To all the negative comments to this performance, I disclose possible (ok, probable) bias being "so in love" but note, this is an obviously informal performance and not advertised as a tutorial. It is Susanna's informal interpretation/homage to her idols. She's not in any dreamworld of being a wannabe star...she's proven herself and just letting her hair down (oh what beautiful hair...sigh..) having a bit of fun. I've heard tapes of the Beatles themselves mockingly screwing with covers...
OMG! All the experts criticizing this performance. It's pop music on an accoustic guitar. You can improvise and modify any way you want. It's not classical music. If somebody wants to play an E major instead of an E7, or E9, or augmented, diminished or what the hell, that's their problem. This is Susanna freakin' Hoffs, who sings better than any of her critics, and if she wants to "improvise" a Beatle song and play it for an appreciative audience, and not a bunch of resentful haters on RUclips, no problem. I love her covers, improvised or not. And if anyone doubts her interpretive talent, just listen to her rendition of "The Look of Love" by Burt Bacharach that she did for the first Austin Power movie, and then criticize. If you don't like Susanna, just change to another video and watch Ariana Grande screaming her head off.
Thanks Eric. I was thinking about deleting the comments for this video. I recorded the show because I was a fan of Susanna and I wanted to share it with her fans. That was all. I never realized that it would turn into a critique of her performance. (She's playing the wrong chords, the guitar player sucks, where's the drummer, etc. ) The truth is she was playing with half a band. The other half was stranded out of town due to the weather. And to boot, some of the instruments were missing as well. So she was doing the best she could with what was available to her. Yeah, she could have canceled but figured she could do an acoustic show instead. It was still a fun night.
@@TJMattySpookyD That's called professionalism. She didn't want to disappoint her fans that had already paid their tickets. So she played with a "skeleton band", and I bet her fans were very grateful. And that criticism of "the guitarrist", well that's Andrew Brassell, that has worked in LA collaborating with Susanna, and Belinda Carlisle, and a number of other artists. He's from Nashville and got his opportunity in LA because Susanna's niece knew him, and Susanna's family let him stay in their guest room at the beginning. Thanks to his talent, Susanna wrote for her solo album "Someday", which was her first solo album in about 16 years, and Andrew Brassel contributed immensely to her songwriting and arrangements. He got his oportunity in LA thanks to Susanna. Not only is she 100% professional, she also is generous, giving that oportunity to the younger generation. The haters, well they haven't contributed squat to anything. I'm one of the grateful fans so thank you for posting this video of one of my favorite singers of all time.
The rarest thing about her is that she seems genuinely kind , intelligent, and down to earth, despite her obvious privelage and incredible genetic luck.
That's the wrong opening chord for this song. It's E augmented 11. Please don't screw that up. It's one of the greatest chords ever on a Beatle song. It's an open E on the sixth string for starters. Look to the right in the related vids list to see a tutorial on how to play it.
Mere technicalities, Lennon was notorious in his timekeeping and even remembering his own songs; big deal. Loved the original for nearly forty years, but this is a charming, gentle and pleasing version.
you're right, but is that the name of the chord . I love that chord and never heard it used anywhere else. low to high the chord is e g sharp c f sharp a.the f sharp is the 9th, so what is it.E aug 11add 9.whatever it's a great chord played by a great guitar player in a great band. glad you mentioned that.
Wrong chord intro by mister stooge hahaha.. (John played: Eaug9 = E+add9). But i like Susanna's (gorgeous woman) performance of one my favourite John's songs.
The audience are hardcore Susanna Hoffs fans that joking about her "Rick" or Rickenbacker 350 6 string "Susanna Hoffs Autograph" electric guitar. Those that are fans understand the jokes. Those that are too young, probably not. That's why the first third of this clip.
Next time, hire musicians who are willing to get off their butts and rock. Sorry, but it's lame. And where is the drummer? Can't do most Beatle numbers without one.
Hey Swifties. Take notice. No auto tune, no stage rehearsal with a dozen dancers, no effects. This is the real deal.
my heart for a woman who sings and plays Beatle songs
Susanna Hoffs never stops trying, never gives up. That's why we like her.
Her Rickenbacker guitar weighs over 7 lbs and requires fortitude to stay with while Susanna makes it look easy.
Real people. Playing real instruments. Real singing. The small mistakes are part of it.
Lovely!

She could sing the telephone book and I'd listen...
And i love her

Awesome. Like a studio take.
The rarest thing about her is that she seems genuinely kind , intelligent, and down to earth, despite her obvious privelage and incredible genetic luck.
Thanks
Elegant pop musician in a dress.
Nothing wrong with the performance. Not quite sure why all the hate, other than the obvious silly sexist comments.
Nothing wrong with her - the two dudes aren’t great
So in love!
Robert I totally agree !!!!

America loves your sarcasm
Susanna como siempre tan talentosa, tan hermosa, tan angelical, tan sensual, es perfecta !!!
A used to be a big fan of The Beatles though not anymore in fact. This was the first song I ever learned how to play on guitar. Good memory.

What are you gonna do, man...chicks spend more time picking outfits that learning to play their instruments.

Right, he plays just an A6 Chord

That sucked badly
OH DEAR
Girl is all over cute, but cute only goes so far. Why that first third of this clip?

Hey, it's the Bangles chick! "Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Learn the right chord to the song? No need! Awesome!"

Ughh no sorry, seems vampletely unrehersed with wrong chords and all.

Rubbish. They destroy the song. Oh, and such a thin voice. No.
