    Corlys kind of explains it in episode 1 but it’s not just that Rhaenys was older she was the only child of the old king’s first son. Viserys and Daemon are the children of the old kings second son. It would be like if Robb had a daughter and they skipped over her to give it to Bran’s sons

    "Promise me, Ned. Promise me." That callback always gets me. Also, everything Rhaegar did was driven by his certainty that Winter was well on its way, that the prophecy was for both Ice and Fire, and that the PWWP needed to be "manifested" into the world. And of course there is the theory that part of Aerys' madness was him going around the bend because of the knowledge of the second Long Night and that's why he was screaming "Burn them all!"

    Technically anything done without the King’s approval can be considered treason. That’s part of what makes monarchies so arbitrary. Everything ultimately depends on the ruler’s perception and decisions. For example, Daemon trips a guy’s horse in the tournament. If the king let’s it slide, no one can say anything-it essentially becomes fair play, at least it is for the king’s younger brother. Corlys and Daemon decide to take on the Crabfeeder on their own and it’s only treason as far as the King perceives it. If he wants to declare them enemies of the realm then they are, and if he wants to ignore it they’re simply malcontents.

    Cup Bearers back in the day were some of the most trusted to the King. This was a great position for her to be in because she was at every small council meeting and got to see how everything was handled. She was a part of all of the most important meetings. Raynera got to learn how politics worked. As she got older her father could teach her more but here getting to be apart of small council meetings and be involved in the background was a HUGE advantage to her for her future.

    • @ShittyShittyGameGang
      @ShittyShittyGameGang 21 день назад

      I do agree that it's an honored position and makes sense for grooming a future ruler (just like Jon being the steward to Commander Mormont) but it still belittles them in the eyes of the counsel, especially her, because they don't take her seriously to begin with and if she's not openly considered in the conversation it's even worse.

    Dreamfyre, Silverwing, the Cannibal and Quicksilver (which is dead now) are old dragons at this time with non-valyrian names. The valyrian names are said to be ancient deity names from the Feud of Valyria. Other younger dragons with non-valyrian names are Seasmoke, Sunfyre, Sheepstealer, Moondancer, Grey Ghost, Stormcloud and Morning. From 28 known dragons in HoTD and GoT, 13 have Valyrian names and 12 non valyrian names. 3 are a mix-made up (Drogon, Viserion and Rhaegal).

    I believe that scene of Targaryen kings passing on the Conqueror’s dream to the heir is a coming plot point in the ASOIAF books. It was heavily hinted at in the World of Ice & Fire encyclopedia when published years ago, and Martin’s involvement in the show reemphasizes this. My favorite part of the scene is definitely Daenerys’ Breaker of Chains theme playing in the background.

  • @janeathome6643
    @janeathome6643 21 день назад +10

    You could also say a lot of the swords around the throne were perhaps removed over the years, due to its injurious nature. Certainly, after Robert took over, all the Valyrian history and myths carved into the columns was removed, as were the giant sculptures of the Targaryen kings on the upper portions of the columns. This is the Golden Age; in GOT, three civil wars have taken a toll on Westeros and King's Landing.
    For most of human history, the number one killer of women was childbirth. If the child was stuck, it had to be cut out; if it was a "difficult" birth or long labor, the chances of infection and sepsis was great; babies kept too long stuck in the birth canal are more likely to aspirate fluid and suffocate (drown) as a result, which is what I believe is what happened to baby Baelon. They probably should have performed the C-section earlier. All three of the principle characters in GOT were born via C-section, killing their mothers. And Tywin hated Tyrion his entire life.

He's had a very long show biz career. From the Mesozoic era as just a small egg, to escaping the horrors of the ice age, then getting bit by that radioactive bat which caused him to grow wings, and the losing those wings in a freak accident, to having the number one children's' show in America. A true rags to riches story. Has he retired form acting btw? I haven't' seem him in anything for decades.

    Viserys and Daemon's father's name was Prince Baelon. Baby was named after him.
    The Targaryens had quite a few prophecies regarding the Long Night and the Prince that was Promised. This is one of them.
    Another one mentioned in the books is the one King Jaehaerys II received from a wood's witch. King Jaehaerys II was the Mad King's father. It goes "from the line of Aerys and Rhaella will come the Prince that was Promised."
    Aerys was the Mad King and Rhaella Targaryen was his sister-wife and the mother of Rhaegar, Viserys and Daenerys (and the grandmother of Jon).
    King Jaehaerys II forced his children Aerys and Rhaella to marry each other because of this prophecy despite the fact they didn't like each other.
    Regardless, the Prince that was Promised did come from their line. However, whether it's Daenerys or Jon remains a question.
    Also, the model in the intro is Old Valyria, like you said, but the cogs and blood is the bloodline of the Targaryen dynasty going from Aegon the Conqueror and his sister-wives to Rhaenyra.

    think carefully... it is not lost because of Raegar, It is likely that he had no idea, nor did his father. I do not want to give spoilers but from what we know so far about HOD it seems that the reason is here, between chapter 8 and 9 unless the second season changes a lot.. The Targaryens knew of the prophecy, and it most likely continued to be handed down as we believe this is what Rhagar was trying to fulfil. However, there's no confirmation it has been lost. If it's only by word of mouth, potentially yes, but it could be in some writings somewhere. Until GRRM writes the last two books we won't know for sure that it won't pop up somehow. Also, there is Bran/3 eyes crow. Just because it wasn't fully realised in the show (despite Dumb and Dumber's feeble attempts to insert the prophecy In a couple of scenes) doesn't mean it may not return in some way.

    • @Fallen616
      @Fallen616 20 дней назад

      It probably was lost due to the Dance of Dragons and you’re right, we don’t know till Martin publishes the last two books. But there’s context clues within the series that suggest *likely* that the prophecy was lost and only relearned recently. The ASOIAF books detail that Rhaegar was a scholarly boy till he read something (probably the Targaryen prophecy) in a book & immediately changed afterwards to model a knight in hopes of completing the prophecy. But eventually he thought the Dream referenced his children (Aegon). But I agree that the Conqueror’s Dream is definitely show up in the closing books, it sounds exactly like it came from George RR Martin.

    • @CJ77777
      @CJ77777 20 дней назад +1

      @Fallen616 Exactly. So if it was 'lost' it would be pre-Rhaegars death and not because of his death like one of the boys said. Or it was passed on to Rhaegar late, but I also think the books lead you to him learning it from books/scrolls, but that would also mean that one of the Targaryen's past wrote it down.

      I dont really get this logic; a prequel is a pre-sequel, which is a sequel set chronologically before the first movie or series. A sequel is designed to come after, and a pre-sequel is designed to fill in the gaps and give backstory to events as a second movie.
      Generally prequels assume a basic knowledge of the world that you attain from the first installment, and they dont focus on explaining things that the first movie already explained. A lot of prequels will even ruin suspenseful moments or reveals in the first installment because they give more context to the events and foreshadow them more obviously.
      House of the Dragon is a bit of an exception in that there isnt that much overlap or spoiler, but I would never recommend starting with a prequel.

    I have never been so let down by the algorythm. 3 days ago?? wtf?
    @Blake
    I also totally forgot about Otto mate, when I first saw his face again i was like damn this tw@t lol
    When Daemon was picking at Otto and he stands up I wonder what was he planning to do? Deamon would rip him to pieces and everyone in that room knew that so what was his plan exactly? :D
    Also, I agree with that birth scene it was really gruesome and that actress held nothing back, she absolutely killed that scene.
    I, as well as many I think arrived to this show with a sour taste in my mouth. I have been scarred by GoT and was really going into this with the bad attitude. By the end of the first episode I was like allright, that was actually pretty good. By the end of the second I was really excited. By the time we've reached the 5th I was fully on board, counting back the days for the next episode. This show is really good, written very well, it has great characters, great dialogues and really good performances. The cast is loaded with an enormous acting talent and they are absolutely killing it. I think Viserys ( especially in later episodes ) and Daemon is a huge standout, Otto is great, and I really liked the girls especially Alicent. That actress did a phenomenal job with a whole lot of really subtle gestures I was surprised how good she was.
    In overall I think it is a really strong start for a show thats trying to pacify the fanbase thats frothing from the mouth lol
    I've read some comments on a vid somewhere a few weeks ago some people were thrashing Milly Alcock the actress who plays Rhaenyra Targaryen for being ugly. I found that weird, I think Milly is a really pretty young lady nobody in their right mind would call her ugly. I thought that was really weird.
    Can't wait to see some ratings becasue it's gonna mop the floor with the newest Disney trash that they have the audacity to call Star Wars.

    The king is a good man, but a bad king. He is weak and he is cowardly. He avoids any conflict. You can't do that as a king. The only thing that can be blamed on the king at the birth of his son is that he was too cowardly to tell his wife what is going to happen. Again, he didn't want any conflict.
    The king postpones any conflict. Demon only gets a slap on the wrist for murdering through the streets. The next time he would be punished. Which is not to say that Demon has acted inherently wrong. He only did it without the king's orders. Because the king does not give orders as quickly as would be necessary. The king also does nothing against his enemies. Birth takes precedence.
    The Iron Throne punishes comfortable kings. Those who make themselves too comfortable on the throne will be punished. Vasyris is cut from the throne and his wounds do not heal.
    Btw. You may also misjudge Demon. You have not seen Demon mourn or celebrate the death of his nephew. He has referred to him as heir to the throne for a day. But how Hightower conveyed this to the king is, of course, told in the way he needs it.

    • @gailf1617
      @gailf1617 19 дней назад

      Daemon didn't necessarily insult his dead nephew. But the fact that he was partying with his Gold Cloaks and others just a few days after the deaths of that nephew and Queen Aemma is extremely rude and tactless.

    I guess I mostly want to ask Blake, but do you think they should transition to the actual Iron Throne as GRRM pictured? They've moved in that direction and you have to have seen the picture of the Iron Throne as GRRM described it. I think they should. As an audience we can all fake it pretend it was that was all along. I want to see the real Iron Throne.

    Alicent Hightower is a great choice. The Hightowers are an ancient family (and until recently, the wealthiest), control Oldtown (the former capital and still the center of trade) and the Citadel (the Faith and seat of learning), are descended from the First Men and rumored to have access to certain ancient magic due to the geographical location of their seat of power (like the Starks). Marrying a Hightower checks a lot of big boxes. It's one type of power vs. another. Alicent is 17, a bit older than Rhaenyra. The Velaryons are nouveau riche arrivistes who got a leg up from the Targs, and Corliss really created all their wealth from being a very successful pirate in his own right. House Velaryon is only a great house because of the favor and support shown to them by their fellow Valyrians, the Targaryens, following Aegon's conquest. Without Targaryen dragons for "protection", they would not have come so far, so quickly.

    It’s stupid people got on y’all for your comments. Realistically you’d choose your wife instead of baby because you can try again but if women die during child birth they don’t come back. Back then you didn’t have the technology to do this in this time. I’m glad yall are compassionate to women esp these days when men in power are taking rights away from us.
