The NHL has NEVER seen something like this

- During last nights Vancouver Canucks vs Edmonton Oilers game, we got to see a coach, who is getting fired, get sent off as a hero of sorts. I have never, in any professional sport never less in the NHL, seen a fired coach in the midst of a losing season get send off with a standing ovation. It was a beautiful scene to say the least. I cover this, the game and some extras in todays NHL hockey highlight recap video!

*UPDATE* as I was making this video, Vancouver just officially announced Bruce's firing and the hiring of Rick Tocchet.
@@radovan739 not to mention some issues with mismanagement on the injury front too
@@Trumpsterfire101 lol
go vancouver coyotes
@rado van they’re at the cap dude. I think the owner is lousy, but cmon dude.
@rado van Your comment (and the tools giving you a thumbs up) is very uninformed. They are salary-capped, they need to get rid of most of their expensive (some of them definitely aren't "better players"), have a couple really bad years so they can get 1st round draft picks and rebuild over 4-5 years. They will never win their division, never mind the cup if they continue running this shitshow the way they run it from a management position. They continually spend way too much on a couple underperforming players and have no depth. The Canucks need to lose, and lose a lot, so they can rebuild the franchise. But management thinks winning a few games here and there to keep the ticket sales going is more important.
What a classy move by the Canuck fans....well done Vancouver.
and management…..horrible.
@@underscr0e Management looks like a shit show.
Class from the fans, classless from the organization.
Thanks :(
thanks we love bruce BRUCE THERE IT ISSSSSSSSSSS
Bruce knew that was his last game as a Canuck but he still cared enough to challenge that goal. Class.
Even though I enjoy Vancouver misery; this situation is a bummer for all. Canuck fans are fully aware this seasons turmoil is not on Bruce but on management and the team he was given. Good on all Canuck fans for showing him love and support during these past few games.
Boudreau....class act.
Vancouver management....not so much.
100% agreed
Go over the Canucks' entire history dating back to the Griffiths' era and they were ALWAYS like this. Look how they handled Luango, Bure, Tiger, (was traded for writing a book that wasn't even derogatory towards the organization save for a couple of dressing room cancers,) and countless other examples of players and coaches thrown under a bus to cover up GROSS mismanagement. The worst draft record in NHL history, the longest unbroken streak of shitty uniforms, and until the other night, the most fair weather fanbase in league history.
Hard to be a canuck fan right now. I’m ashamed of how Bruce was handled. I’m glad my fellow fans in attendance let him know how much we loved him.
Great job fans!
If Bruce desires, he can still coach. Someone will offer him a job.
I love him too!
Vancouver needs to change upper management immediately! It’s the only way man.
Couldn’t agree more. Major props to the fans!
The way he was talking after the game, it felt like he loves the game enough to want a shot at coaching again. If that’s the case, I don’t see how someone doesn’t pick him up.
The problem is that Aqua has made it clear that whoever the next GM will be it will still be the same old retool not rebuild mantra since Benning. Gillis was even fired after 2012 because he mentioned how a full tear down rebuild was necessary to fix the team with Kesler wanting out and the Sedins getting older.
THe team needs to be sold. Now I feel how Ottawa fans feel after Melnyk. I guess we're the next laughing stock of the NHL ;(
Lol he’s done.
@@lannon4prez - No chance. He'll be hired before the Summer.
It's the owner. We should have known after Linden
I’m a life long Die Hard Oilers fan and know how we need every win we can get but I was still hoping he would get one last win.
Likewise. The way he's been treated took the shine off the Oilers' much needed win. I'm glad we got the 2 points, but I just wasn't too pumped about it. What a disgrace.
The Boudreau situation is terrible. I was too young to really remember the Keenan years, but I have to feel this is somewhat similar although maybe a little less rage inducing than stripping Linden of the C and trading him after acquiring Messier.
However, I think it's harder to stomach as a Canucks fan because almost everyone following the team as fans or neutrals realizes the true culprit of this mess is Aqualini, the owner. He fired Gillis for proposing a rebuild. He hired Benning who wanted to retool, not rebuild, fired Linden from President role for wanting a rebuild. Then fired benning for being crap and now hired Rutherford and Allvin to again retool, not rebuild.
With the core of Petey, Bo, Hughes and Demko this team could have been something in a few years with moving pieces like Miller and Boeser to shore up the defense and maybe get a few blue chip prospects, but instead we're trading Bo for "young NHL C". It's like purgatory. it never ends.
I'm sorry but how do you just trade Miller? Do you think other teams are stupid? The only way you trade Miller is throwing in something else significant like a high pick or Kuzmenko. Other GMs can read headlines too and I'm sure there aren't many who want to give the Canucks a break.
@Floyd Jackson I think he was meaning trade him instead of giving him that contract extension. Talking about a past mistake.
This is the retool that never ends
Yes it goes on and on my friends
Jim Benning started retooling it not knowing what it was
And they'll continue retooling it forever just because...
@@floydjackson1961 trade Miller before the extension. Now we're stuck with him. Miller before the extension would have been a 2.75 mil (50% retained) top line C/W for a contender. That should have been at least a 1st, 2nd and a blue chip/A+ prospect, maybe even a 3rd/4th line roster player thrown in.
Now he's too expensive to move.
The other huge failure was the OEl trade. We were so close to having 12 million off the books at once in those three contracts but instead we moved them and a 1st (WJC golden medal winner Dylan Guenther) for OEL and Garland. I love Garland, but that trade was absolutely terrible.
Those two moves have screwed this team for years.
@@moofey thank you for making me laugh in my Canucks depression
What Bruce brought to the Canucks was hope and a identity he deserves better
Canucks owners and management can bite me. Thank you Bruce. YOU are a class act and deserved better.
the fan base in intelligent enough to know where the problem is coming from.
We will always love you here in Minnesota Bruce!!!
The fans know this man meant everything to the team. The fans loved him, the players loved him, the arena staff loved him. Management, threw him under the bus like he was nothing. Take care Bruce, good luck wherever you end up.
I also hope that any fans in the next home game chant Bruce There It Is. after that, scalp your tickets, don't buy any, whatever. It was tough watching them lose but was right up there with the emotions of the Twins announcing their retirements
Vancouver Canucks management = NO CLASS.
This management team came in so heralded. They have been nothing but a tire fire. It's them that needed to be fired... along with our owner.
The rot starts with frankie.
Great coach! Loved him in MN. No worries Brucey , you are loved
I loved him in Minnesota. So respected. Just wish him the best!
Love BB. I have one of the 24/7 DVDs--the Pens vs the Caps and BB's cursing was epic! I wish him the best
Thank you for the great video. Saw the game at a bar no volume. Look forward to seeing Bruce back in the NHL soon. Vancouver management is going to have a hard time being taken seriously by other teams with doing trades.
As a Canucks fan since 82'.. I've never been so embarrassed by the team's management..
Brutal.. Classless.. Rudderless..
I was pretty embarrassed when they tried to dick Bure over with a below market contract in Canadian funds. You don't treat your stars like that. but sadly, we have always had horrid ownership once Arthur Griffiths took over for his father.
The whole situation was so sad. Especially the last two interviews Bruce he knew his time in Vancouver was up. For a team that had a horrible opening stretch, they’ve turned it around a little bit. Are they going to be in the playoffs? No, but they did a better job and it’s not on Bruce at all
Bruce has always been a coach that seemingly brings teams to their best. He like every coach has had some off moments but the fact of what he has done throughout his career and last season especially just to get fired for tocchet says how much the Canucks upper management cares about the team at this point. They DONT!
Mad respect for the Canuck fans.
Did you have mad respect for canuck fan rioting when the lost in the final round?
Vancouver fans showed a lot of class to one of the greats
Beautiful. Pure class.
I remember when Pat Quinn was fired in favour of the guys who beat us in 1994 and I was furious. The late 90s were a dark time when there were rumours of the team moving to Seattle. This isn’t quite at that level, but because of social media, it’s amplified. I felt after 94, we were on the way down already but if we made a few smart moves, we could have been back there legitimately. If we’d found a way to get Mogilny without surrendering Peca. And kept Ronning, not pissed off Gretzky and avoided Messier. We might have needed to move on in goal anyway, but we weren’t that far away. Instead, we pissed of Bure, traded away most of the team and everything went to hell. This isn’t that, but it’s close. Everyone knows Bruce wasn’t the problem. But ownership refuses to let management do the job. They could have hired Smyl instead of Rutherford and Allvin. Steamer gets it. He’s been here since before I was born. Give him the reigns. He has earned it.
Shittiest managment ever in all of pro sports! Thank you, Bruce! You are one of the best coaches in the history of the NHL, never forget that.
Bruce is pure class and coming out of the dumpster fire that is the Vancouver cans, he is shining bright while the cans management sits in the coldest shade by its fans.
Excellent video and summary!
Thank you very much!
Good on ya, Vancouver.
Video well done! Long time Canuck fan since the 70's and big time Bruce fan. Much respect to him!
Good luck Bruce
Hockey people love ya and wish you all the best moving forward.
Bruce is a class act. Glad we had him in Minny for a short time. Best of everything to him and his family. Tapping the stick for sure!
I respect Bruce great person.
I will NOT Attend anymore Cantuck"s game"s...Nor,will i Watch any...
I'm there with you.
@@armandoortiz9114 If they Gave me a Free Season Ticket,i still would"nt Go!..Just a Rotten Deal!..Start Firing in the Front office!...
Loved him in Anaheim, still miss him a bit. I really wish he was able to win a cup here. He deserves better, unfortunately at the end of the day ur given ur hand. IMO he has handled it with great class and respect. Hope he gets another shot to win as a coach and hopefully win a cup.
As an Oilers fan who has always struggled liking the Nucks due to smaller group of Nuck fans. I get we both have shitty people among our fan bases.
I gained so much respect to them as a whole from this.
I also understand the pain they must be feeling right now too. I will definitely try to limit my dislike to the few on both sides that make all of us look bad lol.
yea, 50 years of crap. It all started losing the lottery with Buffalo and getting Dale talon instead of Gilbert perrault.
It won’t make a difference changing coaches. You have to make right trades. Starting with D and goalie. The end
The goalie is good, he just started the season injured and ended up in quick sand until he got injured again. 2 months of spencer Martin as your number 1 will kill any team.
IMO Bruce will probably get a General manager/scouting chief type role just because he understand how to buckle down and forge on
90% of the time a team underachieves not because of the Coach but because Management failed to put a good team together. The Coach is always the first to go but your time is coming Patrik Allvin.
first time in a while i respect fans. glad to see them not throwing bruce under the bus like the canucks management
Upper management is the real issue.
Not the coach or players!
Boudreau has a lot more class then me. The way they where fucking around with him for a bit not cool. I would have been out the door weeks ago and not have anything good too say on the way out.
I've never seen such a situation like this in any sport I've watched, not just the NHL. I am ashamed to be a fan of this team and I'm trying to detach myself from supporting this club for the first time in 20+ years.
If I was part of a trade being sent to vancouver,I would refuse to go!
I haven’t watched a game since the start of the season do to how bad it’s been getting for the Canucks but Bruce and Kuzmanko deserve better
The Toronto organisation situation with Dubas was similar in that they had a gm who knew that they were brining in someone else while he was working there and so did the public. However as much as some other Leafs fans act like Lou was fired he wasn't. He knew from the beginning that the point was for him to work with the two potential candidates so they could make a decision and that he would work for a while with them and be free to leave at will. He wasn't fired. Everyone knowing you are being fired and replaced before it happens is a classless move. Great job fans for supporting Bruce to the end.
Bruce. PLEASE come to St Louis! Help us out of this hole!
[RESPECT!]
It's not just the coaching staff being disrespected. The players also carried this. Not anything an organization should fumble mid season like this. Them doing this sped up tanking the season. Like Rutherford referred to in his press conference when asked, saying they were already tanking. Tickets should be half price the rest of the year.
He was loved during his time in MN as well.
The Aqualini is the main curse!!!
Why the Public Humiliation for the Man doing his job.
I've said it before and I'll say it again "somewhere in upper management , someone is NOT doing their job".
How long will Coach Tocchet last ??
Bruce is literally one of the best coaches ever
the dumpsteriest of fires. legorocks must be miserable.
Love you Bruce
Major kudos to the Vancouver fanbase for trying to salvage any sort of good out of what was otherwise a terrible and downright insulting series of decisions by Canucks management.
He'll coach his next team to the Cup final. Hockey is 'wild' like that.
the reasons the fans are with him. is a simple reason. can a blame a man for trying his hardest and failing? can you look him in the eye and say you are bad even though he is giving it his all. Only an ass would do that to him. Respect to the man. even the players are like how can we fault him. To hate a person because they are trying and failing shows you have no soul.
it'll be like that song "there goes my hero , watch him as he goes" .
Boudreau was the first coach for the then (2001) new AHL franchise Manchester (NH) Monarchs. The team is now gone but memories remain. Good luck Bruce.
Vancouver fans have class. Too bad management is disgusting the way they handled this. If I owned this team Rutherford and the GM would be gone.
Was at the game. Was 75% Oilers fans. But mad respect all around for Bruce.
I was watching it too, I could hear the chants: let's go Oilers!! Over the TV broadcast, heh
Those were Canucks fans cheering for the Canucks to win the draft lottery.
Time to retool and rebuild the management. Happy to see the fans support for Bruce!
Those old school jerseys are way better than the other ones
This situation is a disgusting stain the Vancouver management won’t soon get rid of.
Jim Rutherford is not what I though he was. He seems like a fool to me know!
Bruce deserved a million X better than that very public and drawn out process. It is a business but OH MY GOD. How inexcusably disrespectful the whole past month has been to one of the most respected coaches of the last 20 years... I really hope the NHL and NHLPA investigate the Canucks. No franchise in my memory has hung a coach like this, let alone a coach with Bruce's Resume
We'll gladly take him back in Washington if Laviolette doesn't get a contract renewal.
80% management, 20% players...
One may say he got the hockey shaft.
Management sit with their heads hung "low in shame" as they play the blame game.
I would love to see him in Ottawa
As a Duck’s fan I loved Bruce during his time there
I’ve been a Canucks fan since I was born or as long as I can remember, I’ve been a supporter through everything but I don’t know how much more I can. I really think I’m just going to stop paying attention until they can clean their act up, it’s honestly embarrassing. It’s hard to find anything to be proud of as a fan.
I'm in the same boat. We need a change in ownership, I can't stand the aquillinis
Hey Seattle’s close by might as well go cheer for them
@@DavidWsTrainVideos at least Seattle is in a playoff position as of right now.
@@aaronlusanko8779 not only that, but they have a shot to win the Pacific division
What a class act those Jackalopes are in the Canucks front office
They did him dirty
Nothing wrong with Bruce Boudreau!
Love Bruce. Sad. Wish he stayed as coach
Could be considered similar to Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnetts last Celtics games, several minutes of lets go Celtics chants, even though Cs were down and not coming back, crowd was nuts through to the buzzer.
Why would Tocchet, or anyone, want to go coach there after how the ownership has acted?
Fantastic respect shown by Canucks fans.
Wellbdone!
Because Tocchet isn’t going to get hired anywhere else.
Bruce come and help Keefe!!! Keefe is a great coach but having Bruce helping would be awesome!
Well I've been around hockey and played hockey all my life and I'm not young. the way I see it that coach Boudreau is as good as they come you are only as good as your team on the ice
Bruce isnt the problem
The club that have allowed this long slow torture of the coach is simply disgusting and nobody deserves to be treated like that ever.
thanks Van...Boudreau is one of rare good guys in pro sports mgemnt...he'll latch on again.
This situation has me finally giving up on this ownership and I may start cheering for the Kraken now. And I’ve been cheering for the Canucks since 1982.
BRUCE! BRUCE! BRUCE!
So great to see. Good job Vancouver. I can't stand Tochett, but I would hate to see any animosity shown towards him (well, maybe I wouldn't mind a little). I trust that Canuck fans have more class than to do something like that. Management might look into getting players rather than changing coaches.
And the “team store” was selling that on t-shirts at least up until friday
The management should have fired themselves, realistically
We love you Brucie!!!!! Aquillini needs to sell the team and Rutherford needs to retire, both have been unmitigated disasters. Aquillini is the worst owner in the league!
im not crying, its just raining
Wouldn't mind seeing Bruce replace MacTavish in St. Louis.
Reminds of what Hatold Ballard did to Roger Neilson back in the day.
Jim Rutherford: stunk as a goalie, stinks as a GM.
Rutherford used to be a well respected GM, I wouldn’t say so much with how he handled this whole situation.
I'm tempted to get tickets for our next home game, and make sure we chant "Bruce there it is" in front of the new coach.
Bruce wouldn't like that. He's too good a person to wish that on tocchet.
I think the announcement was supposed to be the day Gino passed, and they delayed out of respect. That is why everyone knew already.
Just want to say thanks to the fans at that game for showing some nice support for Bruce in what everyone knew was his last game. It was heartwarming.
Management/ownership needs to be on notice. Canucks fans deserve better than this. They will support the team through thick and thin (bitching and moaning all the way). But there is no support for the kind of treatment of people that's been exhibited by this organization.
Bruce is classic
Just gotta say, i love those Canucks jerseys. Why couldn't they have just kept those ones? Why do we change good things, that are already good enough?
