I'm in athletics in school and I really want to do volleyball but I have no experience. This video is very helpful but are there any more tips to help me learn the basics?
Edit: Hi guys. Turns out i never did volleyball, but did cross country and track for a year. I also turned into a theatre kid and am no longer doing sports :)
SouthsideDream you should look at all her videos
1. Practice your serves, look up overhand serves, underhand serves, and sidearm serves.
2. Never ever make fists to bump or serve the ball! You can break your thumbs and other fingers that way. Here's what I do instead, first make a fist, second stick your fingers out, and lay your thumb flat beside your index finger. The end result should look like you just folded your hand down.
3. If you can, purchase a cheap volleyball to practice with. Try serving and bumping with a friend, parent, or wall.
4. Even if you don't want to be a setter, practice setting. When you rotate and are in front of the net you are now the setter. The way my coach taught us how to set is by first throwing the ball in the air and catching it with your finger tips. Then you want to throw it, catch it, and then toss it in the air without spinning it. After that, throw it and toss it back in the air without catching it. Make sure it makes little to no sound, that way you know your using your fingertips.
5. When doing an overhand serve, don't hit it with a fist, instead hit it with an open hand on top of the ball.
6. And last but not least, don't give up! If you don't make the team tryout again next year. Your chances of getting on the team will be a lot higher due to having more experience and because the coach will know you already. Yes, the last part makes it sound like the coach pities you but, it's not that. It's that the coach has seen what you can do already, and if you've improved they will totally want you on their team.

@@nikyd.2620 shorts leggings t shirt sports bra so you dont hurt your boobas if you have them. No jeans obviously and nothing too heavy like a sweatshirt maybe a sweat band and knee pads just in case

To anyone that is having a tryout soon and is reading this comment, GOOD LUCK! You just got to hang in there and put your whole heart out on the court, and the coaches will notice! ♥️ You can do it, and even if you don’t make it, then there’s always next year just keep practicing!
I really thought volleyball was easy af because of Haikyuu until I actually tried it and got spiked in the face 😂
XD ive never been spiked in the face luckly but i have watched someone on my team serve a ball into another girls butt- that was funny-
I watched this last year before tryouts, I made a team as a complete backup by just a hair. My coach saw something in me and gave it a shot. I took that shot and ran with it. I was never really meant to be a real player, but I wanted nothing more then to be a libero, a real libero, not the back up, not the ds, a real, true, starting libero. I showed up early to every practice and stayed as late as I could to work on digging and passing in general. By mid season I was the starting DS and I was regularly on court. And by the end of the season I was a starting libero. This is my second season and I am still here, playing as hard as I can. Tryouts are this sunday and I really hope I can spark the same interest in the new coaches that I did in my old one. To all the new players freaking out, you are gonna be amazing. I promise. If you really want this more then anything else, you can do it. Good luck to all of you!

I tried out last year. I didn't get to be an active player, but I was a manager. I feel like that was best, because I learned the background of the game. All of the signals and rules. Along with forms and what they want. If you havent been on the team before, maybe go for that position if possible. Trust me, I learned so much from it and feel ready for this year's season! 💕🏐

Sakura Marie practice an hour a day, and make sure you’re working out and eating healthy to prep for tryouts. working on sprints and jumps are most important for volleyball. when you go to tryouts they may say “split by position”, then you go to wherever the ds/liberos go since you already know how to pass, but don’t limit yourself! i hit outside last season and now i am a libero on my current club team (i switched because i’m only 5’4.5” lolll) but will be trying out as a setter for high school, because the coaches asked me to do so. being versatile is very good skill to have, so work on having skill in all positions, and ESPECIALLY work on your serve. every play starts with a serve, and it’s what coaches are most strict with, along with serve receive and communication. overhand float serves are what i recommend starting with. good luck girlie!!

I had tryouts today and I didn't make the team. I am just so confused bc my coaches would correct other people, but never corrected me or gave any pointers, so I thought I was doing really good, but apparently not. I will try out for volleyball again next year but until then I will be doing an event in track that I will pick tomorrow. Never give up!
