I've used this method several times. Works great. Thanks for sharing bro.
Great video , as a woman on my own , it is pretty simple … I have gaps and weeds and grass keep growing… will try this next week ..thank you
How did it go
Excellent, clear video and commentary. Many thanks!👍
Well explained. Good video Bud. Thanks
I have a gardner coming on Thursday to do this dry brushing so that the weeds are prevented from growing between the slab stones.
Very helpful video.
Thank you.😊
This is very helpful! Thank you for sharing.
Your video was a great help , thank you my friend.
Going to follow your advice and tips as the end results looks good.. thanks for sharing

Thanks, I will try your method.
I will do this i need to do my parents patio slabs, thanks great tip
Watched vid and tried really works great job great vid well done👏👏👏
Sand cement ready mixed....easy!
Looks good will try it thanks
This is so smart!
So do you need a plastic membrane under the slabs or can this work without it?
No that’s not effective
@@makhan4908Which of the two options are you saying is not affective?
@@DelTangBrav the plastic
It wouldn't be time or cost-effective to lift the pavers, add plastic, and relay them. However, I’ve noticed that where there’s no plastic membrane under the slabs, weeds are able to take deeper root and even grow up from below. With a plastic sheet in place, weeds only grow from above, making them easier to remove.
Thank you I will try this ❤❤❤❤
Good to know, I'll try this
have you tried compacting the powder after brushing it in?
Fantastic!
Excellent ❤
Thank you for the video. Someone else asked my question but there wasn't really an answer, will this method still be effective without any plastic underlay? I have just had all my weeds professionally jet washed away and want to do something to prevent them coming back. Thank you!

@@MrMakeStuff thanks buddy
great thanks i will do this
Seems good to me. 😊
What about the drainage? I think it will be difficult for the (rain) water to go under the soil.
When the slabs were laid, they should have a natural slope towards your drain to direct the water to the drainage source.
Will this work for a brick driveway? We are inundated with weeds growing between the gaps and ants excavating the sand out from the joints to build nests.
It will, just be sure to clear all the gaps of roots before you begin to stop old roots growing through
@@MrMakeStuff Thank you. A really clever idea.
I discovered that Weedol for weeds in lawns sprayed over the cracks where the ants are working gets rid of them pretty quickly but best to do it as soon as you see signs of the ants getting started.
@@MrOldhoot Thank you 👍
Very good
My mom's garden is overgrown with brambles and various weeds. The people who installed the slabs years ago did a terrible job.
I'll be clearing the brambles, but I need a good, low-maintenance solution since it's unmanageable for her at this age… this looks great but how do you get it so clean? What do you use to grt rid of of weeds please
Please take a few moments to watch the video. I show each part of the process
Hi thank you i mean any suggestions of how to get rid of the weeds first? Im using a strimmer but cant get into the gaps.
ruclips.net/video/7CmExG0FDyY/видео.html
Hey... So I did all that and it seems that it'll work just one question, how do I clean the slabs? They're full of dust now
ruclips.net/video/ZpmBllnPmbg/видео.html
@@MrMakeStuff Thanks a lot!
This is wicked. Going to have to try this over summer.. If we actually get some dry weather😂. Rookie question, does the same premise apply for brick driveways? Only moved in and I’ve done a fair bit of weeding on the drive, boiling water, salted it etc but they find a way of coming back
I tried here ruclips.net/video/7CmExG0FDyY/видео.html
Does this effect the drainage of patio area ? Cheers
If your patio was built with a slight incline towards drainage then no. If you rely on the water draining through the gaps then yes
Thank you appreciated
If tried this method exactly as outlined. It worried me a bit when you said the water is drawn up especially as you had used a membrane. My experience, my mix didn’t harden at all. I sort of thought that might happen. 😢😢
In the video, you can see that moisture is still being drawn up despite the plastic membrane. This is evident from the change in the mix color. Moisture is present both in the depth and the atmosphere.
Plastic membrane but moisture drawn up from where?

So probably like condensation like you see when you fill glass with cold water. Moisture is everywhere I guess
Thanks for the dry mix application to fill garden slab gaps. Your building sand is red and seems rather fine. We have construction sand here in the US and its not so fine and its not red. Can I still use this or must the sand be powdery rather than grainy? Wonder what to ask for at the Big Box store?
Builder's sand, also known as plasterer's, bricklayer's, or mason's sand, can vary in color depending on its origin. The color itself isn't crucial. If you request sand for rendering or for use between the layers of a brick wall, you should receive something similar.
Will it work on larger gaps (about 1cm) between the flags?
Always butt slabs up when layed. Then there's no pointing needed. Because it Always comes out with frost over years .
We have block paving. All butted up real tight. Weeds still grow.
Brush rock salt in. Hey presto no weeds
The nature of it there will always be gaps even half a mm gap will allow weeds to grow. The idea is to fill the gap with this mix which means any seeds don't grab root. I still don't have Weeds
Just Rock Salt on its own ? Thanks
Vinegar fish and chips 🍟 and 🍅 sauce
Hi there, great vid and tips, thank you. Ive just done this method but used sharp sand, problem im having is air gaps in dry mix between just 1 slab, i brush over the sides then half hour later air gaps again, always same slab the rest are fine. Hot weather here, doesnt seem to be drawing moisture from ground or very little. Any help or tips massivly appreciated inadvance. Praps i shud have used building sand? All best 👍👍
Not sure about sharp sand, i used building sand and that worked well for me
I've watched a few videos and the consensus seems to be sharp sand mix for laying, building sand mix for jointing.
Why didn't you compact it and fill it again until it reaches the top?
Not needed, with the dry mix it just fills the gap as you brush it. Think about sand filling an empty space to lift stones. Have you seen Indiana Jones
I don’t have a plastic membrane under my slabs. Am I still ok to use this method?

Hi for this whole area you done how many bags of each in total did you use?
Thanks

Can I use on mono block

Is sharp sand and cement okay and ive got about 1cm gaps just laid my patio recently myself! And need help with this bit i have load of sharp sand left over and also what did u do with all the access dry cement mix did u leave it there a couple off days, before cleaning off ?
Many of your questions will be answered in the video
can you tell me if 1 yr later you can pressure wash slabs without mix being washed out
Pressure wash the slabs but avoid the joint gaps. No matter how carefully you work, pressure washers are designed to remove particles from gaps.
Ready mix is easier. You need to say what sand you used.
Maybe if you watch long enough you will see all the information your asking about in the video
Can you do this for crazy paving?
It will drive you crazy but why not
Can this be done on block paving?
Yes
i tried this, I have the sand stone colour slabs, I tested this method over a few slabs, and it litely stained the slabs, took me3 hours to "scrub" the slabs clean, I think this method works best with grey slabs, also maybe I didnt trust the process to "wash off" the slabs with a hose, im not sure, it was felt too risky at the time leaving the powder on the whole slab..
I dont have coloured slabs, so I'm unable to comment. If you're not confident in the process being shown, it's always best to check with and pay a professional to do it.
What about pressure washing later ...will it take out the cement in the gaps ?
Pressure wash the slabs but avoid the joint gaps. No matter how carefully you work, pressure washers are designed to remove particles from gaps.
This will only work if you have a membrane underneath otherwise they will come back
Yes, I do explain the membrane and other details later in the video,. Here's another video you might find interesting on the subject ruclips.net/video/gRSRHyfNxTU/видео.html
If there is a heavy down pour of rain you have to think where will it drain away.
When the slabs were laid, they should have a natural slope towards your drain to direct the water to the drainage source.
its to strong mix John
I agree Mustafa

Use strong weed killer
Trying to avoid chemicals where possible
It's not that a big deal removing weeds. Just use weedkiller that gets to the roots in early spring and keep on top every month.
Can I give jou my adres 😂
It don't work 😅
Which bit
