we aren't going from comic style cars to villains. Keep it more haunted mansion themed with less view of the cars before you get too close. I need it to connect to Fantasyland though!
I have zero interest in cars land in the MK & for me it doesn’t fit however Disney are trying to sell it to us. It should be in DHS. The Rivers of America is such a nice part of MK & it should be kept. I like the idea of Villains Land and I know Disney have to do something to keep up with Universal but I don’t think bolting on a couple of new lands in the MK will achieve that.
Josh D’Amaro didn’t say that all the announced lands will open in the next five years but that they will start construction within the next five years. The quote is “I can’t wait for you to see these projects start to come to life over the next five years.”.
Would love for the villains land to be entered through fantasy land not to copy the epic portals but some sort of cool transition
Oo that would be cool
Rockwork like Disneysea
I agree put an entrance near Gaston’s since technically he is a Villian. Use it for theming and another entrance or exit so it doesn’t bottle neck over the other way
They could have a second walkway next to Small World leading to the VillainsLand.
Having a long path way that snakes past the Haunted Mansion, will allow a chance for a good transition into the land. Perhaps even through a dark forest and village with the grand reveal of the land.
Want to commend you for being one the only channels left that can be both critical and have complaints of Disney Parks but ultimately try to be optomistic, and excited for new things! Your channel is refreshing and joyful to watch because your honest but look for the good in nearly everything....At the end of the day there are dedicated, hardworking imagineers behind every project putting their soul and passion behind their creation (regardless of any limits put on them), and peoples love to hate on anything/everything kind of forget that fact sadly. Keep up the good work!
It’d be cool if they could somehow move the riverboat to EPCOT and have it leave from the American Pavilion
So we're going to walk out of Country Bears or Tiana's or Haunted Mansuon and see a bunch of cars racing?
Well that's just the shittiest possible thing.
Agreed this is just tragic
@@justicetilsher This is friggin' horrifically bad. Who in Burbank is THIS stupid?

You mean like how you see a medieval castle at the end of a 1940s main street, or see and smell cars right around spinning tea cups, or how a haunted mansion turns right into colonial america which in turn immediately turns into the old west? The truth is that Cars will be themed to the American Wilderness and that will blend in nicely with bug thunder.
@@joeromano92 - Im not against building Cars. Just don't destroy the river or the riverboat to do that. Build it in an EMPTY part of the park instead!
River/Island are going away and some people will be mad. But there is one thing I would like Disney Imagineers to do regarding Liberty Square Riverboat:
1.). Before draining the river, add a canal to the area behind Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (from existing service leg of river).
2.) Move the paddle wheel boat to behind TBA and fix it into place.
3.) Convert the boat to dining areas with a jazz stage and build the kitchen and restrooms in a separate but adjacent building connected to the new dining spaces.
4.) Create a dock path from TBA shops area to the new dining boat with “dockside” check-in and waiting area.
5.) leave a small water area around just the boat enough to make it look like a river connects to the docking area. Since this is behind Tiana’s it shouldn’t be visible from Big Thunder side, but can been seen from backside flumes of TBA (generating interest in possibly trying the new place).
Bam-we keep a historical piece of the park and re-purpose it PLUS have created a new dining experience with some jazz entertainment for MK.
Cars should’ve gone north of Big Thunder mountain
Instead of the Villain's land?
@Primogen16 everything was advertised "beyond" big thunder
@@jemariochaney8589 Was it though? This Cars attraction was never announced for Beyond Big Thunder when they first announced the idea. Last I checked when Beyond Big Thunder was announced the idea was for a Encanto or Coco land and Villains.
Btw if you look at the concept art for Villains no part of Rivers of America is present in any way, which means Rivers of America at WDW was always on the chopping block. They've always had plans of removing it. Cry all you want but it was going to happen eventually.
You'll always have Rivers of America at Disneyland in Anaheim,CA.
@jake_sabrwolf9795 maybe when I'm in Anaheim I'll stop by & ride the people mover, oh wait...
Yes next to the reedy Creek energy services facility.
Removing the water is such a bad idea. Immersion gone, just eye sore and rocks. American West isn't just ROCKS. There is water! Beautiful ones too! We need water features in the parks. Nature soothes and calms. Having big thunder mountain without any water around is just a travesty. Thanks Disney !
Yes horrible !
I’m thinking / hoping that the cars area will be quietly canceled, due to the tepid reaction to the announcement, the waning popularity of Cars, and the priority Villains land will take over it. I think a much better idea would be to finally bring Western River Expedition to life, connecting to Big Thunder, and hiding Villains Kingdom from guests’ sight line while in Frontierland.
Burbank is not smart enough to cancel this horrible idea. When they see that we all hate it, it only makes them double down and give us their finger.

Replacing it but keeping the name misses the point
Speaking of 9:08, they can keep the railroad open during Villains Land’s construction, they can just run the train backwards from Frontierland to Fantasyland, and forwards from Fantasyland to Frontierland. They’ve done this already in 1990-1991 when they were building Splash Mountain.
So I don’t think the railroad will be closing this time.
It does not operate efficiently in shuttle mode, which probably explains why they did not do that during the Tron closure.
So...is this all to keep everything inside the railroad border, then? Shame, actually: It was a nice bit of symbolism, the idea of Villains Land being "separate" from the rest of the park.
Yes. And then they could make t-shirts with “wrong side of the tracks” on it. Of course the wrong would be subjective here as the villains would think they were on the right side. 😂
PLUS the fact that both Beyond Big Thunder areas are supposed to have "just" TWO attractions each...it's not like it couldn't be done!
It kinda makes sense that the Haunted Mansion would be next to Villains’ Kingdom, as it does have to do with ghosts and spooks.
They are friendly ghosts? except for Constance.
@@keouine Most of them are silly spooks… And they can help provide a transition to encounters with more malicious beings.
@@keouineConstance is a literal serial killer 😂 If anyone should herald Villains Land it’s her. 👰 🪓 🩸 👻 😜
Honestly, considering how icy the D23 response was to the Cars announcement in comparison to all the others, in large part BECAUSE of fears of exactly this...I hope the widespread fan reactions might cause them to reconsider a bit--much like how visitor demand for Pirates got them to axe the intended Old West flume ride.
Idk man, they said construction on it starts early next year, real close. Given that they have a Cars Land in California, I think they’re definitely doing it
@@bigc2626Here's the thing: The blog all of this is coming from says there'll be a year for fans to "say goodbye" to Tom Sawyer Island and the steamboat. So we should have time.
@@Hard_Boiled_Entertainmentthat is the really surreal thing is they could’ve started on all of this already (in Florida at least Disneyland needed more city approval) but they’re really dragging their feet
Like they *still* don’t understand the urgency Epic Universe is bringing
It’ll be open for 5 years (and Universal’s going to quickly move onto their rumored Pokémon and Zelda lands) before Disney gets 1 of these projects open
It’s good in this case because hopefully the backlash will save the Muppets and part of the River but this is really shortsighted on their part
It seems like in the concept art, show scenes for the Cars attraction are strategically positioned in the opposite direction from pathways around it. The perimeter is also being filled with tons of foliage. I could totally see them staging the back of certain small buildings/structures to look like something that would appear in that area (country vs bayou) since you won’t see the back of it when you’re riding the attraction.
I get the sense that Imagineers are trying to not have you be able to see a talking car driving next to Haunted Mansion or coming out of Country Bear Jamboree. I don’t think you’re going to get the same sound intrusion like Cars Land or Test Track because this is meant to be off-road terrain not a speed chase.
I have a feeling that this is all going to work nicely once it’s finished.
My hope is that this ‘new Frontierland’ becomes an area similar to Grizzly Peak / GRR or Wilderness Lodge - beautifully landscaped (much like Fantasy Springs), natural elements - stuff Disney does really well. Waterfalls, streams, geysers, forests, mountain peaks. An area that can be explored -but also incorporates a Cars ‘track’ that moves through it, integrated into the landscape, adding dynamism and an e-ticket. If done right, it should feel like an enhancement of Tom Sawyer’s and ROA - not a replacement.
Yes, they need to really deliver on the rock work, landscaping and water features. But at Cars Land at DCA, you really hear those cars driving by...so every walkway, shop, and restaurant around that entire circle from Haunted Mansion to Big Thunder is going to hear that SWOOOSH constantly...I think it may drive people kind of nuts! Waterfalls will be critical to mask the noise and hopefully the cars are largely behind rock work so you don't have them driving right by you everywhere you go...in the colonial New England village and Old West town...jeez.
Whatever happened to “ Beyond Thunder Mountain”.
If the elimination of RofA happened in Disneyland, I would riot - but it doesn't feel as devastating at Magic Kingdom. I see what they are doing with creating different elements of "frontier", and I'm cautiously optimistic about this. Also - from a Disney business perspective, further differentiation in their parks, especially domestically, is only going to be a good thing for driving guests seeking new experiences and settings. It stings a little now, but I think this will be a good play by them in the long run.
Eh I think it’ll ruin the theme cohesion and will have a permanent negative impact on the park (which was already differentiated with Liberty Square, the Haunted Mansion, Country Bears etc)
They could do this is in a much more thoughtful way, also they have a ton of expansion room
Just hoping they can change the plans before they get going is all
I can see repurposing the island and back portion of the river, but really hoping they keep the ‘riverfront’ from Haunted Mansion to Country Bears so the vibe isn’t completely ruined….
Hello Disney!
Cars don’t belong in Frontierland so why replace the classic riverboat attraction and Tom Sawyer island for them. What will happen to Liberty Square?
I don't think anything will happen to LIberty Square, other than having it look onto rugged mountains (according to the art) rather than a river.
Show buildings can be put beyond the railroad, just like tianas, pirates, etc. Enter show building under or over the RR.
I think this is such a terrible idea, and it’s all for Cars which is the worst part
My exact thoughts.
i mean it’s a weird choice but i think the ride will be fun and scenic and definitely more exciting than the river boat to be honest
@@greatnarwhal9106it’s not all about what’s exciting or not. It’s about what works thematically the most in the land. If we going off exciting then we should change it’s a small world into a roller coaster lol
There’s a reason they didn’t show they art during the panel
@@MichaelJLauer I mean I don’t think that’s a terrible idea 😂 but I think that might just be me
I’m watching it from Japan I'm looking forward to Cars. But I think it would be strange to see the scenery of the western frontier and off-road cars together.
I think Tokyo Disneyland is lucky since Disney don’t own that park and not a bunch of IP attractions at that park and why can’t the Oriental Land Company operate these American parks
Since they're getting rid of Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America that adds to the count of original classic Disney attractions/rides going away and never coming back,So now how many old Disney attractions/rides are still in the park from Walt's Era and The Original Magic Kingdom left now?
Walt never saw the finished Magic Kingdom. And many if not most of the original rides in Disneyland are gone or changed, and that started when Walt was still alive. If nothing changed there’d be no incentive to keep going back.
If they want to build a cars ride, they should put it on top of Tomorrowland Speedway, not River's of America. If you thought Magic Kingdom was hot and chaotic before, wait until you take away that massive, tranquil body of water! They're going to ruin this park.
How would that make sense tho? Remember that these cars from the movies are old designs and Tomorrowland is all about the future.
@@KAISOO680 it makes more sense to me than talking cars being a part of a land themed to the 19th century American frontier.
Completely HORRIBLE HORRIBLE idea to remove the water they could have kept at least a big pond to keep the river boat as a restaurant at Least and keep a little freshness in that area ! The river boat is such an iconic landmark they are removing !!! It’s really horrible
I'm starting to think Disney is focusing TOO MUCH on intellectual property in the parks.
maybe one day we will get a new classic original dark ride
10000 percent
Disney announced a couple of months ago that they are doubling down on IP attractions in the parks. They very intentionally have absolutely NO plans for any original attractions in the short to middle term.
Noooooooo? Really?
Just now??
Jack is always the most sensible and logical Disney Vlogger on YT. He refuses to "rage-bait". Thank you for that.
I’ve got to personally thank through it before I can form a full opinion, but it’s not really beyond Thunder Mountain, more like to the side of Thunder Mountain
This expansion is NOT it, I also really dislike how the red rock color will just basically be barely showing, just making frontierland look weird.
13:00 The coaster shown in this artwork almost looks like an RMC (Rocky Mountain Construction) coaster, and if it was manufactured by RMC that would be an amazing addition for the thrill seekers, however, Disney has a past of working with Vekoma, all Magic Kingdom coasters are Vekoma, so it could be a Vokoma coaster, but Vekoma doesn’t have any coaster types that look like this, unless it’s custom designed. I’m not a big fan of Vokoma, but I guess we will have to wait and see.
Wow you did a beautiful job breaking this down. 👏🏼👏🏼
They are going to completely destroy the park by removing the rivers. Those cartoon cars going in there is insanity.
But you're still gonna go and ride it...
seems a bit dramatic
Agreed! It will ruin the entire park
I think this looks cool and different. But I understand how you feel because when I saw this my first thought was I would be really sad if they did this at Disneyland cuz it would ruin the whole look. But I was ok with it in WDW because it’s not my “home” park… but I can see why it’s upsetting…
People are acting like toddlers with toys they don't play with anymore. But once someone else plays with those toys, they throw a fit.
I hope they can get all of this built by 2040
That is WAY TOO long my guy

Removing the river will destroy the feeling of that area.
Amazing. Utterly amazing.
I have never seen a company practice such utter contempt for their customers. Who asked for this? Where are the masses who prayed and pleaded for this?
That’s exactly right. They hate the families that used to love them.
I 100% completely agree with you.
@@iamNOTaronpurschemorales1966 Many were asking for a Villains land and Cars is popular with the kiddos so the want is there.
You realize there are loads of people who wanted this for WDW. The cheers for the new lands is a clear indication of that.
@@nubby2790We asked for beyond not, in front of in the most beutiful wooded area of the park knocking out a classic attraction.
Bad idea….the river is a great place….the mark twain is Disney….this is not Frontierland
I live in central Florida now but grew up in Southern California. Mine Train Through Nature's Wonterland was my favorite Disneyland attraction (which eventually made way for BTMRR). The concept art for Magic Kingdom's "cars land" reminds me of that, with the mountains, forests and geysers. It's a subtle nod to 1960s/70s Disneyland Fronteirland for me.
Doubt they’ll try to do something similar at Disneyland in CA but you never know these days. TSI and the ROA in California is sacred to Disneyland. Not to mention it’s the only place they’re able to hold Fantasmic! 🤷🏻♂️
Daniel Jue is in charge creatively over here now, he seems very experienced and accomplished so I trust his judgement more than the WDW team

They said that they had 7 Disneyland Resorts worth of Expansion plot
They desperately need expanded capacity
But they’re spending money on bulldozing and replacing current beloved attractions
Insanity
Because it’s cheaper to use the land from rivers of America
Exactly! I was thinking how they always boast how much space they have in WDW, but instead they take away beloved (ok, maybe not so popular) classic attractions to ‘expand’. Not what I think most of us were expecting/hoping. I feel like Disney is intentionally messing with us (but, I know, it’s all about the💰).
Disney relived villainy with Wish by the antagonistic character, King Magnifico; he had powerful green sorcery; dark magic. Some dark magic is red, and some dark magic is purple but most dark magic is black.
I hope they make an Ice cream shop serving Custard, snow cones, lemonades in Carsland & maybe a restaurant like Flo’s!
you know, im kind of happy this is happening because i hate whenever the riverboat blows its whistle and creates a very loud noise (probably even louder than the railroad train's whistle)
Removing the river is like removing the park in theme park. Are they going to replace the moat next because it’s underutilized and doesn’t sell merch??
I'm getting around to it replacing Tom Sawyers Island. I'm getting around to it being largely wilderness themed and being a segway between a much larger and robust Villians land. What I can't get around is it's theming to Cars, it just makes it clash so much more with the surround attractions and theme than it would otherwise.
Thank you for the breakdown. That was very good. Appreciate it.
Walking out the Hall Of Presidents to see a Cars type of land is just bad. This is almost like replacing history with IP's. Why not bring some type of Pocohantas themed area to Tom Sawyer's Island. That's something I could get behind and would keep faith with Frontierland.
This is one of the worst ideas Disney has done. I love the tranquility of Rivers of America. They are ruining everything.
One reason I choose Disney over Universal, is the park has pleasant quiet areas with trees and water. Universal Studios is like a Walmart Parking lot in some areas.
Agree
Ummmmm...no.
@@ERock0183 you can go literally anywhere else on the planet if you want constant noise and ugly views, give people 5 feet of space to enjoy peace
Remember the sound of Test Track cars going by every 20 sec? Well now that sound will be constant all over that area of the park.
I agree, I don't think people realize how this sound will take over that entire side of the park. They need a lot of loud waterfalls around the perimeter of this attraction to mask the sound.
I never knew you could get to Tom Sawyer's Island, so I won't miss it at all
With the steam boat on display, it'll be another treasured Disney artifact after so many years of guests riding it. Having more Cars details in another Disney Park resembles Cars on the Road. The villain floats from the Disney parades of old ought to be used again for Villains' Kingdom and that display shelf with the head of Snake Jafar can be moved into it.
It is not an expansion, if you are taking away things that already exist. That called a replacement. This is devastating to the theme of the land, and will completely destroy the character. I thought they might shorten the river and move the railway a bit like they did for Star Wars, and use the space outside the berm for the attraction. Shame on Disney for this .
I wish they kept Rivers of America and put large bridges over, and kept the Riverboat Bell as well. I LOVE that riverboat. They could have put a New Orleans style band on that river boat and celebrated New Orleans even more, to go with The Princess and the Frog. but PLEASE have an actual land with landscape to explore and go around. I LOVE walking around nature, and having that as part of Frontier Land is absolutely awesome. Have Disney shops and eateries, and the attractions, be within that area, with longer paths for those who want to explore, and shorter ones for those who want to get there faster.
Thank you
Remember that Disney shortened the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island in Disneyland, and at the expense of closing down some classic attractions that are quintessentially Walt Disney over an extended time, for a Star Wars land that didn’t work out. Sounds like Disney is repeating the same mistake in Florida.
Trading in Tom Sawyer's island and the river boat for 3 E-ticket rides.. a kid ride and all the Merch Cars/Villains will produce this is a no brainer...
I honestly love this. Look how quickly you’ll be able to move between Haunted Mansion, Big thunder and splash and on multiple paths instead of one. This is going to free up so much congestion and and new rock work, water features and trees. How epic. Don’t get me wrong I love the aesthetic of the River boat but this is going to help so much.
I mean we might as well put airport style floor escalators everywhere in the parks if the speed of travel is all that matters 😭
@@-dtuyhnjhggvjjjn it isn’t so much about the speed of travel between attractions, but more about crowd flow in the park. If crowds are more dispersed, the travel time wouldn’t be an issue. I’m sure no one’s ideal day at magic kingdom is spending several hundred dollars or more to just be trapped in a sea of people. I’ve had times where I’m literally feet from Haunted Mansion for my return time and I can’t get to it because of a huge group of people or scooters or strollers etc. Instead of taking the one and only path through frontier land, you will now be able to take multiple paths and avoid the parade route during festival of fantasy. Not only are they adding the new walkways, they are adding attractions that will pull people in. It’s going to help so much.
Wow you did a beautiful job breaking this down. 👏🏼👏🏼. Also maybe they don’t want bears hanging out on the island any more 🤣🤣
i might be in the minority but i really do like this idea and think it’ll be a cool new more modern take on a land that has felt pretty aged, cars might not be the best ip to use but i don’t mind the rivers of america being used for new expansion space
I can’t see any upside to the park taking away the beautiful scenic vistas and the breathing room
Really consider the downsides here, this isn’t something that won’t have major consequences
Right along with Jack, we all instantly went to pulling out our maps🗺️ and rulers📐 We need to see what is going where, and its respective footprint😌😅
Wow, it’s like they want to ruin the parks intentionally. Cough cough. If they actually go through with this, there will be no magic left in magic kingdom.
Paving over rivers of America is a horrible decision. I know it doesn’t get a lot of foot traffic but it provided a valuable ambience that tied the haunted mansion, liberty square, and Frontierland together. It’s ironic that radiator springs is paving over another rural town when there is plenty of unused property around the magic kingdom, the designers obviously didn’t get the theme of the first cars movie.
Super excited about these announcements. Not really sad about Tom Sawyers island or rivers of America leaving. It was a lot of unused space. I do wish they would keep the liberty belle docked and they could turn it into a restaurant and call it “Steamboat Willie’s”
As an avid Cars hater, it’s just disappointing that a beloved section and attractions would be removed from Magic Kingdom and replaced by Cars of all franchises.
Unpopular opinion here: I’m excited that Cars is coming to MK and that Tom Sawyer’s and Rivers of America are being removed to make way for it! I’ve been coming to Disney for years (and even did a brief stint working there 😅), and I’ve only gone over to Tom Sawyer’s once. It was never worth my time and trouble to go again. It is definitely underutilized space in an area that is some of the most prime real estate on earth. We can be nostalgic, but at the end of the day, it’s a great business decision and those have to be made sometimes however unfortunate. I’m sure no one will agree with me, but that’s okay 😂
I know the comments are just gonna be filled with negativity People complaining and Whining But I agree what you said
Oof Now I hope No one comes after me 😅
Sure but at the same time not everything has to be new flashy exciting and modern. I always enjoyed going to the island and the riverboat but that's just me.
What I loved about Tom Sawyers Island is that you could roam about and have your own adventure. It was actually a lot of fun with all the caves and places for my kids to play. Similar to the Swiss Family Treehouse
I feel like just as I was getting used to the idea of putting Cars in Magic Kingdom, they hit us with this news about the removal of Rivers of America. I’m still very much in shock, but I think you’ve made some good points in this video that are helping me to feel a bit better about the change.
Like every other redefining change we’ve seen from Disney in the past, I’m sure all will be well once the dust settles. And in any case, I am beyond excited for this Villains Land and can’t wait to hear more details about that.
Nah this is inexcusable. Even Disneyland kept there Rivers of America for the addition of Galaxy's Edge.
