I was drafted into the army on May 12, 1958, and was stationed at Fort Ord for my two-year hitch, getting out on May 12, 1960. After 8 weeks of basic training and 8 weeks of cook and baker school, I lived in a small trailer park on LaSalle Street in Seaside with my wife. Our first child was born at the army hospital at Fort Ord in October 1959. I remember seeing a few movies in this theater. After entering the main gate, you would turn left on (I believe) the very first street. This video really brings back the memories. Thanks so much for posting.
In 83-84 I saw 1941 there. General Stillwell played by Robert Stack and Stillwell hall nearby. What a trip. Stillwell Hall and The Doughboy Theater should if been saved and moved to a location and made a historical museum.
When I was there in 1979 I saw the boys in company C I lived across the street from the Doughboy at 1st 51st ADA ran by it most mornings while doing PT
Some very fond 'hate' memories of that place. 🙂 Started Basic at Ord in October of of 1972. After keeping us up late the night before, and after PT and breakfast where we were told to chow down by the Drill Sgt's, as we had plenty of time before our training would start, we then marched to the theater on an icy cold morning. We entered the building, took our seats, and were sternly warned to not fall asleep. I swear, every drill sgt started acting like a leopard looking for some prey, after about 15 minutes into the boring ass training film. They caught a bunch of 'trainees', and I came damn close to nodding off, but got away without a smoke session, unlike others. Like I say, "fond hate memories". 😊
The last use of the old Doughboy was in the late 80's for Fat's Wallers "Ain't Misbehaving " done with the Fort Ord Caberet Theater Live theater group and the Army's solider show Fort Ord . So much History lost . so sad

Near the end of film they show the old laundromat that was at the site of the Old Main Gate
@1Sgtgibb I grew up in Seaside, California, mainly in the 1960's. Can you offer more regarding a theatre fire? I don't recall it as a child.
I lived in campus housing near here in the late 90's and always wanted to venture inside but never had enough courage. Regrettable. :(
I saw the Deer Hunter there with Private Jim McCarthy, Private Kevin Lanigan, Twatty. I wish I could come across those now. Good Times sort of.
I was there 1975
...saw jaws at that theater
I remember seeing the French Connection here in 1972 before Vietnam,
seems like centuries ago.
