• Ubuntu 17.10 Linux OS ...

Yes, I like KDE but is very difficult to operate. Think I'll go back to Peppermint & stop wasting time, which at 75, I don't have!!!
I also had the slow boot-up on my OpenSuse Leap 42.1 - nice review man.
hey blondie !!
+1 for staying with opensuse for 1 month.
i think after this amount of time with SUSE (i Know id be starting the computer with both eyes shut, hoping it was still working),
anything and everything will seem twice as easy.
i understand your recent G+ post now - 1 month of opensuse and your ready for the world....
keep em coming Mr Reissig, keep em coming
I've been using openSUSE Leap (GNOME 3)for 5 months now. It works great. No problems with it at all.
Open Terminal, go into Sudo and then type Yast. You will be amazed at what you see.
As always, I enjoy your vids! I am currently using OpenSuse leap on my Dell laptop and love it. I am not a huge fan of KDE anymore but I need to use the proprietary graphics driver to play steam games. Fedora 24 and Solus lets me use steam with the free driver but can't get my gamepad to work in them. OpenSuse configures it the second I plug it in. I have been a Suse user way back when they use to include the codecs for video play etc. (Had to buy the boxed set since ISO weren't available back then) I also use a bluetooth mouse and openSuse automatically connects to it. Had to configure it first but with any reboot it starts up. Start up time is a little slow but I normally just leave my laptop running so it isn't a problem for me. I am probably going to stay with leap for now since everything that I need is working.
I just turn off wicked and use NetworkManager when I run OpenSuse. Wicked is good if you need a ton of features, but for 99.9% of people, NM is fine. NM allows for DHCP, partial DHCP or static addresses, configuration of DNS servers and basic proxy settings and that's really all I need (and all most people need).
I like Tumbleweed, but I require nvidia drivers because I use OpenCL apps and it's a pain in the butt to keep everything up-to-date, having to rebuild nvidia modules with every kernel update, which sometimes requires patching the kernel, too, so it's just not worth it for me. DKMS is available, but it tends to screw up and when it breaks, you really have a mess to try to fix. Arch is my home, it's where I feel comfortable. I can't even recall the last time I had to go looking outside the Arch ecosystem (repos/AUR) for software, it's got everything I need AND everything I want, plus it's blazing fast.
I agree with you about KDE and especially Dolphin, it's fantastic. If a person loves to configure their desktop to their own personal desires, KDE is THE best for that. Most of the apps I use are GTK based, so I tend to stick with cinnamon or gnome (although Deepin could be in my future, if they fix a few things). OpenSuse probably has the best KDE setup, imo.
Thanks for posting. I was wondering about this.
I have tried both Tumbleweed and Leap KDEs, I found the former is actually faster than the latter, without any issues of stability. The concise interface is the most favorite part of the OS, along with everything you need for your hardware. Regardless how old it is, you don't have to worry about finding the driver. It is said to be problematic with NVIDIA cards, but I don't have the problem with an AMD card. My only problem is I was unable to install the official drivers for my Brother HL2270DW printer but turn to a lower version of HL2170W.
For the rookies, this is not a good choice in that you have to know how to configure.
9:23 also you could type F4 and the terminal is shown in the Dolphin window, nicely integrated with the latter.
KMail is not that nightmare as you said in the video.
KMail->Tools->Account Wizard. Now a new window called Account Assistant will open and the other operations are similar to the other e-mail managers.
Some other beautiful functions you didn't mention:
-Krunner, which is the KDE version of Spotlight, very useful to find files and/or applications
-Kate, awesome advanced text editor, with tons of available plugins
-Amarok
-KWallet, (KDE version of keychain keychain) to store your passwords
Moreover, there is the possibility to automatically set the same set of shortcuts for all the KDE applications...pretty smart thing to me.
For the rest, nice video man!
+Pietro D'Antuono the account wizard was the source of my frustration ; it failed to configure my accounts properly everytime I tried.
As I said in the video, KDE has plenty of applications I enjoy, and I highlighted just a few of them.
Nice review. I have similar problems with the monitor situation. Love kde its a slick looking environment very modern. I have been using the kde neon I gotta say they did a nice job. They don't put much on it but I would rather add only what I want. Had to add the nividia driver, libre office etc.. works real well so far. I have not had much luck with kde on this old ibm thinkpad but with neon it runs real smooth. I want to try open suse kde I have always liked there distros.
tanx for the video i am beginner to linux destro currently i am using
ubuntu not satisfied with it i want to switch to other distro. i narrow
down to opensuse and arch. i am student i do lot of code mostly python
and java. if i choose any one of this destro will it support ides or
text editor. is it true that opensuse has more support communities
compare to arch linux or should i stay with ubuntu.
I'd like to see a review of Bodhi and GeckoLinux, also, what happened to Window Maker?
Before going to your journey to the next desktop environment, please do one or two long tutorials describing the repos you had to activate in OpenSuse, and all the packages you needed to download to get the system the way you like, including all the media codecs.
Already done! here is a link to the video: ruclips.net/video/5spmdkyhxjk/видео.html
Thank you.
The next distro, isn't the one you talked about on Linux & WhatNot ?
As others mentioned, try KDE Neon. Joe Collins has uploaded a video about KDE Neon this week and mentioned that he is very impressed with it. I am also not a great fan of KDE. Even on my 6GB RAM Desktop, I feel it is sluggish.
Sabayon KDE is another option and it is a rolling release distro based on gentoo.
Thanks,
Balaji.
Neon was a disaster on my system. So bad I couldn't keep the desktop from freezing long enough to produce a video.
Please try Sabayon KDE and see how it works for you.
Great video ..... thanx
can you make a review about gecko linux?
its a spin based on open suse but with aditional repos and all media codecs already installed, and you can get leap or tumble weed based.

Why is it always the network managers?
I got a similar problem with my Debian+Gnome3 notebook, where the network manager just hangs for a while on bootup.
Thanks!
I have tried KDE a couple of times in the past but I was always turned off by stability issues and the fact that it is a resource hog. Did these issues come up with OpenSUSE KDE? Thanks.
what about solydk ? you didnt mention that one ... what happened?
I currently use Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon. I wish to know that if to choose from Fedora & OpenSuse, which is easy to install and use?
I'm not a techie or power user.
I switched to mint because I didn't like gnome on Ubuntu 18.04
Do these allow different DEs during installation & third party apps like easytag, clipgrab, Clementine etc?
Have you tried WMail as long as all your accounts are gmail it's a godsend A.J
have you tried nurunner its a fork of netrunner rolling and netrunner rolling is based on manjaro
Yes. Performance was so bad I couldn't do a video on it. Constant crashes.
Do you get an error message when you update? something about the installation medium?
Have you tried Linux Mint KDE?
how does windows emulators run on opensuse?
Hi AJ, I have an idea on how you can get better boot up times is if you use BUM or Boot Up Manager..
What should I go for KDE or GNOME?
Gnome imo, I've tried to like the KDE install, it's very pretty. Gnome on Tumbleweed is the way though - lots of silly stuff on the KDE version that doesn't quite work properly. defaulting to vpn insisting on root passwors every login for a prime example.1
Anyone knows if the monitor managing bug is considered urgent and about to be fixed soon?
Supposedly, Plasma 5.8 fixes the multi-monitor bugs.
Gentoo
Did you try this page for codecs?
