1. Sing the choral once as written.
2. All begin on "Komm" and sustain the chord for 4 seconds and - without a break sing first 2 measures according to the following scheme: Choir A holds each quarter-note for 4 seconds, other choirs: B-6, C-8, D-10, E-12 seconds. (Divide SATB in 5 in each group).
3. When you get to "Tod" sustain your note until all are singing their note on "Tod".
4. Sopranos begin 2nd phrase, holding the E flat for 4 seconds before the ATB enter simultaneously, and everyone sings the 2nd phrase according to the scheme, sustaining your note on "Ruh" until all are singing their note on "Ruh".
5. All begin measure 5 together and sing according to the scheme, holding the final note until all are singing their note on "-de". The chord will be sustained with the fermata.
6. Scale the dynamics:
Begin pp and increase to forte by measure 5.
Then begin a gradual decrescendo, ending the piece pianissimo.
The piece will last approx. 5 minutes.
English translation:
Come, sweet death,
come, blessed rest!
Come lead me to peace.

This was the last song I sang for my high school choir. This is one of those songs that shakes me to my very bones
80% of people: GET IN THE ROBOT SHINJI
20% of people: Thank you for helping me for school
1% (a.k.a. Me): EATEOT meets Evangelion
Was looking for a good version of the original but was pleasantly surprised. Outstanding doesn’t even begin to approach it. Genius arrangement.
Not at all. This is a product of a choir and a reverb or delay unit. And that has nothing to do with a "genius arrangement".
@@anonymusum I'm not going to argue with you because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
@@vestaarcadia So you don´t want to argue with me and then you start an argument with insulting me? Boy, I know the effect of reverb and delay units and you can hear these effects clearly without any doubt at the point when they switch it off. I have my own studio for many years with numerous effect units and I know what I´m talking about. But ok, I don´t want to argue with amateurs as well.
Go watch another performance of this piece and stop undermining the talent of those who are capable enough to mimic those effects to such a degree as to fool a "professional". You came into this with bad intentions from the get go and you are embarrassing yourself.
@@anonymusumou are simply just plain wrong. This is a live recording from a session inside a church. No reverb or delay at all. Just the acoustics inside of a church. Performance of the choir is great and the arangement Nystedt chose is also great. Dont wanna belive me? My sister is singing in this choir and did the recording session aswell.
Thank you for uploading this. I’m supposed to learn this piece over the summer but every other result is in English. Thanks, Evangelion
can't believe bach was inspired by evangelion sm he made his own version!
What a gorgeous and elegant piece of music
This song is what inspired the damage inc Intro r.i.p cliff burton
Really? I didnt know about that. I love that base solo and always thought it has so much classical vibe, like a bach sonata :).
Damage inc. Intro was inspired by this piece!
I was just about to comment that:)
@@masterofpuppets4771 tomorrow I have to write an exam about classical music. Wish me luck
@@mariovomhof2775 Good luck. Don't Stop believing.
@@masterofpuppets4771 thx bro. It went quite good I would say. Thanks to Cliff I have a better understanding of how classical music works. And if you look at orion bass solo there are tons of musical figures Bach used.
ok, but what part? i cant hear it. the end?
I had the privilege to sing this piece with my university choir, back in 1995

@Asriel Meemurr Both Bach's suite and End of Evangelion's theme have the same title
@@gregorybatara8105 also, Bach's music itself was used in End of Eva. It was Bach's "Jesus bleibt meine Freude" during the "what are dreams" sequence shortly after... A big event which I shall not spoil.
@@dr.portal4557 well spoil it, I've watched End of Eva and need context
@@gregorybatara8105 third empact. Sequence with real footage. That's where it's used

such a magnificant song!❤
i thought it would be like ‘i know, i know i’ve let you down’
It all returns to nothing...
Pd:Thanks Evangelion to make me discover this theme.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
I think this is not an arrangement, but an original composition based on a Bach's choral. It would more fair put in the video "Music by Knut Nystedt"
I semi-agree. The original composition says "arranged by Knut Nysted" on the score. Maybe it was Knut's little tribute to Bach and perhaps he didn't want to overstep his compositional mark - so he chose "arranged by".
Nystedt sorry.
+SheetMusicVideo Thanks for the reply and explanation. Nice work, humble and great composer.
+Miguel Astor
Nystedt is just "freezing" all original chords so that they overlap and slowly reapear at the end of each phrase. It is not an "original" composition...it is actually an original arrangment of the Bach's Chorale. So I think "arranged" is correct in this case. It is NOT an original composition.
+riccardo nova I respect your opinion but I disagree. This is a musical composition like "theme and variations" model as so many examples in music history. The composer procedure generates a work full of original sounds . Only the criterion of composer legitimize it as a musical arrangement, for me.
Fanstastische Interpretation!
This is more electronic than natural music. Using a reverb or delay machibe is the easiest way to alienate an audio file.
It is live recorded inside a church - big stone churches tend create reverb effects. But hey,...you are the pro as it seems and as you happily tell everybody xD
I couldn't find anywhere which choir sings here....
Thanks for the upload! The description is very helpful, but removes somehow the magic of the sound....
comment peut-on dire 15 syllabes en 5:15
This shit cured my depression
This is what you want to hear when you went from EATEOT to Evangelion.
I don't understand why the arranger's instructions involve counting "seconds." Since when is music measured in seconds, not beats? Who is making sure everyone's mental seconds are accurate or in sync? Why not just write it like all other Western music notation?
This is quite common with more modern compositions. And 1 second = 60bpm. Not so hard.
@@otaviolamounier6366 There is no reason to put it in "seconds" only to have to convert it to beats. Beats are what is conducted by the conductor. It's really unnecessary.
Almost everyone: Here from Evangelion
Me: Here because of the little Legionnaire from Sven Hassel's books
"Immortal Bach" vs "come sweet death"
does anyone see the contradiction?
*süßer
With double-s it would be pronounced differently in German.
curious that Bach alowe h.s. to make succesive 5ths
+Isaias Ramos Garcia That only applies to perfect fifths. The tenor and bass in the first measure move from a perfect fifth to a diminished fifth, which is perfectly acceptable.
i must refresh my knowledge in harmony
Isaias Ramos Garcia Well, yes and no. The problem is there shouldn't be an a-flat in the B- flat major chord first inversion as coded it continuo. It is a contemporary interpretation.
Isaias Ramos Garcia Try my rendition of the basso generale of this piece where I tried not to add anything from myself. (That is follow it strictly).

This arrangement has the power to heal. I have learned that the ear controls the immune system as well as the speed of integration of the cerebral hemispheres. The first time I heard this piece I was ill and by the end of it my vertigo had disappeared and I was well enough to arise and put in my usual busy day. Music cures mental illness and regulates most of the systems in the body, most especially through the right ear. You can learn more about my discoveries at my blog Mental Health through Music.
@love me - The "click bait" of the original comment might cast a shadow of dubious intent, but the science of which she speaks is spot on and true. Sound has power, just like fire... In the right hands sound waves can cure or kill.
ok cool
why do the crazies always show up on the old music videos? Why don't y'all comment on some new music videos, broaden your demographic

Sounds like Eric Whitacre!
+Artur Słotwiński You should check out Nystedts version of "Prayers of Kierkegaard" - so nice!
+Artur Słotwiński This was written way before Mr Whitacre remaking of this melody. He is the one sounding like Nystedt.
+Artur Słotwiński Well, Eric Whitacre has performed a piece very similar to this which was supposedly written by an American (whose name I forget now), but Nysted had already written this before the other chap, so I think he may have "borrowed" it ;-). I actually wrote to EW at the time and told him this - he didn't know of the Nystedt piece.
+Artur Słotwiński On the contrary, Whitacre sounds like this
I think the same!
Plagiarism of Edwin London's "Bach Again".
Sounds like a wannabe Ligeti...
What's the value of such an arrangement? I find no artistic purpose, no further insight to the original composition, just a superposition of harmonies...
+RobertArbroath Like lots of chorale?
+RobertArbroath Just LISTEN TO THE MUSIC and stop thinking its an arrangemente of someone else... then try to figure out if it has any kind of "artistic purpose" or any "value"
You have my sincere sympathies. I find it truly beautiful and deeply moving.
I don't know man, I just like music
@RobertArbroath - I agree. I used to do this sort of thing with various compositions myself when I was younger, just to see what it would sound like. It is particularly easy to do with chorales, and requires no intellectual effort whatsoever. Knowing how dead simple these particular clusters are to create, I am unable to enjoy it.
Mein Gott, was für eine Schei..e
