i'm not surised they held up well. being filled with water limits the temperature of the container to right around 100°C.
when the rapture comes, and you cant find those neat twist top cans, you can just grind off the top rim of any beverage can, by rubbing it against concrete (or use a file) until you can pull off the top, to get a ridiculously lightweight cooking vessel.
