These are getting consistently better and more informative as you create more. All these "gotchas" are extremely valuable: knowing that a particular route will result in a dead-end of sorts could save so much time and frustration.

I think you're the best how-to-freecad channel, very good how-tos.. like 100% pure information. Thanks.

Great video. As a recent adopter of FC, I have been baffled by the quirks of the thickness modifier and assumed it was me doing something wrong. Nice to know I am not alone. Keep up the good work, nicely paced informative tutorials. Thanks

Hello, I have the same version in FreeCAD as you, but the Thickness icon does not appear. What could it be due to?

Andrew, some of the geometries that fail using positve thickness sometimes work if you put the negative thickness and vice versa.

This is a good video as usual! I remember back in earlier releases how buggy it was. It has come a long way but needs further refinement. Good to show newer users what to think about if you want to apply thickness later on. Thanks!

    Hi Andrew
I watched all 12 minutes and it is very interesting.
A problem to a few. Some of us find it very hard to follow the very small white pointer due to our eye sight. Could you help us. Could you make the pointer bigger and red. Red help us a lot.
    Thanks you.

Good morning Pieter, thankyou for watching my videos 😀 I've increased the size in this video of the cursor to 'extra large'...I've tried looking for a large red background cursor but cant find one that does both...I'll have another look, but I cant make any promises 😅

@@AndrewCAD What capture software are you using?.. I've seen plenty tutorial videos where the pointer has a yellow circle background, I think that is an option in the capture software itself. (Note to self: After quick research; Not necessarily true - stop assuming things.. )
Edit 1: If you're using Windows you can create or download a cursor file with a yellow halo and then change your cursor in your mouse settings to the new one. Whenever you're recording a tutorial, just change your pointer and once you're done, just switch back.
Edit 2: Using your fav search engine, search for "cursor highlighter" - that'll give you more. :D

@@jonneneva4372 Good afternoon! I'm using OBS studio to record my videos, which I believe I've found a plugin which should be able to highlight my cursor making it more visable. I've tried downloading a cursor but I couldn't find one where I could manipulate the size while also having a 'halo' around it...I then tried to create one, but didnt get very far with that either...so then I just resorted to blowing the cursor up to max and that's where I'm at 😅 I'll dive into the OBS plugin and see if that gives me anything! Cheers for researching though, it's much appreciated 😀

    Error no. 1 6:49
I designed it in a way that worked fine. I used three Sketches. One for Inlet Pipe. Drew a Circle, then I Pad it. Then I used the top Face of this object as the Plane for other two Sketches with similar Circle drawing, for Outlet Pipes. I tilted both the Sketches on opposite sides about 25 degrees (one 25 & the other - 25) then I Pad them each. Fused them via Boolean Tool, then applied Thickness Tool. It came out well. There were no errors.

@Andrew CAD Hi Andrew, very important video you have done, but this points you should refer also to the bug-tracker of the FreeCAD developer. It is nice that you tell us some workarounds here, but this can't be a long term solution to learn how to work around a bug. So yes, for now it is OK, but please report this bugs so that they hopefully will be fixed in the next coming releases. Thank you for your efforts and great informations.
Btw. you can check the 0.20 version and/or the "Realthunder" version of FreeCad and check out if there are those bugs are fixed or not and add to your video at the end.

whats weird is that i cant get thickness to work on a padded square with a square cutout on one side of the sketch. imagine a c shaped pad. edit: intersection mode helped.

Change the order of operations. Thickness first, followed by cutout.

Far out man, FreeCAD is just not on the level of Inventor & OnShape for shelling or some slightly more complicated sheet metal pressings. Tried for a while with both the sheet metal workbench / form tool, part design and then traditional part booleans, cried, then moved over to onShape and thing worked immediately.
