Hey there, I have a weird issue where it was working on my computer for months and stopped (Apple M3 Max chip). I was using it yesterday but today won't recognize the drive. I can see it in the Disk Utility but it says Unmounted and won't mount. My M1 MacBook Air recognizes it, however. Do you think it's the cable or should I transfer all the date, reformat it, and try again? So strange. I checked all the privacy preferences and restarted and even tried swapping cables with a different external drive that is recognized and none of that worked.

My question is this 8gb vs 16gb in macbook air and macbook pro if i work in a 3d modelling and raw picture on a photoshop and video editing in 4k,rendering videos, Adobe premiere pro using macbook air is sufficient for the all the work and what types of ram i used to 16gb or 8gb. Hello. Can I ask if this solution will also work with my new Mac M1 running on macOS Big Sur. I have an Apple USB Superdrive to play my dvd's on but nothing will play. I have checked in finder the External disks and CDs, DVDs and iPods are both ticked, The Usb Superdrive shows in the top right corner of the screen and when I open it it won't play, it's just a blacked out box, so I am asking before doing anything that will make the situation worse. Also the quick time player is showing in my Applications folder in Finder but not in my About this computer overview under storage ( manage) so totally bamboozled at the moment. What is the allocation unit size of the samsung t7 1tb right out of the box? I accidently formated my ssd and now that I wanna return it back to what it was, I cant seem to find it on the internet. All I know is that it comes in exfat out of the box.

Have you got any info in resurrecting a drive after trying to clone a macOS11 system? All was fine in OS10, so these are issues now. It has destroyed a partition on my optical external after First Aid (updating from Exfat to APFS, never used), and half my Sandisk USB stick (MacOS Extended to APFS) which I used for Time Machine backups. First Aid failed the first one. Will not run FA on the USB as I fear it will destroy the drive.
Any software you can recommend to fix these? I still have a Catalina OS, so any advice to fix it would be great.

I have a thumb drive from my PC that just died, and want to open it on my 10-year old MAC which is still going, though slowly. The external drives don't show up in Finder, but do show up in Disk Utility. I definitely don't want to erase my files, so what do I do in order to access these files?

When I am trying to use my External Hard Drive or Pen Drive directly on the Type C port given in the Macbook, It does not work, not even showing any light and when I am using same Pen Drive or Hard Disk via Dock (Belkin) the Pen Drive and Hard Dick starts working. ?? Unfortunately this solution did not work for me. I am using a samsung evo 870 where I installed catalina in order to run it externally on my mac mini late 2012, but even though I have formatted this thing twice on my MBP, the mac mini still gives me a message that the disk is not readable. The repair option finds no issues with the drive. I am stuck right now, any other suggestions?
i have a WD ssd in a sabrent shell connected by usbc to my m1 air. I had the drive formatted and working but when plugged in again it doesnt show up anywehre. ive restarted, tried everything in this video and sabrents "where is my drive" video but cant find it :( i can find it on Systems Information the USBc port tho
Hi, thanks for the closer look to recover WD passport external drive with Mac data. So far no look with your methods. It's not showing up on Mac at all. However it's showing up on my Windows labtop. But can't read it. Can I recover my mac data in windows? And then somehow read it back on a Mac?
mine is saying that the erase process has failed. it also says disk5s1 couldn't be unmounted because it is in use by process 25519 (assetLoader) so I don't know what to do. any suggestions?

Yeah I've had way more issues (including the external drive not appearing) since I switched to m1 macbook air for video editing than I ever had on windows
Even after all the fixes sometimes the drive just doesn't appear
but for final cut pro, the problems are totally worth it

My external hard drive was working fine. I was torrenting some files and then my screen frozen. I turned off my macbook and when I turned it on it was not showing up in my finder. It is also not showing up in Disk Utility. When I am in storage, it shows up on USB Disk. But I not sure where to go from there. Please help. Thanks.

I have a T7 and the drive works perfectly well with the M1 MacBook but the PSSD software doesn't detect it. hence I couldn't use the password protection.

I've recently done this because I added a t7 ssd to my mac mini hub, but I only got APFS when I formatted the drive. What's the difference?

Hi, if I have an existing NTFS portable hard disk that has files in it, hence i can’t format it, is there any way to fix this problem that mac can’t read or write on it?
My external disk drive is recognizing some disks but not others. What happens if the disk never appears on the utility disk nor on the desktop. Other disks are working just fine. Any fix for this? I did notice that the disks that are not working are a different brand name than the others.

I have a usb c hub for my 2019 MacBook air. I can charge the MacBook through the hub, so it seems to be working, but when I plug something into the hub, it is not detected by the MacBook. The MacBook seems to recognise the hub in System Information. Any idea why it's not recognising any usb devices?

Hi! How safe is to adding kext? Like paragon ntfs driver for example. I am kind of person who like to keep everything original and how it is suppose to be. But in case I need to copy smthng on NTFS drive (let’s say it is not my drive) I also want to have an option. Also my LG tvos doesn’t support exFAT presently.

I have a SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD 2TB Drive (USB-C). It was originally formatted as EXFAT so that it could be read on MacOS and Windows. It was able to be used on both until randomly one day my 2018 MacBook Pro was no longer detecting the drive (did not even appear in the Disk Utility). When I went to plug it into a Windows PC laptop, then it was detected and I could open it to view and access the files. Do you know what could be causing this issue?

I have a new Macbook Pro M1 Max and it is not mounting my Seagate. It shows up on my disk utility. Also, it opens just fine with all of the files on my wife's Macbook M1 Air. I'm lost. I don't want to erase because I have a lot of data on here that I can't lose. Any suggestions?
I had a problem with an ereader not mounting on my Mac, despite working fine at first. It should just appear as storage. Eventually I discovered that if I connected the ereader to a small (unpowered) hub, then attach the hub to my Mac, it would mount correctly. No idea why it only works via a hub, but something worth trying if you have a device that should mount but doesn't.

This has just happened to my Medio 2012 MacBook Pro.
It provides power to the USB ports, but it won't read data. It doesn't show up in disc utility either. I've tried everything. 😭
This happened to me. All I did was connect a charger to my MacBook and then shutdown and restart the mac with the external hard drive plugged in and it worked. I don’t know if this is a fix but my external ssd sometimes doesn’t work on my MacBook Pro M1 when it’s battery powered

My WD external HDD is not being seen by my M1 MacBook Air. I connect it to the Macbook using a Microsoft dongle ( because it does not have usb C). The usb on the dongle works perfectly because I tried it with a mouse. The HDD works perfectly with my mid 2012 MacBook Pro but it is not seen by the new Mac :( any ideas?

It doesn't work for me in Big Sur with the T7 (MBP2020). I can only access the HD, I can't use the Touch program. Does not recognize the program, is in a loop, asks to install something that is already installed.
